The prayer

Written prayer

Heavenly father, you see how blinded by grief these women were. They came to embalm the body of their master and properly prepare him for death. What he had told them about his death and resurrection never came to mind. All they knew was that their Lord was dead. The waves of sorrow must have washed the remembrance of his assurances out of their minds. Truth that is only half understood, however plainly spoken, is always forgotten when the time of fulfillment arrives. If they had understood the truth their mourning would have turned into dancing and their sorrow would have turned into rejoicing. But they had never experienced anything like they experienced with Jesus. It was all new to them. He was the son of God, he did miracles, he spoke of an eternal home in heaven and that he would die but then be risen to eternal life. They had never heard, saw, or experienced anything so wonderful before. It is no wonder they were overcome with grief and saw their hope become despair. Father, your word is truth. Your promises are absolute and you are able to accomplish what you have said. Strengthen my faith to believe and trust in you. Help me stay the course that leads to home. Help me never to judge your word by my circumstances. I look to my resurrected living Lord to lift me up. In Jesus name, amen.
