Today’s prayer
Written prayerFather, I heard it said once that you love a hilarious giver. That thought brought to mind a picture of Santa Claus laughing as he passed out toys to the children. I know there is no Santa Claus but he is so jolly in his giving and it brings him so much joy. I think that is how you would like me to be since what I have to give is much greater than anything a fictional character can give. I think we humans are selfish by nature and need to have our hearts expanded with generosity. This world programs us for greed and a me-mine attitude. That is not the kingdom way. You sent your son to show me how to give – how to love – how to humble myself and surrender to your will. Jesus is my example and his life shows me how selfish and childish I can be. Teach me how to be a cheerful giver. Whatever I give will be returned many times over. Giving to the poor is like lending to the Lord and you pay great interest, aside from my accumulated rewards in heaven. Correct my attitude about giving to the Lord and teach me to see what a blessing it is to bless others, no matter how small it is. It’s the intent and attitude of the heart that you're concerned with. My giving is also a reflection of my trust in you to provide. In Jesus name, amen.
