Today’s prayer
Written prayerOh Father, how merciful and understanding you are of our human condition. When I am bound to my sorrow and misery you draw near to comfort me. When I sit in mourning for the loss of loved ones, or lost opportunities, you understand my pain. There have been times when I cried and screamed and pounded the ground in my anger until I became undone emotionally. After releasing my grief and self pity I fell face down upon the ground in humiliation for my shameful response. I asked you to forgive me and repented of my sinful attitude. You never scolded or punished me but drew me into your heart to comfort me with your love. Satan wants to use tragic circumstances against us. He whispers, “see, it’s all God’s fault. He doesn’t love you. If he did he wouldn’t have allowed this to happen.” In those painful moments it’s easy to listen to the lie instead of countering them with worship. Father, Satan hates you and me, and is nothing but a liar. Lord, I don’t want to curse you when I am in a difficult situation; I choose to praise you and recognize your sovereignty. All you allow in my life will be turned into something good for me. Keep me ever mindful of your goodness in severe times of hardship. Remind me that this too shall pass for weeping last for a night but joy comes in the morning. In Jesus name, amen.
