Global Prayer on Jonah 2:9

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

Jonah 2:9 · KJV

Today’s prayer

Written prayer

Father, when I offer thanksgiving to you it is not a sacrifice, it is an honor and a privilege. It is my joy to publicly acknowledge your divine goodness. Jonah was in rebellion to your call upon his life. You wanted him to go to Nineveh but he had such bitterness in his heart because he knew you would save them and he didn’t think you should. Oh, how our human flesh defeats us. His rebellion landed him in the belly of a whale until he cried out for you to save him. He sacrificed his thanksgiving for your mercy and paid the vow he promised you for his deliverance. I think he finally realized that you can and will save whomever you wish and that salvation is not up to us. You are the only one to decide who you will save or not. Lord, let me keep my emotions in check so that I don’t rebel against you. Humble my pride that wants to rise up against your will and to tell you what to do. Even in the midst of my most dire circumstances let me offer up thanksgiving to you. You inhabit the praises of your people so if I want your help all I need to do is thank you for being with me in the midst of my circumstance and praise you. Your presence will bring me peace and deliverance. In Jesus name, amen.
