God's Promise: Sending the Spies 0:00 We don't have to wake up every morning and say, does God still love me, care for me, have his hand on me, is walking with me? No. God has called, spoken, directed,0:12 ordained, and God says, I am giving you this land.0:29 The title of my message is this, avoiding a grasshopper mentality. Avoiding a grasshopper mentality. I0:41 believe that this church family, I believe that this church community, the tabernacle, I believe that we are on the brink.0:53 We are at the gate. We are right at the precipice of crossing into a new season of possessing all that God has for us as a1:05 church family. I'm thankful for the past. I'm thankful for what God has done. Even over these past years, God is good. God has done good things. There's good fruit that we can celebrate.1:17 But I don't believe that we have yet stepped into the fullness of the capacity, the invitation that God is giving us as a church1:29 family to multiply and to possess the land that God has for us. But I believe that is our assignment in 20 26. I believe that 20 26 is our year1:41 to cross over and possess the land of our inheritance. Exactly the verses that you can clap for that. Exactly the verses. More1:53 of you can clap for that. There we go. Very good. Coffee, anyone? You you look like you need it because I need it. Okay. I2:05 believe we're at a crossing over moment. I genuinely do. And as we cross over, we are going to avoid a grasshopper2:17 mentality. The book of numbers chapter 13 and 14, recounts a pivotal moment in Israel's history. Israel has2:29 heard the word of the Lord, heard the promise of God. They've been called by God, named by God, and brought into a moment of2:40 destiny. And we come to this story in the beginning of chapter 13. And it says to2:52 us, and the Lord spoke to Moses saying, send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving3:04 to the children of Israel, which I am giving to the children of Israel. Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I3:16 might give to the children of Israel.3:21 Yes. No. No. No.3:24 Not that I might give, not that could happen, might happen, potentially would happen. No. The land I am giving have given. Yes. I've given you this3:35 land. I am giving you this land. Send the men in to spy out that land. God said he was giving them the land.3:49 God has a word over your life. God has a word over your life. God has a word over your family. God has a word over this spiritual family.4:02 It's not something that we have to wonder if it's going to be God's will or not. We don't have to wake up every morning and say, let me check the4:14 temperature. Does God still love me, care for me, have his hand on me, is walking with me? No. God has called, spoken, directed, ordained,4:27 and God says, I am giving you this land. Now our feelings come and go. Feelings,4:39 nothing more than the feeling. Pastor Amy, come on back up. Our feelings about the situation, they change regularly.4:52 God's word does not change. So verse 3, Moses sent them from the wilderness according to the command of the Lord. Who did Moses send?5:04 The spies. Who did Moses send? Spies. How many spies were there? 12. 12 spies. Alright. Give me the names of the spies.5:14 I got 2 from them. Joshua.5:16 Caleb. Caleb. Give me the name of the rest of the spies. Somebody give me the name of the rest of the spies. You don't know the name of the rest of the spies.5:34 I wanna be in the 2 spies club. I wanna be in the club that's being talked about 4000 years later5:46 because I stood in faith. I stood in belief. I stood listening to we don't remember the names of those who doubted.5:58 Right. We don't remember the names of those who did not rise in courage, did not rise in faith, did not rise in the grace of God that was offered to them.6:10 They cowered in fear. And the only remembrance of their name is that they're listed in scripture to their detriment.6:22 But then we remember the name of Joshua and Caleb. Those who grabbed a hold the word of the Lord and walked in and brought back a good6:34 report. Somebody say a good report. Somebody say we need more good reports. We need more good reports. So Moses sent them to spy out the land. So this that verse 18,6:45 19, 20, we'll go quickly. Verse 20 it says this, be of good courage. Be of good courage. Why? Because he knew that there would be6:58 the possibility for doubt, for fear. So Moses tells them be of good courage. So they went out and they spied the land from the wilderness7:10 of Zin as far as Rehoboam near the entrance of moth, etcetera etcetera. They were spying out the land for 40 days. Now, they departed and came back7:22 to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation. And they brought back word to them and all the fruit of the land to show them. Then they told them, we went to the land where7:34 you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey. This is the fruit. Nevertheless, the people who dwell in the land are strong. The cities are fortified, large. We saw the descendants7:45 of Anak there. The Amalekites, the Hittites, the Jebusites, all the otherites. Then verse 30, Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, let7:57 us go up at once and take possession for we are well able to overcome it. We are well able to overcome it.8:09 But the men who had gone up with him said, we are not able to go up against the people for they are stronger than we know. I really want you to work with me right now and get in your mind's eye8:21 a picture of what this looked like. They're coming back. Moses is here. The elders are there, and you have these 12 leaders. And8:33 2 are giving 1 report, 10 are giving another report, and the entire crowd begins to shift. I want you to see the group dynamics.8:45 I want you to see what happens through the power of words.8:58 We are not able to go up against these people. They are stronger than we, and they gave the children of Israel a bad report. The land which we have gone9:10 as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants first 32 and 33. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants, the descendants9:22 of Anak, and we were like grasshoppers. Read those next 4 words. Grasshoppers. In our own sight.9:35 And so we were in their sight. We were like grasshoppers in our own sight and so we9:47 were in their sight. Psychologists call this the power of projection. If you're giving off9:59 a vibe, I'm gonna be rejected. Guess what the chances are? If you're giving off the vibe, I'm insecure.10:14 We were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight. But the tabernacle here, we are going to avoid10:27 a grasshopper mentality in the next season. Verse 14. So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried and theFear Spreads: Weeping and Rebellion 10:38 people wept that night. Do you see the group dynamic that's happening here? The negative report comes. We were like grasshoppers in their sight. Everyone said, oh, did you10:50 hear? Oh my goodness. What are we gonna A ripple effect. It just starts to go through the entire crowd. The voice the congregation is lifting up11:02 their voices. Now look what next verse, and all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation says to them, if only we had died in Egypt.11:14 If only we had died in the wilderness. What had this group just seen? What had they just seen God do? Miracle11:26 after miracle getting them out of Egypt. The strongest nation they'd ever seen. Pharaoh's army, plague after plague,11:38 miracle after miracle. God is drumming it into them. I've got you. I've got this. You're my chosen. You're my anointed. I'm gonna get you through. But what was the problem? God got11:50 them out of Egypt, but God had not yet gotten Egypt out of them. Their mindset was still in this mindset of doubt, theory,12:02 doubt, fear, being scared of everything that was coming around against them. We were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and12:14 so we were in their sight. Now go down to verse 4, because I want you to see the next thing that happens after fear. The next thing that12:26 happens after fear, verse 4. So let us select a leader and return to Egypt. After fear comes in, what comes12:38 in? Rebellion. Mob rule. Moses has been leading. Aaron has been leading. God has been watching over12:50 the people of God. And all of a sudden, what do we do? We Oh, we're gonna we're gonna have to elect a new leader. The mob starts to speak13:02 because that always goes well in history when we have mob rule. Can I tell you what we are living in right now? I I I I I thought this yesterday.13:15 We are living in a moment. You cannot spend 5 minutes in front of a television, a phone, radio, anything. 5 minutes13:26 without some message of fear bombarding you. There's some message of some new disease, some new war, some new financial collapse, some new racial strife, some new political13:38 problem. You can't spend 5 minutes listening to anything out there in society without fear trying to get on you.13:51 The the the ruling principalities out there right there right now, are trying to stir us into a place of fear and terror and trying to say to14:03 us, stop following the anointed 1 and elect somebody new in to take you back to Egypt.14:15 Elect somebody in to take you back to the mindset that God broke broke you out of. I don't know about you. I am not going back. I am not going back14:27 to religion. I am not going back to fear. I am not going back to dead works. I'm not doing it. I am not doing it. He who the sun sets free is14:39 free indeed. I am not going back to a place that the enemy lies and steals and corrupts and defends.14:51 No. I'm not doing it. Yeah. But there's giants, Lenny. Yep. And I serve a giant killer. I serve a giant killer. I serve a giant slayer. I'm I I have set my15:03 face to the destiny that God has on my life and on this house. We are not going back tabernacle. We are going forward fully into the destiny15:14 of God on this house. We're possessing the land. And so I'm looking this morning for some Joshua's, and I'm looking this morning for some Caleb's, and I'm looking this morning for some who15:26 are gonna believe the report of the Lord. I'm looking for some this morning who are gonna turn a deaf ear to the voice of the enemy and say, we are well able to possess the land that God15:38 has given us. Verse 6, Joshua, this I'm trying. The Joshua, the son,Faith of Joshua and Caleb: Possess the Land 15:50 have none. And Caleb. Joshua and Caleb, this is going on. The mob is get first, the mob is crying and hysterical. They're sobbing. They're16:02 sad. How quickly they turn from crying to rebellion. I know.16:18 How quickly you get messed up when you're ruled by your emotions. When you are ruled and led by your emotions16:29 instead of being guided and guarded by the word of the Lord. So now the crowd, their their emotions are are stirred up. And first, they're weeping, and then they're afraid,16:41 and now they're rebellious. And Joshua and Caleb, I love this. They that they tore their Joshua and Caleb entered into intercession. And I believe in the16:53 very near future. I was speaking to some leaders this week. In the very near future, this church needs to enter into a season of intercession. We17:05 need to enter into a deep season of waiting on the Lord. Yes. Of crying out to the Lord, of humbling ourself before God, of casting off17:17 the sin, every weight that besets us and saying, god, we we wanna move forward with you 100 percent. We need to do exactly what Joshua and Caleb did, and they17:28 cried out to the lord. Verse 7. The land we pass through to spout is a good land. If the lord delights in us, then he will bring us into this land17:40 and give it to us. Lord, give me people who don't think17:52 the question, can we do it? Who think the question, how will we do it? So world18:04 of difference between can we do it and how will we do it? With God, there are no impossibilities.18:18 There are no impossibilities with the Lord. So Caleb and Joshua are endeavoring to speak to the people. Look at this verse 9.18:31 They say, don't rebel against the Lord. Don't don't fear the people of the land. Their bread do not fear them. Look at verse 10, and all the congregation decided to stone18:42 them with stones. Good church people that they were. Yep.18:56 These were people who had just been walking in the glory of the Lord. They had just these were the people who were just dancing with Miriam's tambourine19:08 a few chapters earlier. And now fear and rebellion and now murder has entered their19:20 minds. Fear is19:32 a great polluter. If you give place to fear in your life, it will begin to grab you.19:45 I I don't wanna go off topic, but I've been meditating on a verse actually for since July, but it came again to me this week. It's,19:57 I don't have it at the moment, but God says, I've laid in Zion the chief cornerstone. It was an old Leon Patillo song. There's 19 of you who remember Leon, but there we go. My Leon20:09 Patillo. 19 85. There we go. And, but this is what it says. That those who know that cornerstone,20:21 they do not make haste. Does that mean? I think we are wrapped up in a fight or flight mentality. The central nervous system20:33 of humanity doesn't know how to be at peace. And Hebrews says, there remains therefore a rest for the people of God.20:44 So so so fight to enter that rest. Strive to enter that rest. That's what I'm believing we're gonna do in these next weeks and months as we begin to set aside more and more time for20:56 prayer corporately. Lord, we we we folks, God help us if all we are is a Sunday21:08 morning service. We need to become the people of God. Walking united in the word of the Lord. Carrying the presence of21:20 God, carrying the purpose of God in our generation. Being a part of the 2 spies club, all the congregation is ready to21:32 stone them, and then what happens? I love it. And then the glory of God appeared. Where? Where?21:46 You should be shouting right now. There should be a Hammond b 3 organ and a praise break going on over there. Leticia grab a pew and give me a21:58 praise break. That's what I need right now. The glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle. God intervened. God22:09 intervened. Now here's what I wanna say. The sad thing is that that generation, God kept his word. God honored his22:21 word. They possessed the land, but that generation did not. That generation did not enter the land of the promise. They saw it. They were22:33 right there on the brink, but they didn't enter the land of promise. Who entered the land of promise? Joshua and Caleb. They had a different spirit. They had a different22:45 spirit. They had a different testimony. The spirit of God was on them and they entered the land. I wanna say over your life, over my life, over our lives, by God's grace, by God's mercy,22:56 we're gonna enter the land of the promise that God has given us. We're gonna yes. But what about this giant? What about that problem? What about yeah. I know all of it, but we ain't no grasshoppers.23:09 We're not grasshoppers. We're not walking around as grasshoppers. Yeah. I see all the problems, but I see a bigger God. I see a bigger God who is bigger than every single giant that's around.23:21 He is greater. The greater 1 lives in us. The greater 1 lives inside of us.23:33 Faith is not a denial of reality. It's an acceptance that there is a greater reality ruling over this temporary reality.23:45 Faith views and sees facts. I understand those facts, but I understand there is someone who is the author of quantum physics. And he23:57 could rewrite his God has his own facts. And God can make those facts be whatever he calls them to be. And so as we24:09 stand at this crossroads, as we stand at this place, the Lord is with us. Faith does not deny reality. Faith interprets24:21 reality correctly in view of the presence of God. So family,24:32 I I believe with all of my heart, pastor Amy, if you'll come, I believe with all of my heart, we are positioned by God. He's brought us out of24:44 Egypt. He's brought you to the kingdom for such a time as this. But he didn't bring us out of Egypt just to live in tents in the wilderness.24:57 He brought us out to possess a land, to possess a territory. And there's giants. There's giants in that territory. But it's a good land and it's flowing with milk and25:09 honey. And there are blessings in that land. And if we look at ourselves, if we look at our abilities, our strengths, our weaknesses, our if25:21 we look at us, we're no. But if we look at the word of the Lord and at God's ability to accomplish what he began,25:33 And I'm telling you the Holy Spirit is gonna come on you. Well, I feel that right there. I feel that right there. The Holy Spirit is gonna come on you with that spirit of Joshua and25:45 Caleb, that spirit of power and might and wisdom, that spirit of courage. When everyone what hearts are failing for25:56 fear all around you, you stand in courage. You stand in courage. God, you've got this. I don't know how, but you've got it.26:07 I don't know26:07 how I can get through another week.26:08 You don't have to get26:09 through another week. You have to get through the next hour. Get through the next hour. Get through right now.
