Global Prayer on Judges 9:11

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Judges 9:11 · KJV

Today’s prayer

Written prayer

Lord, I love your parabables. They make me ponder their meanings and meditate on your word. It is interesting that the fig tree wondered if he should forsake his good fruit and his sweet life for a promotion over others. I think that would be an honor and a chance that most people would jump at, even a fig tree, but as I continued to meditate on the deeper significance I considered some other aspects I hadn’t thought of before. When someone rises to a position of power over others they often have to sacrifice their personal interest for the sake of the collective good of the people. When a public trust is held there is a responsibility to be an inspiration and example for those who hold you accountable. A position of honour and rulership can bring the danger of corruption and pride. Individual fruitfulness can be lost. Lord, as I desire to do good, keep me cautious of becoming too great in my own eyes and letting pride take root in my heart. Sometimes living a simple life produces the sweetest fruit to be enjoyed. Keep me content where I am so I don’t aggressively seek to be promoted. I don’t want to be like those who desire promotion to exalt their own interests. God you are the one who promotes those who are content in you and not seeking fame or fortune. Help me not fall prey to the pride of life in Jesus name, amen.
