Scripture
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Devotional
The existence of evil and suffering in the world is a common argument against the belief in a good God. People question how an all-powerful, loving God could allow terrible things to happen. While this mystery may never be fully understood, we find comfort in trusting that God is in control and working for our good, even amid suffering. We hope that God will eventually make everything right and find solace in Scripture, which states that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those with crushed spirits.
God’s wisdom is unfathomable, and we must trust His plan even in despair. He will ultimately conquer evil and wipe away every tear. While we may wonder why we face trials, God uses them to teach and grow us. Just as physical pain reveals hidden problems, suffering can serve a purpose in our lives.
Are you hurting today? Is your heart broken over difficult situations and sorrow that have come into your life? Praise God for the difficulty. He is at work even in pain, and He promises to work all things together for the good of those who love Him.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for loving me and working in my life. Help me trust You regardless of the heartaches, pains, and difficulties. Help me remember that You are over it all and can make sense of all the suffering. Lord, I cast my burdens, questions, and cares upon You. Thank You for promising You’ll never leave or forsake me when I put my faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
