Scripture
“In all things shewing [proving] thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.”
Devotional
If we are “saved by grace,” apart from good works, what difference does it make if we do good or not? Because Scripture commands us to set an example.
When we do good, it reveals:
• God’s love for others: Jesus said to let our light shine (Matthew 5:16) because people can see God’s love more clearly when we show love.
• Christ’s presence in our lives: Good trees produce good fruits (Matthew 7:17). When we abide in Christ and know He loves us, we can’t help doing good.
• Our priority in life: He calls us to renew our minds with Scripture to fulfill His will (Romans 12:2). We are living out what counts for all eternity.
• Jesus’ purpose for our lives: Jesus blessed us with unique gifts to do the unique good works He calls us to (Ephesians 2:10).
When we do good, the light of Christ pushes back the darkness, connects us with others, and provides peace beyond understanding. Embrace His love for you today so you can share His love with others.
Reflection
How can you “do good” to help your neighbors, friends, and colleagues explore a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
