October 7th Anniversary and International News 0:00 Hello. I'm Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council and host of Washington Watch. Thanks for tuning in. Every day, we offer a biblical perspective on the news as well as insightful interviews with elected0:12 leaders, newsmakers, and culture experts. We have a great program planned for you today, but 1st, get up to speed on the top headlines with Washington Stan's news brief.0:27 Welcome to the Washington Stan news brief. I'm Casey Harper bringing you today's big stories. We are less than a month out from the midterms, and some are speculating about what could happen if Democrats take control of0:38 congress. House speaker Mike Johnson said on the Scott Jennings show that it's not gonna happen, but if Democrats win, impeaching president Donald Trump will be at the top of the agenda.0:49 How sure are you that they would immediately move to impeach president Trump?0:54 It's guaranteed probably on the 1st day, 1st or 2nd day. Remember, they've already filed articles of impeachment in this congress. I mean, they're raring to go. The radical left, the insurgent left that has taken over1:05 the Democrat party would also take over the agenda. They would not be even working to pass legislation because, of course, president Trump would remain in the White House. House. They would turn every committee of congress into an investigative body. Impeachment would just be the start, my friend. They would they would go after and investigate every waking hour the president, the 1st family, his cabinet, donors of the party.1:13
1:24 They'll go after, you know, leaders of industry and business. I mean, it will be law fair on steroids, like, unlike anything we've ever seen.
1:30 Incumbent Democrats have certainly already voted in the past to do just that, and several have said they want to investigate president Trump and his family if they win. House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries said he also
1:41 wants to focus on the investigations, but he wouldn't rule out going for impeachment. Well, president Trump from the White House today responded to those threats.
1:51 He said, yeah. We would impeach him. And what would you exactly impeach him for? Well, I don't know. Let's see. Let's see. That's it. So that's as far as I get. With that being
2:03 said, I could have done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could have done very, very bad things to Joe Biden. I could have done very bad things to Barack
2:14 Hussein Obama. I thought it was inappropriate to do so because you have to treat the office of the presidency with respect.
2:26 At that same press conference, president Trump announced an expansion of his signature Trump accounts, investment accounts for kids. Many of those accounts have been seeded by the US Treasury and private donors with
2:37 donations up to 1000 dollars each. Now with auto enrollment, tens of millions more accounts are available that need only be claimed by parents. The White House said currently 10000000 children's accounts are
2:49 funded, but this week that number will more than double with more likely on the way.
2:54 Each of you has an investment account, and you're gonna be owners. You guys now own part of Apple. Apple. You own part of Dell computers. You own part of McDonald's. Next time you go order a Big Mac, you
3:06 should walk in and say, look, I own the place. That is powerful.
3:11 President Trump also responded in that press conference to a question about the Russian plague. A woman who worked in a Siberian laboratory studying the plague died, prompting the government to quarantine dozens of
3:22 others. That and reports of a possible 2nd related death have sparked concerns around the world, but that's been downplayed by Russian officials.
3:32 Is the plague in Russia a vile weapon?
3:35 Well, we don't think so. We're gonna find out soon enough, but we don't think so. And if, you listen to them, it's under control. You know? People have said that before about other things. So we hope
3:47 it is very sophisticated, very smart, and, they're saying it's very much under control.
3:54 We'll keep
3:54 you updated on the latest there. Well, for our last story, Israelis held vigils around the country Wednesday to commemorate the October 7th attacks in 20 23 where Hamas terrorists killed
4:06 1200, mostly civilians, many of them women and children. Some visited the Nova Music Festival near the Gaza border, where 348 young people were killed by terrorists during that
4:18 attack. Various events were held commemorating the anniversary, including the central ceremony at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv. The anniversary is the 1st for Israelis without any hostages still held in Gaza.
4:30 The remains of the last Israeli hostage were recovered in January. Well, that is today's news. I'm Casey Harper. You can find out more at the Washington Stand. As for us, we're back next time with more stories
4:42 that matter.
4:52 From the heart of our nation's capital in Washington DC, bringing compelling interviews, insightful analysis, taking you beyond the headlines and sound bites into conversations with our nation's leaders and
5:04 newsmakers, all from a biblical world view. Washington Watch with Tony Perkins starts now.
5:10 I spoke with Bibi Netanyahu, and I, wished him well, and I wished the people of Israel well. That was a horrible day, a horrible tragedy, a horrible...
5:22 And the the other side is paying a very big price for what they did on October 7th. Believe me.
5:27 That was president Donald Trump earlier today expressing his solidarity with Israel and extending his best wishes to prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli people on this 3rd anniversary of the deadly
5:39 Hamas terrorist attack. Welcome to this Wednesday, October 7th edition of Washington Watch. I'm your host, Tony Perkins. Thanks so much for joining us. Well, coming up, a new Rasmussen poll suggests
5:51 Republicans are gaining ground among Hispanic voters ahead of November's midterm elections. Congressman Andrew Clyde of Georgia joins us to discuss how the elections are shaping up. And former FBI director
6:03 John Pistole joins us to discuss an alleged terrorist plotting, terrorist plotting, to target non Muslims at Minnesota's Mall of America. And the troubling history of Islamic
6:15 radicalization in the state. Plus, pastor Paul Chappell of Lancaster Baptist Church in California joins us to discuss legislation affecting retirement benefits for pastors
6:27 across the country. And as the world remembers the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on October 7th, we must not lose sight of how those events set in motion a chain of consequences that
6:39 continue to shape the crisis unfolding across the Middle East. Doctor David Adusnick, vice president of research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, joins us to connect
6:51 October 7th to the present turmoil in the region. All of that and more straight ahead. Alright. We began with the
7:03 3rd anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel's history. On October 7th 20 23, Hamas terrorists stormed southern Israel, murdering approximately 1200 people and taking more than
7:14 250 hostages. Today, Israelis are remembering those who were brutally murdered, honoring the victims and reflecting on a day that forever forever changed their nation.
7:25 Joining us now is Washington stand reporter Casey Harper. So, Casey, how is, Israel marking this solemn anniversary?
7:34 Yeah. Thanks, Tony. 3 years, as you said, after the deadly Hamas terrorist attack, Israelis across the nation have gathered in cities and towns for memorial services for the victims who were murdered. As you said, 1200
7:45 mostly civilians in a day that traumatized Israel and has since transformed the Middle East. The terror attacks marked the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, and, of course, it sparked the war in
7:57 Gaza. This 3rd anniversary since the attacks marks the 1st time for Israelis, though, to, remember this day without having any hostages still held in Gaza, Tony.
8:08 Well, let's shift to some other international use sec... News. Secretary of state Marco Rubio, is in Greece, where in a speech he called for a return to the foundational values of the West. Casey,
8:20 tell us about this speech.
8:22 Yeah. This address in Athens, which is, of course, you know, the foundation of democracy or at least the birthplace and other Western philosophies and values, secretary of state Marco Rubio said that the west itself is
8:33 at an inflection point. He urged the European nations to join the US in, quote, confronting the threats of our age. It's kind of a striking image with the Parthenon in the distance behind him. Secretary... Terry Rubio
8:45 in his speech echoed us and was very similar actually to vice president JD Vance's speech back in February of 20 25 at that Munich Security Conference. That 1 really cast Europe's challenges as a retreat from
8:57 shared Western values. And actually, we have a clip here.
9:01 Today, we find ourselves at a crossroads because the next decade and the decisions we make will write the story of the next century. The
9:13 course we take will determine whether the West maintains its place at the head of the world or resigns itself to a future of atrophy and servitude and decline.
9:25 Kind of a powerful moment there, but secretary Rubio will conclude his trip to Europe after talks with Portuguese officials, which is scheduled for tomorrow in Lisbon.
9:34 Hard to beat that backdrop. Let's, let's turn to some domestic news. A new poll reveals a, a a a very significant shift among Hispanic voters ahead of the midterm elections.
9:46 Tell us about the poll's findings, Casey.
9:48 Yeah. Some hope for Republicans as we draw very, very close to election day. So this new Rasmussen Reports poll shows that Hispanic voters support Republicans by a 50 percent to 42 percent margin over
10:00 Democrats. That's a flip from back in September when it was 44 to 42 in favor of Democrats. Now the poll revealed a battle for Congress that's getting narrower as the Democrats' lead over Republicans decreased for the
10:11 2nd week in a row. Now this Democratic lead fell from 5 to 3 points and is really not what you're hearing in the media narrative now. The poll shows Republicans have made notable gains by cutting in 0.5 their
10:23 deficit among independent voters, which, of course, is a closely watched stat, Tony.
10:28 We will be watching that very closely as, as we have a sprint to the finish line. Alright. Casey, thanks so much for
10:34 Thanks, Tony.
10:35 The update. Alright. Let... Let's continue, our discussion of the midterm elections and how they are shaping up shaping up. Joining us now is congressman Andrew Clyde, a member of the House Freedom Caucus. He represents
10:46 the 9th congressional district of Georgia. Congressman Clyde, welcome back to Washington Watch. Thanks for joining us.
10:53 Well, thank you for having me, tonight, Tony.
10:56 I I know we we look at polls. They're an indicator. They're not the final word. We take them with a grain of salt, but it's worth noting how Rasmussen reports saw the Democratic lead over the GOP
Midterm Elections and the Need for Christian Engagement
11:08 decrease for a 2nd week in the row, in a row. What do you think is behind that?
11:15 Well, I'll tell you, 1st, that's great news. But the 1 poll that really matters is gonna be on November the 3rd. You know, what's behind that? Well, I think the country is realizing the incredible things that
11:27 Republicans have done this term, whether it's in the 1 big beautiful bill whether it's securing the southern border, You know all of these things are reducing our taxes, increasing making
11:39 permanent the child tax credit no tax on tips on tax and overtime reducing, social security at taxable wages I mean all of that are the things that republicans have done that energize this
11:50 country but I'll tell you this republicans need to get out and vote, you know Everyone that watches you right here tonight, you know all the pastors they need to be talking to their congregations if christians those
12:02 with christian principles and we need people those represent Representatives in our government if they would get out if pastors would get out and say, please go vote. Alright? Make your voice
12:14 known, make it heard. I think we would have a tremendous red wave.
12:20 I actually think you're absolutely right. In fact, I hosted a group of pastors yesterday for breakfast to talk about a local election and, you know, they're really not, plugged into to the
12:32 issues and what is going on. And I think we see that nationally, and I think that's why as the speaker has been on, and and many of the Republicans out talking about the contrast and what this election could mean for the
12:42 country if the... If if there's a flip in control of the house or the senate given what we are seeing the democratic party embrace?
12:54 Oh, no doubt. I mean, what we would see is constant impeachments of president Trump. We would see a... An an elimination or an attempt to eliminate the America 1st agenda. The gains that we have made
13:06 over the past 2 years under president Trump's leadership, they would try to erase those. They would try to throw wide open the border. All of these things that are... Is making... That are making our country stronger,
13:18 they would try to destroy. And that's simply not a path that this country needs to go down. And and and then we'd see socialism and communism and and Islamism, you know, in our government, and we can't go down that
13:30 path either. We need people with solid Christian principles like our founding fathers who created this nation to be in the government today. That's why I think pastors have such an incredible voice and and an opportunity
13:42 to use it.
13:43 You know, I have not had a chance to dig into the Rasmussen poll in this shift in Hispanic voters, which I find extremely intriguing. Number 1, because of the the issues we've had
13:55 with, immigration and illegal immigration and and how the Hispanic community initially has responded to that, and, you know, some would argue that there was an overreach there. But I think what's driving this is
14:07 that many of them have come to this country from socialistic countries. They understand what's at stake in this election, and that's why we're seeing this trend as it's becoming evident where the Democratic
14:19 Party is headed. They're saying we came from that. We don't want that here.
14:24 Oh, I think, yeah, I hope you're absolutely right because, these countries where the immigrants are coming from, yes, many of them are socialism, are socialist governments or communist governments,
14:36 and and people who have actually experienced that They know the pitfalls of it They know how dangerous that is and how it takes away people's freedoms and liberties And that's not what america is
14:48 all about. America is a land of the free and we need to keep it that way, which is why American citizens need to get out and absolutely make their voices heard so that we get solid christian representation
15:00 in our government.
15:01 Alright. Speaking of American citizens voting, you have been working on election integrity legislation, and I wanna get you to respond to a court ruling last Friday in which a judge dismissed a federal case against a
15:13 Jamaican national accused of illegally voting, finding that the law she was charged with, was unconstitutional. The law in question prohibits a non US
15:25 citizen from voting in a federal election. How could the judge arrive at such a conclusion?
15:30 Well, you're talking about judge Leibovitz here, and, this judge needs to be impeached. Because if you would go back and look at a Supreme Court decision in Oregon v Mitchell in 19 70, you would see that the Supreme
15:41 Court even weighed in and said, yes. The federal government does have an authority when it comes to regulating federal elections. So I'm sorry, judge Lee, but which puts you dead wrong here.
15:53 And, that kind of a judicial decision where you show yourself to be a radical, activist judge, is, is gonna put you in in in the spotlight for us
16:05 here in congress to impeach you.
16:08 But this judge's view as you've just laid out is consistent with what the democratic socialists are pushing for.
16:17 You're exactly right tony and that's why it is so critically important that we ensure that the democrat socialists are really the democrat communists If if you want to tag them correctly, why they need
16:29 to not be in power And we need to ensure that Republicans dominate, and we win. We keep our majority so that these Democrat socialists slash communists do not have any authority, and the
16:41 judges, then, then do not make these kind of rulings.
16:46 People need to critically think. Alright? Just just take facts. Common sense exactly. I mean, just think about this for a moment. If anybody who shows up in this country could vote, what's that going to
16:58 lead to? We're not gonna have a country.
17:01 No. We're not gonna have a country. You know? Then all of our enemies could just flood into the country and and and and vote and determine who the government is in this country. No. I'm sorry. That's just not the way our
17:12 constitution is written, and, people need to understand that and obviously this is a radical, activist judge and and this... The true colors are now being shown here. And so we just
17:24 need to purge our judiciary of these kind of people.
17:28 The... When we look at the congressional races across the country, there's about 22 seats, 22 congressional districts according to the Cook report, and and the Republicans have acknowledges that those 22
17:40 seats will pretty much determine the outcome of, this election. And and some of them are are in unlikely places. So it doesn't matter where you live. You could determine the
17:51 course of... The future course of the country if you show up or vote... Show up and vote or not.
17:58 And that is why it is so critically important that our solid conservative christian folks those who want this representation christian representation in our government They have
18:10 to make their voices known. They have to go to the ballot box You know, we're on our soapboxes here to to encourage them to go to the ballot box, so that we don't have to go to the cartridge box. But, but,
18:21 Tony, our folks definitely need to get out and vote. And and as I said, pastors do have influence here, and I encourage them.
18:29 Congressman, thanks so much for joining us. Always appreciate hearing from you.
18:34 Thank you.
18:35 Andrew Clyde from Georgia. By the way, we have, election resources available for you, f r c action dot o r g. We can give you voter guides. We can help you vote. Alright? You gotta do the work.
18:46 Coming up next, another terrorist plot in Minnesota is thwarted. That's next. The pray vote stand summit. That's not just a title. It is a description
18:58 of the action that we're taking. We need to pray 1st. We need to be bold in our spirit as we pray and abide in Christ. We need to vote biblical values. And then no matter what happens, we need to stand
Thwarted Terror Plot at Mall of America and Radicalization
19:10 on that biblical truth.
19:12 It isn't that the church has gotten political. It's that the political secular world has waded into theological waters. Yeah. And so we're just addressing these things from a biblical perspective.
19:23 We have more abortions now in this country than we did when Roe was the law of the land because of the abortion drug. It is turning every mailbox in in America into a planned parenthood. The only way to make
19:34 the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe, the only way to make it real is to ban the abortion drug in the United States of America.
19:42 It took us 49 years to overturn Roe versus Wade. Obergefell is not settled law. Obergefell is next.
19:50 Most whistle blowers don't get victories like this. You know, this never happens, and this is just a testament to how God is so faithful, and he writes the best stories.
19:59 Ultimately, Sharia is antithetical to the constitution. In Islam, the false god of Islam says, die for me. The god of
20:08 the bible says, I love you so much. I died for you so you can live for me. There's the difference.
20:16 Capitalism means the unequal distribution of wealth. Socialism means the equal distribution of poverty. And that's what we've seen. That is the history of socialism.
20:28 Candy and I have been to 6 8 countries, and we've lived overseas. And I can tell you, there is no place like the United States of America.
20:37 We don't get to decide the times in which we live. Our responsibility as Christians is to bear witness to the truth of the gospel and the truth of Christ and the truth of God and the truth of God's word
20:49 in every arena of life.
20:52 Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray because God is able. God answers prayer. Let that be our testimony in the future. Yeah. We stood. We voted.
21:04 We did what we knew to do, but we prayed, and God came, and God did what only God can do.
21:10 Father, we pray now for the Jewish people that this would be a time of intense revival. So we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We pray for the Jewish state. We pray for the
21:22 Jewish people that their Messiah would be known to them.
21:25 I would invite you if if you have never invited Jesus Christ into your life to be your savior, to confess him with your mouth that he is Lord, that you would do that and find that peace,
21:38 that abundant life, that everlasting life that comes to the relationship with Jesus Christ as you are connected to your creator, father God.
21:52 Welcome back to Washington. Why? Thanks so much for, joining us. The website, tony perkins dot com. Better yet, get the Stand Firm app. Go to the App Store and download the Stand Firm app. That way you'll have Washington
22:04 Watch with you no matter where you go. Earlier today, federal authorities in Minnesota announced the arrest of an 18 year old man accused of plotting a mass casualty terrorist attack at the Mall of America in support
22:16 of ISIS. According to federal prosecutors, the suspect planned to kill as many as 60 people, specifically targeting non Muslims.
22:26 Federal law enforcement is standing up to their calling to protect us. Here, because of their vigilance and diligence, they were able to detect a threat and disrupt
22:37 it before the defendant carried out his intention to kill, in his words, maybe 30 to 60 people.
22:45 How was Minnesota US attorney Daniel Rosen? This is not the 1st time federal authorities have confronted terrorism related threats involving Islamic individuals in Minnesota's Somalia American community.
22:58 Nearly 2 decades ago, the FBI began investigating networks recruiting young Somali Americans to join Al Shabaab in Somalia. Now subsequent investigations uncovered
23:09 ISIS recruiting efforts, including a case involving a former Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport employee who had held security credentials granting access to restricted areas. Now with another
23:21 alleged terrorist plot targeting 1 of America's largest shopping malls, questions remain about how individuals become radicalized, how terrorist organizations recruit followers here in the
23:33 United States, Americans born here. And what more can be done to identify and stop these threats before innocent lives are lost? Joining us now is former FBI deputy director John Pistole who held lead...
23:45 The lead in a... Helped lead the bureau's counterterrorism, efforts following September 11th, 2001. Those attacks, he currently serves as a senior adviser at a law firm in Indiana.
23:57 John, welcome back to Washington Watch. Thanks so much for joining us.
24:00 Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, John. It's good to be with you.
24:03 So what do we know so far regarding this planned attack, and what do we know about the suspect?
24:08 Yeah. So as you mentioned, it's an 18 year old Somali man who, as as you mentioned in the introduction, there's tens of thousands, maybe 100000 Somalis who are... Live in the Twin
24:20 Cities area. I was a 1st office FBI agent there decades ago, so I have a little bit of familiarity there. What we know thus far is that it was an FBI undercover
24:32 operation where the FBI undercover agent officer, would sometimes involve a task force officers, with an extensive conversation,
24:44 texting back and forth with the subject, and eventually had sufficient evidence to take to the US attorney's office that we heard from earlier to say, yes. There is sufficient evidence to charge this young man
24:56 with the the the plot to kill 30, 50, 60 people at the Mall of America that... As you mentioned, 1 of the largest malls in the US and non Muslims, of course. And so that's the
25:08 the gist of it. 1 of the key questions that will be addressed is, was there entrapment? In other words, did the FBI put in the mind of this person, this young man,
25:20 that he should do this as opposed to was he predisposed to committing this act that the FBI simply helped facilitate the overacts and furtherance of this plot.
25:31 Yeah. I I I I can see that as former law enforcement seeing as they they sold him the weapon, whether or not this was entrapment. I... My concern, John, is this. This is not the 1st time
25:43 we've seen this in in Minnesota and Minneapolis. I mean, we're we're... There's a trend, and it's not the only place. It's happening elsewhere in the country. How do we keep a country like the United States where we have
25:55 freedom for... These are individuals born in America. These are people who who who... He's 18 years old 18 years old, born here, grew up here, and he's radicalized. I mean, how
26:06 do we how do we deal with this?
26:10 Yeah. It's a great question because it's something that we're looking for a solution that I don't... I'm not sure exist. And I say that because,
26:20 you know,
26:20 27 years at the FBI, 4.5 at TSA, 10 years at a Christian university, president of the university in Anderson, Indiana. Anderson University, a great school. No radicalization there. But
26:32 the idea that there have been some great, in terms of bad, radicalizers doing it all online. Anwar Alaki, 1 of the best known back over the last 20 years,
26:44 radicalizing people who had, very little contact in... Perhaps no in in person contact, but they radicalized online to commit acts that they probably could have
26:56 never undertaken if... But for that online radicalization in several examples of that. And so there's... That's 1 of the challenges that that US law enforcement was also charged with
27:08 protecting people's privacy and civil liberties of US citizen. And so if it's a US citizen that they are investigating, how do they balance that of investigating aggressively to make sure person doesn't pull the
27:20 trigger, that they... If they have some access to a weapon they don't... The FBI doesn't know about, for example, and, yeah, protecting privacy and civil liberties, which, we We're we're unique.
27:32 As a country, we're unique in that role that we have these civil liberties. We have these rights. We have we have these freedoms that we we relish, we protect, we defend. I mean, we send... You know, we have
27:43 men and women who who serve every day in law enforcement. We have men and women who serve in uniform the military to defend those rights, and then we have people here at home using those against us. John, we only have,
27:54 like, 2 minutes left, but I don't think we can look at this as just a radicalization, that has a solution when it comes to law enforcement or
28:06 politics. I think we have to look at this as a spiritual... The spiritual side of this as well.
28:11 Well, that's a good question, and holy only god knows what's in people's hearts. Of course, we can look to actions and discern what may be going on in their hearts, and their actions clearly
28:23 indicate, good intent or bad intent. But they... As Paul talks about, you know, we will know them by their fruits. And is there fruit of the spirit that is coming out from these people, or is
28:35 it hate? Is it war mongering? And are are there things that that could be identified? And that really gets to the core, I think, of what your question is.
28:44 Well, I think
28:44 I I do.
28:45 Trying to address that.
28:47 I mean, John is is former law enforcement and actually having worked in antiterrorism myself. We need the hand of God's protection. So our country is in such such a such a situation that with
28:58 short of God's hand of protection and guidance upon this nation, it's gonna be difficult. It'll be difficult. Oh, I agree.
29:06 I wouldn't I wouldn't leave... I wouldn't limit it to, the US. I think the world is in a a bad place, and and, unfortunately, the US is in better shape than most, countries that that you have
