Approaching God with Reverence 0:02 We wanna honor God because He sees everything.0:10 You were born with a plan and a purpose. He's the god of all things possible. He's the god of all0:22 miracles.0:52 Welcome to Grace Grace with Naina Michelle. I'm Michelle Humphreys. And I0:56 am Naina Keegan. Welcome to the broadcast today. Today, we're gonna be talking about the prayer... The the principles of prayer. And so many of us, you know, we we may say a1:08 prayer. We we kinda get in there and say a prayer, but do we really know what we're saying when we pray, what it means when we pray? You know, prayer is a communication with God, which1:20 means we also have to listen. We can speak with the Lord, but we have to listen back to see what he wants to say to us. It's not just rattling off something from memory. I know so many of us know so many prayers1:32 that we said in church as a kid. You can rattle it off. Do we even know what you're saying? Is it said with, you know, something coming out of your heart, a heartfelt, you know, unction that you you you need to pray. You1:43 want to be in God's presence. You want to, you know, invite him into your circumstances. You know, there's such a difference, and we need to get back to being mindful of our prayers1:55 and what we're saying and how we are communicating with the Lord and not just being some checklist. You know how we can get in there, you know, say the prayer, say this, say the Lord's prayer, whatever it is, which is2:07 great because that's how Jesus taught us to pray. But, you know, is is that, you know, is there a reverence? Is there, like, are you being holy, like, honoring his glory and his holiness2:19 with a reverential fear of the Lord? Are you coming into his presence with with with just an awe of who he is? And and and then praying, you know, to... For2:30 him to, you know, to to hear your heart. I mean, there's such a difference, you know, and I feel like it's so important that we get back to that place that we're... But but you don't even realize you're doing that2:41 sometimes. That's why we need to call that out, I feel like, today.2:44 Ew. I'm convicted. That's that's rough. Starting it out rough here. Yeah. Well, let me just stop and pray, because we can be2:56 overly familiar with God.2:57 That's what I'm saying. Yeah.2:59 I mean, I'm in here. I was gonna give my little, you know, 6 points of prayer and, but, whew, that's convicting. I know that that that is that is true.3:10 I... We can be overly familiar with God and then be... Like the Bible says, the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. And we want to have that reverential fear3:23 of the Lord. And, you know, my mom, she had, like, a a very sweet faith, a very childlike faith, and she was so reverent. I mean, she would not let me3:35 look around in church. I actually went to church with my husband for 2 years and never saw him because I wouldn't look around because I went to church with my mama. And3:46 she absolutely......3:47 Mean, like, before you met him? Before I3:49 met him....3:50 Her future husband.3:51 My future husband. Oh, I...3:52 Yeah. I kinda was like, no. You didn't look at Troy the whole time you're in church.3:55 Yeah. That was a good point.3:57 Yeah. I didn't realize...3:58 I left I left that out. Yeah. That's important. No. I went to I went to church with my future husband, and I never saw him. And I I... It wasn't that big with church, but she would,4:10 like, elbow me if I4:12 Don't arm pinch. Pinch. She never pinched me. Under the arm.4:15 She would be like, hey. You know? She didn't want me to look around. So I didn't even see the man who would turn into my husband later because... And I'm sure I would have thought, oh, he's cute. You know?4:27 But but I absolutely had this, like, my mama says, I better get in there and be good and and to have this reverential fear of the Lord. And so... And you could... You4:39 know, chewing gum, you know, it was like a very different than now, you know, you're walking in with your coffee cup and, you know, they might have sold you some cookies outside at the bake sale or And snow4:51 cones. That would have not been allowed, you know, when I was growing up. And and I think we missed that. You know, we get too familiar with the Lord, and that5:03 is very convicting, Nina. So thank you for saying it. I am convicted and now we just need to stop and pray.5:10 I feel like I feel like, you know, I don't... We never want prayer or our time with the Lord to be a have to. It needs to be I want to.5:22 And I feel like sometimes in the morning, like, I can't wait. I get my coffee. I just gotta open my Bible. I gotta get in there. I gotta be with him. I gotta see what he has to say. And I I know...5:34 Sometimes I wonder, like, does he think my prayers are always ridiculous? Because it's like they'll start 1 way and then I'm like... And and I don't want it to be like a laundry list of complaints either5:46 and all these things. So I always like to remember to... 1 of the prayers, 1 of the 1 of the habits of prayers is to be thankful. And so I'd like to get in there 1st and say, you5:57 know, thank you, God. Thank you, Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you for, you know, blessing my life. Thank you for every... Think that we're healthy. And I go through this, all these things. And if you really got6:09 into the habit of doing that, you would be surprised how blessed you are and how thankful you are and, you know, just that everyone's healthy or that you have a roof over your head and thank you. You know, just6:20 everything that you could be thankful for because... And if we don't start with that, you know, I always think, you know, as as a parent, are you gonna just hand over... Keep blessing your child who's never6:32 thankful for what they already have or hasn't thanked you for what they've already been given? And then, you know, ask him, you know, how are you, Lord? What I I... And I always say, let my heart grieve6:43 and be broken for what breaks your heart. So show me today what is breaking your heart. And and, you know, and that's what it should be. We... Our heart should be breaking for the things that6:55 breaks the Lord's heart. And, of course, you know, getting in there and and and telling him what you need, he he already knows. He knows exactly what you need. He knows what you... But he loves that you are gonna commune7:06 with him and talk to him and present your request to God. And that's where your peace comes from because you know that he's heard you. There's a scripture that says that when you pray, if you know that7:18 he hears you, that that you are knowing that he's hearing you. So there's that. Who are we praying to? Then he will give you what you ask. And so, you know, it's not just this this7:30 this list we're spewing off. This is almighty god, and he's listening to us. He's like, hold everything. My my my baby needs me. That's how he thinks of you. And he's7:41 like, stop. Hold the phones. You know? And he's there. He's listening to every word. Every word he inclines his ear to hear, and he's faithful. He's so faithful.7:53 And and and if you just believe with mustard seed faith, he's he's gonna take care of all your concerns and all of your needs. But, you know, there's just a different approach8:05 that maybe you haven't thought about, and that's entering his courts, entering his courts with praises and thanksgiving. And that's what we're doing. We get to be in his presence. We get to enter his courts. Just that8:17 alone is so amazing. But are you entering with praises and thanksgiving? And don't you just love that? I just feel that. And so we're gonna talk more about prayer prayer and the habits of prayer when we8:29 come right back. Stay right there. We are talking about habits and principles of prayer and about praying and listening for that still small voice of God.9:48 You know, I think it's so important that we just stop and and and like what Nina was saying, you know, we... We're we're going before the Lord with thanksgiving. We're going before9:59 the Lord with praise to remember who he is and to be, not overly familiar with the Lord, to have a reverential fear and admonition for the10:11 Lord, to have an awe of God, a holy awe. And then once we get into that place and there's nothing like it10:21 Mhmm.10:21 There's no drug, there's not a drink, there's not a a a guy or girl or a situation that is better than that place. Yeah. When you've passed10:33 up Thanksgiving, you've gotten into prayer, and you are in his presence. Mhmm. There is not a better place. And that is when the Holy Spirit will begin to speak to you.10:45 He'll begin to tell you things in his word. He'll begin to remind you of things. He'll... For some... Sometimes he just, like, go... Takes me through the word and10:54 Yep.10:55 By the end of it, I have a whole sermon that I didn't even know was in the Bible. Message from the Bible. And but yet it's all extracted11:06 and and the Holy Spirit is just walking you through. And and my husband can attest, you know, when when I'm in a moment like that, I I mean, I'll shoot my arms up and tears will be streaming down my eyes,11:18 and I'm like, oh my goodness, God. You're amazing. Mhmm. You amaze me. You are are awesome, and I can... I just get in a place of11:30 awe of the Lord. And what I've noticed is when I really have, like, a dire need... You know, the Bible says I cried to the Lord in my distress, and he answered my11:41 cry. And, you know, sometimes you you just come to the Lord and you have no words because maybe something really hurt you that day or the day before. You thought about it all through the night, you know, as you would11:52 wake up or different things, and and so you you come to the Lord so heavy burdened, and God will meet you right where you are. But I would highly suggest12:04 you still go through thank you for this. Just begin to go through your thank list. And then begin to praise the Lord and then wait for the Lord's presence. You know what? When I have12:16 done that and put all those things aside like I really need to be praying about this. Mhmm. But when I begin to think about the awe and the... How wonderful God is and how he can do anything and12:28 how we don't need to worry about anything and and how he spoke all things into existence, how he made, the sun and the moon and the galaxies and how he attends the funerals12:40 of the... Of a sparrow and how everything matters to him, how he numbers the very hairs on your head. He's not too busy to hear your prayer. He wants you to12:52 talk to him and he will begin to download. Like, he'll tell me things that I had prayed about a week ago and tell me something about that and and that it's gonna be13:04 okay. And and... But I might not even be praying about that. He'll just get you in a different zone when you get in that place where you're just sitting in the presence of God. There is nothing13:16 like it. Nothing.13:17 And and a lot of times I know when I pray, like, a scripture will pop in my mind the address of a scripture, you know, like, go to Philippians or go somewhere, and it... You know, it'll be something I don't really know,13:28 you know, and and I'll just go... And it... And and it'll be, like, the answer or what I need to know or... And then I'll just be... That can change your day. Like, okay. He said it. He gave me this. This13:40 is this is the word over my circumstance, over what I'm praying over. And he wants... He's just kind of put you in that spot. Okay. I got this. And then it is like that scripture. You'll watch and see. He'll confirm13:52 it. Somebody else will give you that scripture. You'll see it on a show. You'll read it on a devotional. It'll pop up. And it might even be a scripture that you haven't ever paid attention to, and it'll be like it's14:02 brand new because the word is alive. It's ever before us and it's living and breathing and changing and it's to change you. And, you know, when when we come to that place, maybe it's something that you need to14:14 repent of or whatever. You know, repentance isn't when you cry, it's when you change. And, you know, his word changes you. And and the Bible talks so much about childlike faith and childlike faith. And I have this14:26 2 year old grandson, and truly, it's amazing. You know, I prayed before he was ever born that, you know, there's a scripture that says even my infants will worship you. And I prayed that he was worshiping him from theThe Power of Childlike Faith 14:37 womb and that, you know, he would be a worshiper and that he would he would be prophetic and that your sons and your young men, he's a young man, would have visions and dreams. And and to14:49 hear him pray, I mean, before meals and the things he comes up with, and he thanks the Lord for all the food, and he... He'll he'll... Even the little things on his heart, maybe it's an15:00 animal he saw at the zoo or whatever, he just prays. But I see him using prayer, and he knows so many scriptures. He he he knows the Lord's prayer. He knows things. But the other day, he was15:12 in our playroom, and he's wrestling with my son. And I saw him bump his hip, like, on the coffee table, and he didn't cry, didn't say anything. He just said... He held his side, and he15:24 goes he goes, in Jesus' name, be healed. And then he goes, okay. Like like he was communing with God. And then he rubbed it and then he kept playing. It was like he was asking the15:36 Lord to make it feel better. He didn't say a word. He didn't complain. He didn't cry. And then he's like, okay. Like, okay. Thank you. He did it. But he always says, ask ask God in Jesus' name. But the other15:47 day, I was telling Michelle about childlike faith. He has this little stuffed rhinoceros, and it's really a triceratops, but he calls it his Ronnie the rhinoceros. And15:59 he was all troubled by the fact that the rhinoceros doesn't have ears. And so literally, he doesn't ask or wanna know why or ask us. He started praying, dear Jesus, please give16:11 Ronnie some ears. And and he's... In Jesus' name. And so if you think about you have not because you ask not, and what wouldn't the Lord do for you if you... I think16:23 about that childlike faith. That's how we need to be. I know it might sound ridiculous right now, but that's all God wants us to have. Because faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence16:35 of things not seen, and God wants to do all those things for us. And when you don't even know what to pray, it doesn't have to be some lengthy, perfect, you know, precision, you know, all this kind of16:47 PowerPoints. It just needs to be, God, I need help. I don't even know what to do about this anymore, but you do. And I'm exhausted, and I've just given it off to you because it can be as simple as that.16:59 That's all it takes. Mhmm. It's just simplicity. Childlike faith can be... And he responds. God will respond to that childlike faith, and and you'll see him move on your17:11 life because he... That's all he's asking. He's just asking for you to come to him. We're gonna talk more about that when we come right back. Stay right there. You are watching Grace Grace with Naina and Michelle.17:21 The world needs to be reached with the message of Jesus. Gifts are tax deductible, so join us in the great commission today.18:20 Give now.18:22 Welcome back to Grace Grace with Naina Michelle. We are talking about listening during prayer and just the principles of prayer. And today, we are18:34 just... You know, the Bible has a clear template. Jesus said how... The disciples said, how do we pray? And he said, our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy18:46 name, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not18:58 into temptation. Deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Right? If you take that prayer and you use it as a template, it19:10 doesn't mean that you pray that prayer, drop the mic and you're done for the day. God wants to have a relationship with you. And I I always talk about my mother-in-law. And, you know, when she didn't...19:22 She might have called, you know, a few of her friends, when she had a need, but she really called on Jesus when she had a need. And I I was always amazed when I would listen to her pray if she got up 1st or whatever19:34 if I was spending the night at the house. She would say to the lord, you know, you know, Lord, you you know, you saw this and then this happened and then that19:46 happened. I mean, she's just talking to the Lord as if she was talking to Nina. You know, she was just saying and and then this and then that. And I would always think, but why is she talking to the Lord? He saw all of19:56 that. He knows what they're... What she's thinking, what they're thinking. You know? But I think that was an important thing for me to hear because Jesus was her best friend. And she was going20:08 to her best friend and telling him, and then this and then that, as if there was any search in his understanding, as if he didn't see the whole thing, as if everything was not laid20:20 bare before the Lord because it all is. But she had a relationship with Jesus, and he wants that for all of us. He wants us to talk to him20:32 like we're a friend. The Bible says Jesus is a friend that sticks closer to you than a brother. Right? So he's your best friend. He is. So if you wanna go20:44 to him rather than getting on your cell phone or texting getting... DMing somebody and telling them about something. He's there to listen. He wants to hear20:56 what you have to say, and he wants you to cry out to him and believe that he will answer you.21:03 You know, I... I'm laughing about that. I was thinking about something, like, when she's talking to the Lord like that, and we we know that he already knows all the things. But don't you ever wonder go, this is gonna get21:12 good because I wanna hear their account.21:14 Like, do21:14 you ever just think, like, I already heard from the other person involved? Yes. Do you ever think about this?21:19 That's good.21:19 Because God's gonna be like, oh, well, I see that. Like, you know, okay. Like, I was just kind of sit... Sitting there thinking about, did you ever think what he thinks? Like, sometimes I think, am I just your comic21:30 relief? Because it's like, you know, I'm... You made me this way. If I'm just a hot mess some days, and I'm just like, lord. You know? And don't you just wonder what he thinks and yet he doesn't? He just knows us because21:41 he made us. Nothing is surprising to him. You know? But when we're specific in our prayers, like, the prayers that hit the target, like, I need this. Like, if you are in lack right now, you21:53 know, you know, just tell him your need. He already knows, but but he wants... You know, we don't have to be all, you know, self sufficient trying to figure things out. You know, so many times we just sow into that need.22:05 Just just pray something specific and then maybe just go sow into the very need that you have. If you're in lack, just go sow a seed. It could be super small, but just just... That22:17 is so... It's like whatever that is, it's like it breaks that yoke, and it can, you know, allow for for God to move in the... Whatever area that you need. Be so22:28 specific about what you need. Like, the... Be targeted. Like like like, just pray, like, this is what... You know, I have a child. Lord, you know this child. You made this child. They are22:40 not serving you. I pray right now in the name of Jesus that they will have a Jesus encounter, that you will show up to them, that there would be... That life would be transformed and, you know, you just start being so22:52 specific about what it is you need. And you say, Lord, I don't know how I'm gonna meet my bills this week... This month. I don't know. God, I... There's not enough to go around. And I know that that's very, these times23:03 right now, this economy is very, very hard on a lot of people. But when you go to God with that, he knows he knows you're trying, he knows you're struggling, you know, and and he's got everything you need. And he23:15 said he will never let the righteous be begging bread, that he will supply all of your needs. But ask him. Go to the Lord and ask. We have not because we ask not. Be so23:27 specific with him, and then thank him. Thank him for what's coming. I thank you that your word is truth. I thank you that you watch over your word to perform it because the Bible says that. He watches over his word.23:39 So pray specifically and pray the scriptures, you know, like you were just saying the Lord's prayer. You can pray like Psalm 91, Psalm 23, and you can go line by line23:51 and personalize it and pray it over yourself, over your family, over your needs. Pray the word. There's nothing better than the word of God speaking God's word24:02 back to him over your circumstances, over every need. And then he's faithful to perform it because he watches over his word, and and he will do an amazing work because24:14 you have spoken what his promises were. And God's not a man that should lie. He's going to honor those prayers that you have prayed, especially when you're praying according to his will24:26 and his word, which is his his word. You could pray that.24:30 That is his will. Right. Well, let's pray God's word right now. Yes. Lord, I thank you. I... We come into agreement. Your word says 1 will send 1000 to flight and 224:41 10000. So everyone who's praying with 9 and 9 right now, we all come into agreement that God... That you are the king of kings and the lord of lords. You are Yahweh, he who made all things to24:53 be. So that means we are not coming to a powerless god. We are coming to the almighty, the all powerful god. And we ask you right now, we ask you for children,Praying the Word with Bold Agreement 25:05 the prodigals, to come back to to you, lord. We ask you, father, that you will deliver and save people out of addiction. We pray that you will restore marriages, God.25:17 We pray, God, that cancer will be healed right now. We pray, God, that ALS will be healed right now, Lord. We pray father that God that those who are dealing with intestinal25:29 issues, those who are deaf, those who are blind, Lord, is anything too difficult for you? Your word says nothing is too difficult for for you. God is... There...25:40 That that God... With God, all things are possible. And, Lord, we believe you. And so, God, we cry out to you right now. We pray, God, for Red Sea moments all across the world,25:52 and we thank you for this, Lord. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray.25:57 Amen. So powerful. Thank you for watching our broadcast today. We know that God loves you and he hears your prayers. If you need some some prayer...
