God's Loving Kindness Saves Us 0:06 Let's go to Galatians chapter 5. Today, we're gonna continue our wonderful series through the fruit of the spirit. We're talking0:18 these 9 weeks, examining each of the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit and how the spirit produces these great fruits within our0:30 lives. This weekend, I had an opportunity to be with my friend Robert Morgan at the Smoky Mountain Bible conference, and he made0:41 mention of the fruit of the spirit in his session, and it really it really stood out to me. I I just thought, what a wonderful way of saying it. He said,0:53 you know, the fruit of the spirit is really a picture of Jesus. We believe the fruit of the spirit is the personality of God. And Rob said,1:05 if you were if someone were to ask you, describe Jesus with only 9 words, how would you describe1:17 him? Well, he's love, isn't he? He's joy. He's peace. He's patience. Jesus is kindness.1:30 He is goodness. He is faithfulness. He is gentleness, and he is self control. It is a portrait, it's an image, it's a1:41 picture of who Jesus is and who you and I ought to be and who we ought to be becoming.1:53 Robert talked about as he has grown and matured in his life and faith, talked about how the fruits of the spirit have grown in him. He's far2:05 more patient at 70 some years old than he was at 30 some years old. The fruit of patience has grown. And so it should be in our own2:17 lives. These fruits should be ever increasing, becoming abundant in us so that we may give them to others. Well, Galatians chapter 52:29 verses 22 23 is where we find the 9 fruits of the spirit. So far in this series, we have covered love. We have covered joy, peace, patience.2:41 Today, I want to dive into the fifth fruit of kindness. I want you to go with me now to Titus chapter 3. We're gonna look at verses 4 and 5,2:54 and then we'll end our day going to Ephesians chapter 4 verse 32. Titus chapter 3. I want today,3:06 I simply want to show you how God uses kindness. I wanna show you how3:18 God was kind toward us, which is quite beautiful, and how because of the kindness that we have experienced3:30 from God, it ought to cause us to be kind toward others. And I'm gonna show you that biblically. I'm gonna3:42 show you what kindness is, but first I'm gonna show you what it is not. Look at Titus chapter 3 verse number 4.3:54 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God, our savior appeared. Oh, I love that. Do you remember when it first4:05 appeared in your life? Can you remember the change from going from darkness into God's light? Can you remember the transformation4:17 that came into you where things that you used to do that never bothered you, all of a sudden they began to bother you? Things4:29 that you could care less about in your old life, now all of a sudden you're drawn to the things of God and the4:41 things of God hold a beauty to you that you never saw before. Friends, that's when the goodness that's when the loving kindness has appeared to us from God.4:53 Amen. And if you know what I'm talking about, then you're gonna know what verse 4 really means. When the goodness and the loving kindness of God, our5:05 savior, appeared, watch verse 4 say, he saved us. How many here today you've been saved?5:16 You've been born again. And you know what that means? If you are born again, oh it drives me nuts. I'll listen to a sitcom or some kind of, you5:28 know, television thing, whatever, and they'll mock and they'll make fun of born again Christians. And that's a term that our culture does not like. But5:40 let me tell you what's on the line. If you're not born again, all you have is your old dead nature. But if you're born again, you've been given the nature of your5:52 father. That means you can become a loving person, a joyful person, a peaceful person. Hey, a patient person,6:04 a kind person. Amen. Why? Because you now because you're born again.6:16 God is now your heavenly father means you have his nature. You share in that divine nature of God that you're not who you used to be6:29 because now you're born again. Religion has never transformed anyone. Only being born again is what transforms6:40 people's lives. Amen? It's been said before and it's a good saying. If you've been born once, you will die twice.6:53 You'll die a physical death, and you'll die a spiritual death where you will forever be separated from God. But if you're born twice,7:05 you'll only die once and you'll forever be with God. So we see, excuse me, so we see verse7:17 4, what happens when the goodness of God, the loving kindness of God comes into our life? What's the outcome? He saves us. Romans chapter 2 verse7:29 4 teaches, it is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance. So look at the contrast in7:41 now, chapter 3 verse 5 of Titus. It says, he saved us not because of works of our own righteousness,7:53 things done in our own righteousness. See that's why today, my friends, if you're someone that your mentality is, hey, I'm a good person, therefore, I'm good with God. This verse8:05 is in stark contrast to your thinking. It's actually opposite. You cannot be saved by your own good works.8:17 You can't be saved by your own goodness or righteousness. It has to be the goodness and the mercy of God. Amen. He saved us not according to the8:29 works in us by righteousness, but how? But according to his own mercy. Praise God. It is the sheer8:41 mercy of God that brings us into salvation and not ourselves. And how did God do it? Romans 2, 4, his kindness8:54 led us into repentance. So many people think that it was their own choice. They think that it was their decision.9:06 It was their time. Some people have never come to the Lord because they don't think it's their time friends. None of that is true.9:18 The only thing that leads us to repentance is the very kindness of God that, and nothing else. Some years ago, I worked with a family.9:32 A wife and some wonderful children had separated from the husband. The husband was by all accounts a good man, but he was not a godly man,9:43 he wasn't saved, he didn't know the Lord, he didn't have any desire for anything of God. And he lived quite a selfish life. And9:56 by the point that I got involved, the wife and children had already separated and moved out, and he was living on his own. And10:08 I began praying with and counseling them and just trying to walk through life with them, but he had 0 desire for God, none. And I10:20 remember 1 day I remember she called me and she said, Pastor Chad, my husband is extremely sick right now and he10:31 has asked me to bring him medicine. What do you think I should do? She had called her therapist before calling10:43 me, and the therapist told her something. I don't remember what it, but she basically said, let him suffer. You've made your bed10:56 lie in it, teach him a lesson. She said, what do you think I should do? I said, well, my opinion11:08 is it's God's kindness that leads us to repentance. Perhaps it would be your kindness that led him to repentance. What if God11:19 used it to soften his heart? I just don't think you can ever go wrong treating others the way God has treated you. I said, if I were you, I would11:31 choose kindness. It's exactly what she did. And within that year, her husband was right here in this church, born again, living for the glory11:43 of God. Amen? And God restored their home. I wanna tell you what kindness is, biblical kindness. But first, let me11:55 tell you what it is not. Kindness in our western thinking, in our western way, our culture, our society, When I thinkBiblical Kindness: Useful and Tested in Trials 12:07 of kindness, I think of simply politeness. If I'm kind to someone, I'm courteous. I'm nice. I'm polite.12:19 It may be the server that brings my food. I'll be nice to that server. It may be the clerk checking out my things or maybe I'm at the bank and it's a teller12:31 and I'm courteous and I'm nice and I'm polite. I may hold a door open for someone and that's being nice, but is that kind? Not biblically.12:46 The Bible word for kindness actually has a deep deep meaning to it and you know how the Bible defines kindness? This blows12:58 my mind. Here's the word, useful. That makes me scratch my head. Useful. Kindness13:10 in a way that God can use you. Well, how in the world does that happen?13:22 I've had a great struggle over these last few weeks because I had been threatened with a lawsuit. I felt like Donald Trump,13:38 but a group in Southern California has threatened to Sue me. Because when I first went blind, I had some volunteers and interns that13:51 I would write an article and or devotion, and then they would take an image and match the image to the article on the website and unbeknownst to us. And14:03 by accident back in 20 22, we used a copyrighted image. And now these people are suing14:15 me for copyright infringement to the tune of 15000 dollars14:28 Biblical kindness does not mean that you're simply courteous, it doesn't mean that you're simply nice or that you're polite. It actually14:40 means that you're able to be good to people, it means that you're able to be kind to people who don't deserve it. You know how so many Christians are14:51 today and if we're not careful. 1 of my favorite bible teachers, Warren Wiersbe, who's in heaven with the Lord now, he talked about Christians15:03 who think they're bearing fruit, but in reality, you know what it is? Fake. It's plastic. It's15:15 wax fruit. There's nothing real there. There's nothing of substance there. Some of you think that you're good with God because you're a15:27 good person. That's fake. Some of you think that you're kind today because when you go to Hobby Lobby, you're nice.15:39 That's fake. Let me tell you how you know you're bearing the right fruit of kindness is when someone wrongs you.15:51 When someone does not deserve your kindness, that's when you find out whether you're fake or not. Thursday morning,16:04 I was taking a shower and the Lord reminded me of something. Back in 2009, Sadie and I, well, I'm sorry. This would have been 2010.16:18 We went in o 9 and we went in 10. Sadie and I took a group to Tijuana, Mexico. Sadie was 10. She was, about 7 months pregnant with Piper.16:30 And, so she was already uncomfortable going on a trip pregnant, but we went and we took about 15 with us.16:43 We stopped at a little taco stand to eat dinner our first night there, just something quick, and we were all exhausted. We got there late, and our little 1516:55 passenger van that belonged to the ministry, was no more than 20 feet from us. I mean, I could see it, and we finished our meal and went back to the van,17:07 and guess what? Thieves had popped the lock, and for the first time in my life traveling I had something stolen from me. All the countries I've ever been to, I've never been17:19 robbed, I've never been mugged, nothing like that, never lost anything, never had anything taken. And now all of a sudden my bag has been stolen. And what was in that bag was17:31 3500 dollars worth of things. I had my laptop, I had my Bible, several books, I had 1500 dollars cash that17:42 was to buy beans and rice for a very poor community that we were gonna minister in, but worst of all, it had Sadie's passport, and she's 717:54 months pregnant. And I said, honey, if they do not let you across the border, our church will support you and the baby as full time missionaries.18:08 We'll send money every month. I said, I'll even send you Marlboro cigarettes. I mean, stuff you could really sell for a big profit down here. She did not18:20 find me funny at all. I thought I was very whimsical, but she did not. So they said, well, you know, in order to get across the border and do what you're gonna need to do, you18:32 have to go to the police station. By this point, it's midnight, and I don't know if you have ever been to the Tijuana police station at midnight, but if you haven't, you should. It's an18:44 experience all of its own. And we go and we fill out a police report. And, you know, I'm thinking to myself, you know, all this stuff is gone. That18:56 1500 dollars is gone. That laptop with so much work is gone. That favorite Bible I have is gone. Everything's gone. And we fill19:08 out the police report. We get back in the taxi, and it's gonna be a 45 minute ride back to the place we're staying. And I'm already tired. I'm already exhausted. It's19:19 probably 1 AM at this point. The Lord speaks to me. And the Lord said, I want you to forgive them. Well, I can forgive them.19:33 The Lord said, now I want you to bless them. What? The Lord said, give everything to them. Excuse me?19:46 It took me a good 20 minutes of arguing with the Lord. Give it to them, and you know what the Lord told me? Listen to this, the Lord said, Somebody cannot steal what you're19:58 willing to give away. Bless them with it in Jesus name. I said, you want me just to just to bless20:10 them and give it to the Lord said, be generous. And you know what I did in that taxi? I said, you know what, Lord? I don't own anything.20:22 Everything I have is yours. That's kingdom money, that's a kingdom laptop, that's kingdom stuff. Lord, I tell you what, Lord, I take it now and I give it to20:34 them. I release it to them and I bless them with it in the name of the Lord Jesus. And may you bless them, may you convict them, may you save them,20:46 and I began praying for them that God would call them to preach. Thieves had stole a pastor's Bible, and who knows, maybe God did.21:00 But I tell you what happened. By the time I got back to where we were staying, all the weight, all the frustration had lifted off of me, and I slept better that night than I've ever slept.21:12 Why? Because I released it. I let it go. The next morning, Sadie's mom calls, and she's telling her what happened, and she said, let me talk21:24 to Chad. And I got on the phone, she said, you need to turn that into your homeowners insurance. I thought that's the silliest thing I've ever heard. I'm out of the country. She21:36 said, no, you need to call them right now, call them. I called and did you know my homeowners covered me up to 100 miles south of the border? Do you know they21:48 paid and reimbursed every penny that was stolen? Amen? But see, that wasn't the victory. That22:00 wasn't where the battle was won. You know where the battle was won? Someone had wronged me, and I didn't let it affect me.22:12 I gave them freely what Jesus has given me. So fast forward to Thursday, I'm sick, I don't feel well, I've got this stress22:24 of a 15000 dollar lawsuit, and the Friday before we were in Terry Whitson's discipleship class, and 1 of our precious22:36 little Filipino saints, Mikaela, she came up to me in that beautiful accent and she said, pastor Chad, she said, we're going to take this before the courts of heaven.22:49 We're going to talk to the judge about this. Oh, I needed that, because you know how I know when I'm sideways with people is when I have imaginary conversations, and I had already had about 523:01 imaginary conversations in front of judges pleading my case, My book agents are actual attorneys, and I23:13 sent everything to them, 21 page document, and they read it all, and they text me and they said, Chad, did you use the image? I said,23:25 yes, by accident. They said, how long did you use the image? I said, since 22 apparently, but by accident. They said, so you're saying you did use it? Yes, by accident.23:38 And they said, well, unfortunately, it's not going to matter. You're going to have to pay. And they said, you can take it to court, but what you're going to pay in attorney fees23:50 and court costs, and all of that, you're going to have to pay whatever they tell you. And listen, I don't have to tell you, you know how hard we work to raise money for Awaken to24:02 Grace. I mean, we work hard at it. That's kingdom money. That's not my money. That's kingdom money. And it just killed me, the thought24:14 of giving it to a money grab, you know? This thing was by accident. Well, Thursday, the Lord spoke to me. And the24:25 Lord said, you remember those thieves in Tijuana? The Lord said, you remember what you did? Yeah. The Lord said, do you remember how it came back to24:37 you? Yeah. The Lord said, I want you to do the same thing this time. The Lord said, when that attorney writes back, no matter what they say, I24:49 want you to give it, and I want you to give it generously, and I want you to give it graciously because, Chad, it's not even yours to begin with.25:01 Bless them with it. I know they're trying to harm you, but bless them with it, whatever it is. So right there, I determined in25:13 my heart right there whatever it is, that's that's what we'll do. I get to work and days going by after lunch, McColl says, Chad, I have the greatest news in all the25:25 world. She said, they dug into you, they found out you're blind, They knew that this was an accident. They said given the circumstances, our clients decided to drop the matter altogether.25:37 Amen. But again that's not where the battle was won nor lost.25:50 The battle was won when I chose that whoever was trying to wrong me, I was gonna give them the fruit of kindness.26:02 I can be kind to somebody I don't know, but that shallow It's when someone wronged you, that's when you find out.26:15 Are you fake or are you real? Ephesians chapter 4, I'll finish here. Ephesians chapter 4 verse number 32.Kindness: The Path to Forgiveness 26:28 It's such wonderful verses. See, a lot, there there are some of you, and I26:39 know this in my heart, that you want to forgive someone who's wronged you. You really do. You truly you don't know how, but you want to. You you don't know how to make it happen,26:51 but if you could, you would. And today, you're saying, I feel lost because I don't know how to forgive. Well, what we don't understand is that there's a process to it. There's there27:03 are steps to it. Look what it says verse 32, be kind to 1 another, tender27:16 hearted, forgiving 1 another as God has forgiven you in Christ. Do you see it doesn't say forgive someone then try to be kind then try27:28 to be tender? No, it's reverse order. It says be kind and then be tender and then forgiveness comes. You know where you gotta start brothers and27:40 sisters? You gotta start with this fruit of kindness and only God can produce it in you. And when God begins to produce it, your life becomes useful,27:52 and God can use that kindness to bring others into repentance. Some of you are trying to jump straight to forgiveness, but you're bypassing28:05 kindness. You're bypassing tenderheartedness. No, go back to the basics. Some years ago when my daughter Emmy is getting ready to turn28:17 13, but back when she was in preschool, we had her at this Christian school and they were teaching her Bible verses and they would teach out of the King James. And28:29 1 day they taught her this, be ye kind to 1 another. And me and Sadie got into some argument. I don't remember. It's probably her fault, but I don't remember.28:41 And, and we're arguing or whatever. Boy, Emmy Emmy just gets right there, and she goes, be28:54 ye kind to 1 another. This is the cutest thing ever. And whatever we were arguing about, we just laughed. I mean, what can29:06 you do? This is the cutest thing. Are you kind to others? Are you kind to the people who mistreat29:17 you? So right now I want you to bow your head and close your eyes and here's what I want you to do today, I want you to ask the Lord to show you someone, bring someone to your29:29 mind, to your heart. And the question is not, do they deserve your kindness? That's not the question.29:41 Because you didn't deserve God's kindness. The question is, can you give them kindness? It may be a relative today.29:57 Friend that lied on you or in some way took advantage of you.30:21 Not what I'm saying. But I'm saying you're missing out on a piece. You're missing out on a freedom. You're missing out on30:33 a victory that you can be walking in today. That you're forfeiting right now. It may be a co worker who mistreats you,30:45 tries to make you look bad. It may be a neighbor. I don't know. But ask the Lord.30:56 Who would he have you show kindness to them. It may have you just sit on the text or a greeting31:08 card. Buy them a coffee. I don't know. Or it may just be in a different tone that you talk to them. But whatever it is, the Lord will show31:20 you. Just be obedient. Because the battle will not be won and lost by how the outcome is.31:32 The battle will be won or lost in your heart and in your mind as you determine how you're going to treat31:48 Father, I thank you for your loving kindness. I thank you God for this precious fruit that is able to grow in each of our lives. And I32:00 thank you God that's not shallow like cur courtesy or it's not just fake like niceness can be.32:14 No. There's a depth to it. A depth that you want to use and transform. Let us be just like you, Jesus.32:26 Oh, how kind you are. Let us be just like you. In Jesus' name we pray, and everyone said, amen.In this video 0:00 God's Loving Kindness Saves Us11:58 Biblical Kindness: Useful and Tested in Trials26:19 Kindness: The Path to Forgiveness
