Morning Prayer on Matthew 28:5-6

And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Matthew 28:5-6 · KJV

The prayer

Written prayer

Heavenly father when your angels appear to people they can be quite frightening. It’s hard to imagine being in the presence of a supernatural being. But this angel came to bring good news and calm the fear of the women with his compassion and kindness. I love that this angel knew that these women came seeking Jesus even though they knew he was crucified. He immediately said don’t be afraid, he is risen just as he said. In their sorrow and grief these women forgot what Jesus had told his followers and disciples. He told them several times in several ways that he had to die but would rise again to eternal glory. They didn’t understand the truth of what he said since everything Jesus said and did was new and strange to their limited comprehension. They had never seen so many miracles or heard someone speak about the kingdom of God with such authority and love. The angel must have been excited to show them the empty place where the Lord had been placed. SEE! He is risen! Just as he said! God is not a man that he would lie and what he said he will accomplish and bring to pass. He rose from the grave and led the way for all those who will come after him if they trust and believe. Jesus name, amen.
