The prayer
Written prayerThank you father that you see the true heart of fasting. My fasting is personal between you and me. It is not for me to appear super religious before men so they think I am some great Christian. That is a hypocritical religion that displeases you Lord. You want me to do just the opposite. You want me to go about my normal life with a smile on my face and keep my fasting private. If I make a show of fasting and put on an auster countenance and mourn in false humility you see right through that. I’ve already received my reward of being admired and looking spiritual before those who can’t see my heart and are deceived by my outward appearance. I’ve earned the praise of those I’ve deceived into thinking I am something more than I am not. When I am more focused on receiving the approval of God and not the applause of men, God will reward me openly. Fasting is the humbling of my soul in obedience to the almighty God and his word. It is a practice that causes my flesh to submit to the holy spirit so I can be empowered to do the works of Christ. Thank you that you have provided all that I need to rise above the works of darkness. In Jesus name, amen.
