“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”
Devotional
The word “hope” is powerful. Simeon, an older man that Luke described as just and devout, was promised by God that he would not die before He saw the Savior. Simeon hoped this his entire life—in fact, he expected it. And God fulfilled His promise.
Do you have this hope? Hope is not necessarily a “feeling,” as the world may define it. Biblical hope is a certainty that transcends our emotions. It’s waiting on a promise that God has given to us. Hope is not a dream or a wish; it is truth. So even though December 25 has passed, let’s stay close to Jesus to keep this hope in our hearts.
Prayer
Father, we thank you for Jesus. You interrupted history by His birth that changed the past and the future. We know that this baby came to die for us, that we might live with you forever. Thank you for blessing us with hope through your Holy Spirit!
