  5. 125The Odd Story Of An Old FoolThe Bible often interjects a mini-story into the “big story”.  This is why we love the deep end because we can get a little bit deeper into the structure of the Bible and the way the Bible narrates. People oftentimes have trouble understanding the Bible. In ancient Hebrew, the writing standard was to embed a story within a story—a personal story into the larger narrative. There are other stories in which we see this happen such as with Joseph where the story of Judah is interjected into the narrative. This is how the Hebrews tell stories.  They want to drive the point home to the reader.  They want to help you get in the story. Most people run from God because they put more trust in money than in God. God will always provide a voice or a shepherd (an "Abigail) to give you perspective when you are in His Flock.   8. 128How To Self-DestructToday we discuss the dangers of selfies, sharks, and a difficult topic: the topic of self-worship and how destructive it can be. The truth is the more we love ourselves the weaker we become. (1) Bad Religion: We want our religion to be self-serving and to actualize our self-imaginations. (2) Sin Kills: We have to be intentional about the theme of our lives or our lives will decide for themselves. (3) Isolation Hurts: You can’t be strong when you self-isolate. (4) Self Image: Being saved doesn’t make me a good person, it makes me a redeemed person who is being transformed into the image of Christ. We also discuss what the picture of King Saul begging the Amalekite to kill him means, the greek words chalepos and ekklesia, how King Saul saves Jabesh Gilead, and his failure to kill the Amalekite nation. The good news is we are made in God's image and Jesus came to redeem us and to bring us back to Him. We have the power of the Holy Spirit and victory in Jesus to guide us through!   9. 129The LORD Of Rock BottomSome of you have hit rock bottom or are very close to it. In David, we see something similar. After defeating Goliath, things in David’s life have spiraled down. He has lost his position in Israel, his wife, his peace and security, and the respect of the people. He has survived several assassination attempts, fought many battles, and now, after running and hiding from Saul for the last eight years, he has gotten kicked out of the Philistine army. He has officially lost everything. It would be easy for him to be angry at God and question why does God allow pain and suffering. (1) Doubt Faith: You are going to have moments in your life when you hit rock bottom and find yourself questioning the good of serving God. (2) Blame God: Don’t turn from God when things go wrong—He is your strength! (3) God is Good: What the devil steals, Jesus has come to redeem and replace! (4) Purpose of Suffering: Christian, you have a part to play in the Kingdom of God. In the Bible we also look at Abiathar. He was the sole surviving member of the priestly family of Nob who were all slain by King Saul. Abiathar has been in the position as David is now. He is the priestly help David needs in the midst of his tragedy.   10. 130The Battle WithinWe are in a battle with the sin nature. Little by little, the Holy Spirit is changing us. A Christian who is not eagerly seeking the Lordship of Jesus Christ over their life and using the weapons (the armor of God) He has provided is just waiting for shame to happen. Today we give you hope on how to win the battle within! In 2 Samuel chapter 2 with the account of Ashahel, we see the picture of the new beginning in the Christian’s life. When we first come to Christ, the battle is just beginning. We will all have to engage in battle and struggle with sin until the day we die. With King Saul representing our sinful nature, the best we can do is make "men of shame" (Ish-bosheth) king of our lives. It's an illustration of "when you let the sinful nature rule, it can only ever bring shame". We also examine the locations of the famous battle between the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel with the Pool of Gibeon, the Hill of Ammah, the cities of Hebron, and Ziklag and the biblical characters, Abner, Asahel, King David, King Saul, and King Ish-bosheth. Jesus Christ through His death, burial, and resurrection, provides for us the Holy Spirit. He has provided us with the weapons of weekly Sabbath worship, daily spiritual nourishment, regular community, and annual detachment from the world.   11. 131I Feel Like a Weak ChristianAt one time or another, whether we were newly saved or long-time Christians, we have all been weak. We want our lives to grow stronger but what does that really mean and how can we accomplish it? It is at the times when we are at our weakest that God is the strongest! The secret to Christian growth is learning to hold loosely to the things of this life so we can learn to move with God. Remember at every level there's another devil. This podcast will study 2 Samuel 3 and the impact that King David’s life choices of taking multiple wives and fathering multiple heirs. The podcast will also take a look at the story of Jeremiah, Abner’s slaying of Asahel during the Battle of Gibeon, and the Apostle Paul's Thorn.   12. 132The Masters Of Our DestructionThe struggle inside of each and every one of us is real. We are destructive by nature and tormented by our own desires. However, our flesh counts for nothing.  It is arrogant and subversive.  Our flesh is always going to make us do stupid things. The human condition is deeper and more corrupt than we can imagine. We need redemption because we are all sinners. In our study of the life of King David, we see that Baanah and Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the tribe of Benjamin believed they could save themselves through works righteousness, however, the text of 2 Samuel 4:2-3 makes it clear that this is impossible. We can't kill our own sin nature. We can't save ourselves. We don’t win this battle with the flesh by ourselves.  We need to trust Jesus.  He is not just our best friend, buddy, or advisor but He is Lord, King, and Shepherd over us. When He comes into our life, He will expose all that the Devil loves: division, destruction, and disorder and then pursue and conquer our hearts and change us from the inside, bringing us back into right relationship with God. In the same way that Joab and the army conquered Jerusalem from the inside through Warren’s Shaft in the City of David, Jesus takes over us from the inside as He takes up residence and starts to overrule our fleshly desires. Also, the latest victim of Cancel Culture really stinks but is he the real reason women are objectified? The U.S. is responsible for at least 60% of the world’s porn sites—about 428 million individual pages.  Can this estimated 97 billion dollar industry with more regular traffic than Netflix, Amazon, and Twitter combined ever be "canceled"?  In this episode, we will take a look at the sexual revolution, the sexualization of women, the pornography industry, Hugh Hefner, and Pepe Le Pew and their contribution to racism and misogynistic attitudes towards women and minorities. Cancel Culture is a moral high ground of posturing for those who have forgone the tenants of Scripture. It’s pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye when there is a log in your own. "Woke Supremacy" is a redefinition of sin and a reorientation around what is righteous, good, and pure. When we don’t identify the true cancer, we will inevitably treat the wrong ailment and society will successfully avoid what it desperately needs: redemption. We must never forget that it is only the Gospel that has the power to change human hearts Ask Yourself: (1) What are my motives behind my desires or my "good works"? (2) Is Christ is growing stronger and self is growing weaker in my life? (3) What battle am I trying to win on my own? (4) Under the New Covenant, Jesus’ obligation was to die for sins, bear the weight on the Cross, and be our Shepherd. Am I fulfilling my obligation to surrender and submit my life to Him?   14. 134Worship Makes The DifferenceWorship makes a difference in the life of a believer! We were created for worship and when we worship our Father-- particularly in times of pain or sorrow, we thwart the plans of the Devil. He was once the worship leader of heaven, the Morning Star who was cast down to Earth when he tried to usurp the authority of God. Mankind was formed in "enemy territory" to show that we have a joy that is not dependent upon circumstances but is unchanging like our God who Himself is unchanging. He is always good! Cancel Culture running rampant with the renaming of schools, the extended meaning of evergreen trees, and opposition to former President Barack Obama. The fact is Man was made for a perfect world but we don’t live in one. We are always trying to lay the blame on someone else for its' imperfections. Biblically we all know that the world is broken and man has failed. But Cancel Culture is that pharisaical spirit that says, "you’re the problem, not me and if we get rid of you, the world will be a better place." It’s the great cry of our hearts that Jesus taught us to pray with Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven... We want heaven on earth, yet we know it’s not here. You might ask yourself why religious persecution is also on the rise with the latest examples being Canadian Pastors Artur Pawlowski and James Coates? The answer is the Enemy. The god of this world hates the worship of God. He is so intimated by worship in the Church that he will do anything to silence it. We have to watch out for hatred. It is hatred in the human heart that pits us against each other and leads us to look for someone who will lead us to defeat the "bad people". As Christians, we are not enemies of any one person or any group of people. We cannot be because we were enemies of God and He made peace with us through the blood of His Son. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. God is distinct and holy. He is not a lover, a marriage partner, or a friend. God is the Sustainer and Creator who is worthy of worship. We have to bring theology and worship back together again rooted in God’s Word. When we do that, we experience the 7 Blessings of Worship. Worship properly ordered brings God’s presence into our lives and when we are in His presence, we are blessed. The first step is to acknowledge that our sins need to be washed away through the blood of Jesus Christ. Only then can we joyfully surrender our lives to God through giving, singing, and serving. The world will not approve of our decisions, however, when we worship God in holiness and truth according to who He is and not who we want Him to be, a prophetic atmosphere is created which empowers us to do greater things for His glory. When we exalt God, He expands our life. He lifts us up and protects us. WORSHIP makes the DIFFERENCE: don’t neglect it, don’t dishonor it, you need it! Scriptures Studied: Luke 10:18; 2 Samuel 6; 1 Chronicles 15:13; 1 Chronicles 15:26; 1 Chronicles 16:1-7; 1 Chronicles 25:2; 1 Peter 3:3-4; Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:10; 1 Corinthians 14:1; 1 Timothy 4:14; Hebrews 12:28-29; Matthew 15:8-9 ; John 4 ; Ephesians 1:4; Matthew 5:16 Symbolism: (1) David’s wearing a “Linen Ephod” meant he was dressed like a priest. It is an example of how we are also to be priests who bring people back to God. (2) In the ancient world to be barren was to be disgraced to the ultimate degree. Michal’s barrenness is God’s judgment upon her for both her actions and spirit. She was an idol worshiper of the line of Saul and despised David for worshiping God.
