Advocating for Parental Rights and Education Reform 0:00 Now in kindergarten, they're expected to know all this stuff so they're struggling with reading because they're not focused on that anymore. They're focused on all the climate change. They're putting that0:12 in everything. They have climate change. My son had climate change in French class and we're opted out of all of that. So the school actually called me and they said, Well, Bert said, he can't do this lesson.0:24 He's not allowed. And I'm like, Well, what is it? Climate change. I'm like, In French class? Yes, he's correct. Get him out of there. Like, you know, but so there's a huge difference. It used to just be be a good0:35 person, learn how to socialize with your friends, play outside. I mean that was kindergarten, right? And now it's ABCs, now it's like sit at your desk for 8 hours a day, don't question what I tell you,0:47 this is how you have to think, it's not or what to think, it's not how to think, it's what to think.1:31 Down to the river.1:35 Hey, everybody. Time for another episode of Sheepdog and Shepherd. We are up here in the People's Republic of Connecticut. I've got my my good friend filling in as a cohost today. Why don't you tell him all who you are?1:46 Yeah. I'm Vaughn Klim. I'm the, director of consulting at Force Science, and it's great to be here again with Kyle, and looking forward to meeting and getting to know Alex today.1:55 Alright. So you and I connected by, like, total accident, through our friends over at, a nonprofit that that's run by general Flynn and and his sister. So why don't you tell everybody who you are?2:07 I am Alexandra Bauer. I'm a mom of 3. I'm from New Jersey, and I run, Bergen County Moms for Liberty, but also the state team for Moms for Liberty. And we just defend kids and2:19 parental rights.2:21 Yeah. We hit it off pretty much immediately after that first phone call. We, we're working on an event together. It is a Big Blue Bash at Mar a Lago on Veterans Day, and she was able to help us secure the live2:33 entertainment who we'll be announcing soon. And then I learned about what you're doing with Moms for Liberty and just said, man, you gotta you gotta be on this show. This is awesome. So how'd you get involved in that?2:41 What are you guys doing?2:43 Well, I feel like I've kind of always been, you know, for parental rights or maybe I should say for freedom. Right? Because, I myself got sent to a pretty bad boarding2:55 school. There was nobody to advocate for me. There was physical abuse, sexual abuse. Thankfully, they get shut down. It was in Maine. And so I've always had this like nobody's ever gonna3:07 touch my kid me or my kids ever. So, I definitely, you know, have that sort of extra helicopter parent about me, but I think you need that these days. We grew up in the 80s. It was definitely a fun3:19 time, but that's not the day today, right? Like our kids can't go running down the street. There are predators everywhere, and so we really have to watch out for them. So, I never really noticed too much with my older3:30 daughter. I have have 3 kids. Ashley is 24, Sadie and Bear are 11 and 9, and they are, you know, the light of my life. I love them so much. I'm not I actually think they keep me out of trouble.3:43 So, you know, God knows what he's doing, But, I just, you know, they're just like the most dynamic people and I can't imagine anybody ever hurting them or or doing3:55 anything to them. And that's my job. My job is to be there, to look out for that, to know that, to think ahead, and to, you know, kind of stop anything from happening if I can. So, where does that come in?4:06 Again, oldest 1 didn't notice it too much in school. It was when Sadie and Bear were in kindergarten and preschool for COVID that there was this virtual learning4:19 and I'm like, what are they saying? What's going on? Like, why are they talking to you that way? Why are they yelling at you for looking out the window? Like just this, you know, and we actually have a wonderful school.4:29 So that was kind of, you know, shocking for me and eye opening. And then the masks, you know, they wanted to mask the kids when they went back to school. And I was like, first of all, we didn't mask this entire time. I'm4:40 not sticking this thing on my kid to go to school. So the advocacy for that sort of came then because I wrote this whole, you know, letter to the school saying my kids are not4:52 gonna wear masks, and they're like, that's not good enough. What do you mean that's not good enough? I'm the parent. You're not gonna tell me what I can and cannot do with my kid. So I had seen something on TV for Moms5:02 for Liberty and I was like, well, maybe these ladies can help me out. And I started a chapter. I hired, a great lawyer, Sheldon Krasick. He actually helps, like, anybody that was, wrongfully5:14 terminated for not taking the vaccine. And funny enough, he looked at my letter and he's like, You don't need me. What you wrote is perfect. He's like, This is great. I don't even want to take your money. I was like,5:26 No, no, I'm not playing around. Just believe it the way it is and sign your name at the bottom. And that's what he did and 2 days later they were in school without masks on. So I was like, Okay, I need to learn how this5:37 all works. I need the tools. I need to educate myself. You know, I need to know the laws, how the schools were work. How do I not know these things as a parent? So that's kind of what got me started.5:48 So you let me make sure. You you mentioned something earlier, and I think for a lot of the audience members, they know how they grew up in school.5:55 Mhmm.5:56 And but they don't have kids maybe, or they're not they're not having kids of that same that same, generation that you're dealing with. So what did you notice? I mean, obviously, the mask, we all we all get that big6:06 change. What did you notice about growing up, I think you said in the eighties, what our what maybe our school experience was like with what you were actually seeing? Because it went beyond the masks.6:16 It did go beyond that. So when I went to school, we knew nothing about the sexual, you know, preference of our teachers, right? I mean, I did actually know that my kindergarten teacher had a6:27 husband because he was very sweet and dropped her off lunch every day. But if it wasn't for that, I would have no idea who they were married to, anything about their home life because that wasn't what you6:39 did in school back then. In kindergarten, you learned, how to tie your shoe and basic reading, right? Now, in kindergarten, they're expected to know all6:51 this stuff so they're struggling with reading because they're not focused on that anymore. They're focused on climate change. They're putting that in everything. They have climate change. My son had climate change in7:02 French class and we're opted out of all of that. So the school actually called me and they said, Well, Bert said, he can't do this lesson. He's not allowed. And I'm like, Well, what is it? Climate7:14 change. I'm like, In French class? Yes, he's correct. Get him out of there. Like, you know, but so there's a huge difference. It used to just be be a good person, learn how to socialize with your friends,7:26 play outside. I mean that was kindergarten, right? And now it's ABCs. Now it's like sit at your desk for 8 hours a day. Don't question what I tell you. This is how you have to think. It's not or what to think. It's7:38 not how to think. It's what to think. Right? So how they're teaching them is different. And this common core stuff, I mean, I'm horrible at math, so I'll give it to my husband.7:50 But, like, this is really bad. And I'd be like, Well, this is the answer. But, you know, Sadie would be like, Well, but mommy, I can't do it that way. You have to do it this way. I'm like, It makes no sense. If the7:59 answer's right, who cares? She goes, No, I'll only get half right because I didn't do it this way. It's like they're trying to make our kids stupid. You know? So, I mean, that's just, you know, we walked home, you8:11 know, in, I would say, third grade when I grew up. Obviously, nobody would really do that now. I think fifth or sixth grade is, like, when the kids start. And that's I don't even let my kids do that, but, like, some of8:22 them start. I mean, it's just very different. We were taught to be independent. They're not taught to be independent now. You know, they're just taught to sit down, be quiet, listen to us, don't think on your own,8:34 only do as we say. Indoctrination.8:37 Yep. Well, we also see, you know, skyrocketing levels of, diagnosis for ADD and ADHD. Personally, I think that if you put a little boy who's developing testosterone in8:49 a chair for 8 hours and don't let him run around outside and release some of that energy, I I think that, sure, anyone's going to have what what you would call ADD because we're we're strapping these kids down. I9:01 mean, we pulled our kids out of public school a couple of years ago and we homeschooled them. And it is a well rounded experience where they actually get to release energy and and learn about everything from all of9:13 the basics that they're learning in school, but on top of that, homesteading and socialization. And in Florida, we have an incredible homeschool scholarship program that's available. So we9:25 applied. We got it for the 3 older kids, and my wife homeschooled. The youngest is too young. And we got, like, 25000 dollars that you can use for the 3 of them combined that you can use for curriculum and books and and,9:37 dance and Taekwondo and social experiences. And it's it's incredible. But, you're right. All of that started because you had parents who were advocating for their kids and who said enough is enough. I'm I'm sick of9:49 the the woke. You shared a story downstairs about, what you blew up onto a poster board and had the cops called on you for. Let's let's share that with you all.10:01 So, New Jersey has this wonderful bill that unfortunately passed called the freedom to read bill, and it basically allows, pornography in schools. I mean, that's really what it's10:13 allowing. They will write it so it doesn't read that way, but if you actually read the bill, you will see that that's what it's doing. And it allows the teaching staff and the librarian10:25 to, it shields them from any legal repercussions from showing this to the kids. So, in the state of New Jersey, obscenity under 18, you cannot knowingly show a child any sexual material, right,10:37 as an adult to a minor under 18. Well, this gives them the exemption. They're allowed to. I mean, not only allowed to, but they're they're told to, right? And if you don't, you may face losing your10:49 job. So even the teachers that are wonderful and are like, I'm not doing this, they're not telling the state that. Even in our own town, there's a,11:01 you know, the sexual curriculum and like we're just not doing it. Cause you don't want to get in trouble with the state but nobody wants to teach kids inappropriate things. So they feel like they're in this in, you know,11:12 rock and a hard place. And they're like, Well, if we get fired who knows what kind of teacher you're going to get next? They're probably going to push it. But at the same time we're telling everybody no you just if we11:21 all stand together and we all say no and everybody pulls their kids out of school well guess what's going to change? You know they want that tax money for those kids. So we have to we have to stand11:33 up. You know, I hate to say this, but everybody needs to grow a set and really just say this is not going to happen to my children, I'm not going to put up with this, and we're not going to allow it. So we, there11:45 was probably 150 of us with that mentality and we went down to Trenton and we went to testify against this bill. And I had, we have 17 disgusting books in New11:57 Jersey that we know of there might be more but right now it's 17. And we have this whole list and it says the name of the book and what's in it and what page and it's like very thorough. We took the 4 worst ones and we12:09 blew it up and it was very, graphic, you know, showing sexual, you know, positions and things like that. And the youngest rated book was for an 8 year old.12:21 And, we, actually it was funny because when we were trying to figure out how to, have it, printed, we said, well where are we gonna go because kids run the Staples printing12:32 department, right? But thankfully somebody knew somebody that had like the big printer. So we got it done and we covered it in trash bags and we carried it into the Capitol so like no kids on the way saw it.12:44 And we're in, you know, we're testifying and it's all adults, right? And you have the assembly in front of you and we unveiled them and turned them around so the assembly saw and within like 2 or 312:56 minutes cops came over and they were saying, We were just asked to have you remove that, it's inappropriate, you can't show that here. Adults, right? So I said, Sir, you13:08 know, this is part of our testimony and you know this doesn't belong in schools. Well, I guess where the cops were they didn't see what was on it and I was like, Can I show it to you? So I turned it around he goes, What13:19 is that? I'm like, This is an elementary school. He was like, That's in all of our schools? And I said, Yes. He goes, Hold on. He went and spoke to the other cops. He spoke to the assembly. He came back. We told them13:30 that you're allowed to have it. It's part of it. We don't want that in our kids' schools either.13:34 That's outstanding.13:35 Yeah. It was very good. Unfortunately, it did pass because we have a tyrant governor, but, we're hoping to get that back out.13:42 Well, and same thing with Connecticut.13:43 It's Yeah.13:44 You know, a super Democrat majority, and they they passed a law requiring tampon and maxi pad dispensers in the boys' elementary school bathrooms. I think this this world has gone insane. There's no common sense13:56 anymore. 10 years ago, we knew that there was a big push towards the left in colleges. Yeah. And then it was, like, 20 20 hit, and everybody went into lockdown. And all of a sudden, it's like they saw14:08 the opportunity to go hard after a younger audience and said, you know, we we run the show now. We're gonna do whatever we want. And I think that it was actually the those lockdowns and the remote learning and14:19 everything that a lot of parents started waking up going, wait, what? What? That's why there were schools who said parents are not allowed to be in the background. At least in Connecticut, parents cannot be in the14:30 background or in the room while we're educating your child on Zoom. Well, gee, what what exactly are you hiding? Now I'm going to be there, and I'm gonna record it. So that was a that was a real wake up moment.Faith, Family, and the Role of God in Education 14:42 Let's, let's talk about another, study program that you're doing because I think that this is super impactful. Okay. The Bible study. Okay, I figured it's just for you.14:51 So, yes, I run a Bible club in our elementary school. It's the navigators program. It's really a wonderful program. We it was in our school many years ago and then of course when the woke stuff happened15:03 they weren't actually allowed in there anymore. So we figured out, I mean now I've been doing this for a few years, now I can read you know like law and be like actually, we can and you can't tell me I can't do15:15 that. So we've had this is gonna be the third year coming up, and we started with 4 kids. We had, I think it was 16 last year and there's more this year, so it's really great. And it's really the15:27 kids loving to, you know, learn, about the Bible and God and Jesus and, but like on their own terms, right? They don't have to go to church, which is wonderful and there's15:39 so many different churches, but you know I'll hear it from kids like, Oh, I have to sit there and I have to be quiet. And they're really, they're a lot of them aren't getting anything out of it. If they're not like a CCD15:49 program or something like that. So we gave them the opportunity to stay up for school and be with us and it's it is project based learning. So we find a lesson and then we do an activity and this way they really, you16:00 know, sometimes they'll even put on like a play or something to really like understand and they love that and that they're different characters and things like that. So, it's really wonderful and the kids, I don't even16:12 have to put the word out. The kids talk to their friends and they're like, Do you want to come to the Bible Club? I'll be, Yeah, I do. Let's go. I heard it's fun. So it's really a good time. So I think anything that's16:21 positive, you know, any club after school, right, that's that's in a positive light. But obviously this is going to make them really understand what's going on in their life and why and who they can turn16:33 to. And so I think it's 1 of the most important.16:36 There's there's been a lot of themes with the people we've talked to, and I've watched some of these interviews that they have different roles of church and different roles of Jesus and different roles of God influencing16:46 their decisions throughout life. And I think you hit on 1 really important that you're introducing these kids early so that they can start making their own decisions. There's not indoctrination from the school that16:57 you're allowing to take place. And it doesn't sound like you're trying to do indoctrination, but it sounded like more it was really important for you to say, look. We're gonna introduce you to topics, and we're gonna let17:07 you take that where you take it rather than having it forced on you. Is that is that fair17:12 to you? We're teaching them not what to think, but how to think and giving them the tools, like, hey, if you're having a bad day, this is you can turn to him. Like, you know, actually, it's really funny. Sadie17:24 has a friend, and she's awesome. Whatever Sadie's having Sadie's 11. Right? It's like the world ends some days, right? It's like pre pre pre teen thing. And she'll say, you know, they're very they're really great17:36 kids. They're very open and they communicate with each other wonderfully and they're very, positive with 1 another. But it's funny because she'll she always sends her Bible quotes. She'll be like, Ah, Dylan,17:47 this is bothering. Dylan's like, I have something perfect for that. And she like, so Sadie's learning more from her friend because of that. So it's just so interesting. You know, if you give them these17:59 positive tools, they'll use them, right? But we don't want to teach them, you know, how to think, but like, yeah, like how to not what to think, but how to think, right? So we want to18:11 give them the tools and they will do that themselves. So it also correlates back to school. If you do that in school, you know, they're gonna be great learners. They're gonna want to learn. They're gonna be excited about18:23 learning. These kids right now are not excited because everything that they're if they think of something that's not, like, directly in the workbook or they're like, no. That's not it. This is the answer. No. How about18:35 we talk about how you saw that? Totally. You know?18:38 I'm sure, if if she hasn't already, my oldest daughter will probably give you both a cross necklace because that's that's what she does. I know. I didn't get it. But it's funny because we we grew up Catholic. Right? 3918:49 years being a Catholic. And then when we moved to Florida, we started attending the church of 11 22, and that's when we finally learned about what our relationship with Jesus was. Yeah. And it was transformative for our19:00 family. We went from our kids being like, we have to go to church on Sunday. I don't wanna go because they're sitting there. And it was like a you know, especially in the summertime, that priest, the 35 minutes, we were19:10 done. We were in and out. We still managed to fall asleep in 35 minutes.19:13 You can accomplish a lot in 35 minutes.19:15 Well, I'll tell you. Got a lot of sleep, a good power now. But then when we started going to the church of 11 22, the kids go into a kids program. My wife and my oldest now serve in the first service, and then, my wife19:26 and I go to the second service, and the kids are in the program. So mass is almost the the service is almost 2 hours long, and it doesn't feel like that at all. The music is is, like, been another rock concert,19:38 and, it's been really transformative for all of us, though, to the point where my youngest, she's 3 years old, she drew a picture. And my oldest said, oh, that's beautiful. It was crosses. She said, that's19:50 beautiful. Did you draw that for mommy and daddy? And she was like, no. I drew it for Jesus. And Alyssa goes, well, maybe we can send it to g we'll bring it to church, and we'll send it to Jesus from there. She goes,20:02 how do we send it to Jesus? He lives in my heart. And I was like, oh, I almost cried. It was just the sweetest thing.20:09 When you when they're in the right environment, they will take it in. Totally. That's it.20:15 And it provides so much comfort. I was in I'm in a men's disciple group. It's a a bible study. And 1 of the guys said recently guys were talking about dealing with anxiety as men and how it's not something that that we20:25 talk about, especially when you're a business owner or an entrepreneur in the ups and the downs. And a guy said, you know, a piece of advice that was shared with me in in how to deal with anxiety, he said anxiety is20:36 God's way of tell is your body's way of telling you you need to spend time in prayer. It's your body's reminder to pray. And I was like, man, that's that's pretty good stuff. So Yeah.20:48 Parting thoughts?20:50 No. I I well, I do. I I'm I'm impressed that or I'm I'm I'm glad that you brought out something because we always like, you have an amazing strength. Right? You see right and wrong very clearly, but you21:02 a lot of people do. You had the courage to step up and do something about it and to join the team who were doing something about it and to hear you say that, you know, that was where that what21:13 the source of that was. Right? We didn't hear you say, oh, I I'm in daily prayer. I go to church all the time, and and that's where I get my strength to do this. Because I think a lot of people watching, listening need21:23 to understand that that seeing right and wrong can come from a lot of sources. It came from your experiences, and where you got that courage is is impressive. But then, ultimately, you circle back and say, but by the21:35 way, a relationship with God is important, and we want to introduce that to the kids. I was I I love that you brought that out, and it was21:43 a great time. Everything happens when it's supposed to happen. You know? I definitely, there's been, you know, I mean, I'm 45. Right? So I've lived for a bit now, and21:55 I think you learn so many different lessons and you learn them when you need to learn them, you know? So, and I think as parents, innately we try to protect our children against everything and obviously they have to22:07 learn their own lessons and they can gain a lot of strength from learning their own lessons and that's something important too. But I think if we give them the right tools and point them in the right direction, they'll22:18 be fine.22:19 How can people get involved?22:21 They can get involved. Oh my goodness. So please reach out to me. If you reach out this like in the next few days. I promise to get back in a few days. We just came back from DC so we have a lot of stories22:33 to sort of get through, because we have wonderful things going on. But momsforliberty dot org, you can put on your state and your county and if you're in Bergen it'll go to me, but anywhere else22:44 it'll, you know, bring you to that chapter chair. So I'm more than happy to help everybody.
