The Silent Danger of Heart Disease 0:01 If your arteries were 60 percent blocked, would you know it? Would you feel it? Usually, no. If they're 60 percent. Even if they're 75 percent blocked, you usually don't have any symptoms. And if you go out0:13 and run real hard, all of a sudden you get real tired or you may have some mild chest pain because you're right, supply and demand. Mhmm. So most heart attacks occur in in northern cities. The 1st snowfall when people0:24 are out shoveling snow and they exceed the demand. They cannot get enough blood supply to their arteries and so it causes a heart attack.0:36 Hello. And this is Kyle Colbert, and this is doctor Colbert's broadcast. And I'm here with my mom, Mary, and my dad, doctor Don Colbert. And today, we're talking about a terrifying topic. I mean, this is a topic that0:48 scares me because you don't know it's coming. You don't hear it. You don't feel it. Yeah. You're sleeping on it. You're laughing. Everything feels normal. Then 1 day, boom, You have a heart attack.0:58 You know? And before you get into it, Dawn, because you have so much information, I think it's important for you to understand. There is so much information on this, topic. It's going to be1:10 really difficult for us to give you everything. So what Don has done is he's narrowed it down to major key points you need to know. Right. This show is gonna be that important for1:22 you, your family, and your health. I just lost my brother. Unexpected, laid down, and he never woke up. Never saw it coming. Nothing.
1:33 We just heart attack.
1:33 A heart attack. And Lindsey Graham, same thing. Didn't see it coming. So this is in the news. This is in the topics going on right now. Everybody's like, wow. What can you
1:45 do? This is your show. Right. This is your show, so stay tuned.
1:50 Mary, what's amazing is heart disease, death by heart disease, still the number 1 killer here in America. And 0.5 the people that died of a heart attack never even knew they had chest pain. Never had chest pain.
2:02 Never had these symptoms. 0.5 of the people.
2:04 That was my brother.
2:05 And they died with
2:06 a smile on his face. He died with a
2:08 smile on his face. Yeah.
2:09 I should say 0.5 the people never knew they had heart disease. They may have had some symptoms, but it's never great symptoms or major symptoms. But 0.5 of the people that died of heart disease never really
2:21 had symptoms of it, which is crazy because we've got to recognize these warning signs and we've got to realize the key is there's risk factors we have that we have to modify.
2:33 If we don't modify these risk factors, we're most people die of heart disease, the majority. Now I like to make it real simple. So just think of a pipe, a water pipe, and that water pipe water has been going through
2:45 there for many decades and eventually rust starts to accumulate in the pipe and rust builds up. And then 1 day, a huge chunk of rust will break off the edge of the pipe and it'll block the pipe. That's similar
2:57 to what's happening in our arteries. In our coronary arteries, there's 2 key coronary arteries of the heart. 1 is the left that splits into 2 arteries, the LAD, left anterior descending branch, and the circumflex branch.
3:08 Whereas the right side has, like, 6 to 8 minor arteries, because it's not the main the left side is the main part of the heart where the major pumping goes.
3:17 So you got small highways on the right? Right. They're like highways. Highway on
3:20 the left. Exactly. So what happens again is those arteries start to build up plaque. And so it's kinda like a highway, like you were saying. So just picture a 4 lane highway. And a 4 lane
3:32 highway traffic is moving really good, but then all of a sudden it shifts down to just 2 lanes being open. Still, you can move, but it's no problem. But then once it shifts down just 1 lane, suddenly traffic
3:44 stops. And that's what happens. What happens is people usually after the age of 50, they slowly start accumulating plaque and they don't realize it. It just accumulates real slowly. But then after
3:56 a while that plaque continues to accumulate, but then what happens is the plaque ruptures. And just like that piece of rust broke off that pipe, well, the when the plaque ruptures, that's
4:08 soft plaque, not hard plaque, soft plaque ruptures. It's it's unstable plaque, kinda like walking on ice when ice is not frozen solid, you break through. Well, with this, unstable plaque, that
4:20 unstable plaque ruptures and that goo oozes out this, cholesterol and calcium deposits in it. And literally, platelets stick to it and make a blood clot. It's real sticky. And that and and
4:32 that's when you have a heart attack. And so again, most heart attacks occur from soft plaque like the rust that breaks off. And so it's real that's the majority. I thought
4:42 it was the constriction.
4:43 Exactly. That's what most people think. But no. It's the it's the soft plaque. So we're gonna talk about what causes that soft plaque and how to reverse it, how to stabilize it.
4:52 There's no symptoms. No, like, or redness of the back of the neck. Well Just think of things in the, you know, the butt.
4:58 There's a lot of symptoms that can be associated.
5:02 With chest pain and heart attacks, the big symptom with with heart attack is squeezing chest pain. Like people say, I feel like it's And everybody
5:10 kinda is waiting for that. Yeah.
5:11 Thank you. That's what But
5:12 that's the extreme. That's the massive heart attack.
5:15 Well, no. That's some people diabetics can have a heart attack without any chest pain. Wow. Without any symptoms because the nerves that innervate the heart have been damaged from the blood sugar.
5:25 Type 2 diabetes, diabetic?
5:26 Or type 1.
5:27 Either 1?
5:28 Either 1. That's They have silent heart attacks. They have no. That's
5:31 That's why this show is so important because 0.5 of people who die from heart disease have no symptoms.
5:39 That is terrifying.
5:40 Unstable plaque. It's like this. It's like we now have tests that can check to see if you have plaque forming your arteries. Now, unfortunately, most people after 50 already forming plaque. I just checked a young
5:52 woman, 40 years of age, whose cholesterol was over 300, and she's already got, a calcium score of, like, 25 in her coronary arteries.
6:01 Okay. Now what does that mean?
6:02 That means that you're forming calcified plaque in your arteries. See, something happens to almost everyone at the age of 50. At the age of 50, women stop producing enough estrogen and men
6:14 stop producing enough testosterone. And then that what also happens is we don't have enough vitamin k, so we start to calcify our arteries and we start to decalcify our bones. It
6:26 happens to everyone.
6:27 Mhmm. So it's it's robbing Peter to pay Paul. It's pulling from the bone.
6:30 Well, this upregulates around age 50 when men go through andropause and women go through menopause because estrogen and testosterone are protective in that regard. But what happens is if we can just start
6:42 taking vitamin k 2, it starts to correct that and it starts to regulate calcium metabolism, and it puts calcium in the bones and takes calcium out of the arteries. Unfortunately, most people don't start this till they're
6:54 60 or 70.
6:55 Okay.
6:56 So you're a kid. See, you better you listen. Just 1 thing.
7:00 Okay.
7:00 You've been big into k 2 lately. Oh, I've been k 2.
7:03 K 2 for for 15 years or more.
7:05 I've heard you say it 1000000 times now. Yeah.
7:07 And, again, this is the big thing I find. See, for most everyone, if you wanna be real preventive, again, what I do is I know my numbers. I check my numbers every 6 months. I just got them back and all my numbers were
7:19 normal.
7:19 Now would you have shared it if they weren't normal?
7:21 Yeah. Absolutely. And you know what? He did I wouldn't.
7:24 He did my blood test.
7:25 That's what mode that's what motivated him.
7:27 My blood test kicked out great. Here in his book let me see his book a 2nd. We gotta do it real quick. Live long, live strong, this book. Everybody needs to have this book
7:39 in their library. They need to own it. I'm telling you, this needs to be your bible. It'll tell you the scores that your blood test should read, what they should not be, and you
7:51 can use this as your guidance. Get this little book.
7:54 Did you also record your voice on that in Audible?
7:57 You have it?
7:57 They didn't. It is auto.
7:59 It is. You have it on Audible.
8:00 It is on auto, but when he did it, the technician messed up.
8:04 Yeah. I did.
8:05 They had to redo it.
8:06 You didn't wanna redo the whole book again?
8:08 Oh, wait. It was 2 days.
8:09 I know. Did he It was correct. I'm on a VO. I know.
8:12 She said, you've gotta read this on on on on on air, and I did it. So much time. But they said I crucified some of the words because some were in, Indian. Yeah. You know, so it's Indian herbs. Oh, the Ayurvedics.
8:24 Right. They're the herbs.
8:25 Yeah. See, I crucified that 1. So what can we do? What so k 2 is 1 of
8:30 Well, no. 1st of all, let's let's back up and let's just kinda people are looking for symptoms to occur before they get their heart check. And so, again, if your arteries were 60 percent blocked, would you know
8:42 it? Would you feel it? Usually, no.
8:45 Wow. 60 percent.
8:46 Even if they're 75 percent blocked, you usually don't have any symptoms.
8:51 Other than other than energy.
8:54 Well, no. No. What happens though is is supply demand. So in other words, now here's what happens. If your arteries are 75 percent blocked to your heart, your coronary arteries, and if you go out and run real hard, all
9:06 of a sudden you get real tired or you may have some mild chest pain. Because you're right, supply and demand. So most heart attacks occur in in northern cities the 1st snowfall when people are out shoveling snow and
9:18 they exceed the demand. They cannot get enough blood supply to their arteries and so it causes a heart attack.
9:24 Interesting.
9:25 And so that's why, again, when people's arteries are like 60 or up to 75 percent blocked, many have no symptoms unless they overexert themselves or have a panic attack where their heart's going
9:36 real fast and furiously. So that's why it's so important to know these risk factors.
9:41 Right. But I think As
9:42 far as the
9:43 screen We've heard a lot of people talk about before they had a heart attack, their family talked about the fact that their they complained of their energy,
9:52 that they Brain fog energy.
9:54 They're just really tired.
9:55 Getting as much supplied, blood to the brain.
9:58 Low energy is a major symptom Okay. Of heart disease.
10:01 So there is 1
10:02 symptom. But especially if you have low when you go and exercise and instead of improving your energy, your energy gets worse. And then when you're exercising, you have some shortness of breath
10:14 or you have some, you know, some chest pain. Again, it's supply demand. You're not getting enough oxygen to the arteries in your heart.
10:21 I feel like this is 1 of those shows that causes anxiety. As you're listening, you're breathing, you're going
10:27 Would someone get me my gratitude?
10:29 Again, people most people say, I feel great. So I know I don't have any heart disease. That's not that's a poor, monitor of heart disease. And then all of a sudden, when people have squeezing
10:41 chest pain, that's the main symptom you have, but not all people with heart attacks have a squeezing chest pain like an elephant sitting on your chest. The shortness of breath can occur. The severe fatigue can occur, but
10:52 also abdominal pain. People with heart attacks, many times, get abdominal pain here like a tight squeezing pain in their upper abdomen. They it feels like acid reflux. And they go to the doctor, and the doctor doesn't
Symptoms and Warning Signs to Recognize
11:04 check their heart. And they've had they're having a heart attack, and they they just mark it up as reflux. And many die every year from that. Wow. Many have back pain. But it the back pain occurs in the upper back and
11:15 between the shoulder blades. And they say, oh, I'm just having back pain. No. They go see Having a heart attack or they go see a chiropractor. Wow. Or some people have pain that radiates up to their jaw or up their
11:27 neck or down both arms, or it radiates to their stomach or their back or their neck. Some have, light headedness. Some have fatigue. They're just real tired. They're wondering.
11:39 They're going to the doctor, and they're getting all these, IV IVs or glutathione and Meyers IVs, and they've got have poor circulation to their arteries of their heart. And so, again, that's why it's so important to
11:50 know your arteries, know your risk factors. So I'm gonna be talking about some risk factors we can modify and but and what we can do to know if we have heart disease or not.
Calcium Scoring and Advanced Testing
12:03 Hey. You've been watching doctor Colbert's broadcast. And if you enjoyed the show, if it helped you, if it touched your life, please make sure to like, share, or follow us on our channel. It really helps the algorithm.
12:15 We appreciate it. God bless. Stay strong. Well, on that calcium score, what is so if they can go to their doctor, they can request a
12:27 a a calcium score. Right. What is the ideal calcium score that people are looking for?
12:31 Well, 0. Book. No. It's it's not in this book. The ideal calcium score is 0. In other words, when you go to have it's a coronary I just had mine. I just have a coronary CT. I'm waiting on it. It should be,
12:43 had it about 5 years ago 0. So I check it about every 5
12:46 years. 0?
12:47 0. Yeah. Now, again, I just had a 40 year calcium? 0 calcium. Yeah. Well, I'm on k 2.
12:52 I'm gonna listen to you then.
12:54 Well, I shouldn't have any. But listen. 9. Yours is, like, 20.
12:58 That's terrible.
12:59 It's not terrible. Well, what is mild? Break that down to layman's terms. Does that mean 20 percent of her arteries are locked?
13:04 No. It doesn't mean when it gets to 100, it's over. Your heart's gone. I just had a patient who had a score of 400. So I sent them to the cardiologist. They had a nuclear stress test. Now in a nuclear stress
13:16 test, they inject, a radioactive tracer, and then they have a spec scanner, PET scan. So they're able to tell you get on, you have a resting EKG and a stress test with it. So you
13:27 really rev the heart up, you put this tracer in, and then it'll show, areas that have good blood flow will show up as good blood flow. And areas where there's poor blood flow will show up as white spots.
13:40 And it'll just show where it's not getting good blood flow. So you can tell with a nuclear, stress test whether you're getting good blood flow. So why why are you saying that? This guy had even though he had a calcium
13:50 score of 400, he had excellent blood flow. So the calcium was not in the inner artery. It was in the in the wall of the artery. Really? So it was not hurting him. So I said, just follow-up
14:02 with your cardiologist, get a nuclear stress test every Why would that happen? Well, that's because we don't know where that calcium is going. That's why these tests are so important. Now, there's a new test we have, and
14:13 the new test is called a CCTA. And a CCTA is is much more accurate than, the coronary artery calcium score. We're getting ahead of ourselves. So the CCTA
14:25 Let's go straight
14:26 to the end.
14:26 No. Well, 1st of all, we do it in tiers. We do a 1st tier. At age 50, I check all the major risk factors.
14:34 Okay.
14:35 If they have a a strong family history of heart disease at a young age, I include other tests, blood tests. Okay? Then if, at around age 50, it's good to do a
14:46 coronary artery calcium score to tell how much calcium is in the arteries. Now then we grade that score. If the score is, say, 0 to or 0, that's perfect. If the score
14:58 is 1 to 99, that means it's mild plaque. Yours is 20, so it's mild. Okay. So it's a c. No. It's like a b. Oh. So so we monitor it every 3 years, and we put her on we
15:10 put them on risk reduction protocols. Medicines to get the cholesterol down. You wanna get your LDL cholesterol down to 55.
15:18 Why is that?
15:19 Or else you're going to be forming more plaque. Yeah. But You wanna take a lot of k 2 to stop that calcium the calcium's forming. You also, you wanna take grape seed extract because it helps to dilate
15:31 those blood blood vessels. It increases nitric oxide. You wanna take some, aged black garlic. It raises HDL. We talk about all this. And you may wanna take some citrus bergamot,
15:43 especially if your oxidized LDL is high because this prevents oxidized LDL, 1 of the major forms of plaque in the arteries. So you do that, and then you also bring your sugar down. High blood sugar causes plaque
15:54 formation. Diabetics get more plaque than most anyone else.
15:57 That's just the inflammation?
15:58 Yes. High CRP. Well, sugar causes inflammation. High sugar and high inflammatory markers like h s CRP are associated with more plaque. And I've had renowned cardiologist
16:10 we've gone to dinner with, and they've told me they say, I have seen patients who keep their cholesterol in the high 2 hundreds, yet their c r p is less than 0.1, and their hemoglobin a 1 c is
16:22 5.0, and they don't develop plaque. And he does these new types of, coronary artery screens, and these are called the coronary artery screen with CCTA. And CCTA
16:34 is simply a computerized coronary computed tomography with Clearly Technology. Now this is so cool. This is the new thing.
16:43 It's like AI for the This is AI. Okay.
16:46 This is AI. Using AI technology. So with AI technology called Clearly, c l e e r l y, this is a major breakthrough in preventive cardiology.
16:56 Oh, my.
16:56 Because now what they're doing
16:58 Hey.
16:58 And I was gonna have it done, but I didn't because I wanted to check my kidney function 1st. Because if your kidneys are impaired, you have to go in, you have to take a beta blocker, slows the heart rate down. Then you
17:09 have the CT scan, and they have to put in a a contrast, which is iodine. And so if you have any kidney problems, it can solve kidney. Yeah. Stress the kidneys more.
17:19 Now the reason he says he watches his kidneys is because he's had a massive keystroke when he was in med school.
17:26 Now when when he And he
17:27 compromised his kidneys. Isn't
17:28 that wild? That followed you around for 4
17:31 to 15. Have to. Now here's what I I could have done. I could have taken my nano glutathione, 10 sprays before the test, 10 sprays after to protect my kidneys. That's what I have a lot of my patients do who have a
17:43 CT scan with contrast, so it protects their kidneys.
17:45 Arnana glutathione is incredible.
17:47 Right. It just has it's a potent, supplement that protects the kidneys. Now the c t the CTCCTA will show hard plaque and soft plaque. The soft
17:59 plaque is the most dangerous. It's kinda like a volcano. The hard plaque is like a volcano that's extinct now, like, I think you're at Mount Vesuvius in Italy recently. And so I think that
18:11 volcano is extinct. But then, the soft plaque is like an active volcano. You don't know if it's gonna erupt. And soft plaque is very prone to erupt and cause a blood clot. And so
18:23 that's what we're looking for, soft plaque. Now there's also markers, but let's 1st
18:27 And that's associated with strokes too. Right?
18:30 Oh, absolutely. Strokes and heart attacks. So, again, let's just talk about what the numbers mean. 1 through, 0 means you're great. A test of 0 is is means your arteries are a plus good. And
18:42 just monitored every 3 to 5 years.
18:44 Well, Don, you drink olive oil like
18:47 people drink. I know. We're gonna talk about that in a minute, and I think everyone should too. And we got a we got a new olive oil capsule coming out by 1 of the greatest scientists, doctor Magietas in Greece,
18:56 University of Athens.
18:57 It's on its way actually.
18:58 And so exactly. Thousand olives. Right. And so And thisShow more
