  6. 30Queen of Sheba: An Extravagant Quest for WisdomIn today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at the Queen of Sheba, a woman who traveled thousands of miles to find answers to her most pressing questions about life and God. I’ve always been fascinated by the story of the Queen of Sheba. This glamorous woman, queen of her land, comes in search of wisdom from the wisest man who ever lived. So what did she do to gain such a reputation?Jezebel is not someone we easily connect with, and yet, we may have more in common than we care to admit. As wives, we have terrific power over our husbands. They love us and want to please us. Have we ever, though, led them astray, causing them to do something they might not have done on their own? What about our children? What are they picking up from us? How are they imitating us? Are they following in our footsteps? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?Have we ever been guilty of dominating over our husbands rather than letting them be the leader they were designed to be? Ahab was king, but Jezebel was the one calling the shots. Has that ever happened in your marriage?What about are we more concerned with physical appearance than inner beauty? Are we consumed with our hair and makeup when we should be concerned with our hearts? And finally, are we endearing ourselves to those who know us best? Would they defend you in times of trouble or would they throw you out the window to your enemy?   8. 32Widow of Zarephath: A Woman Generous to the EndIn today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at the Widow of Zarephath a pagan woman living in Jezebel’s homeland who discovered that God wasn’t just the Israelites’ God, He was hers, too. Although the widow is a nameless woman in the Bible, her story is a most familiar one. It wasn’t until I began researching her, though, that I realized that she wasn’t actually a Hebrew, but was instead a native of Zidon, the homeland of Jezebel.   9. 33The Prophet's Widow: A Woman in DebtIn today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at the Prophet’s Widow, a woman with debt collectors knocking on her door and she had no way to repay them. The Bible is filled with God granting miracles for widows. Each widow faced difficulties far beyond anything they could handle on their own. And in each case, God showed them that they weren’t alone and that He cared for them. He provided for them in ways they didn’t expect, and in doing so, demonstrated His amazing love for them.We meet the Prophet’s Widow in 2 Kings chapter 4. We’re told she was one of the wives of the sons of the prophets. During this time in history God rose up prophets like Elisha who held prophecy schools where they tutored or trained other prophets in the ancient Law. This woman’s husband was one of those students. This was his calling. He dedicated his life to studying and serving God which meant he was dependent on others to provide for him financially. But these were difficult times. The people of Israel were struggling. The prophet had to take out a loan in order to provide for his family. Then he died, leaving his helpless widow owing money and having no way to pay off the debt. However, it’s November, and I just found out that it’s National Podcast Post Month. Podcasters around the world are encouraged to post episodes each day of the month. So how is All God’s Women celebrating? I’m doing short shout outs to obscure Bible women who are mentioned with only a sentence or two. But they were significant enough that God wanted to preserve them for posterity and let us know that these were women to be honored.Each episode will be just a couple of minutes, but long enough to call them out and give a brief bio. We open with the Old Testament women who donated their jewelry to the tabernacle in Exodus 35. Their hearts were stirred, their spirit was willing and they brought gold earrings, nose rings, and necklaces as an offering to the Lord. We don’t know their names nor how many women there were, but we know that they were generous and gave sacrificially of their items of worth so that they might be used in God’s tabernacle.   13. 37Shunammite Woman: Cool, Calm, CollectedIn today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at the Shunammite woman, a take charge woman of few words. But when tragedy hit, she could’t hide the emotions bubbling inside.2 Kings chapter 4 goes directly from the prophet’s widow to the Shunammite woman. The two could not be more different. One was destitute; the other wealthy. One a widow; the other married. One had two sons; the other was barren. Both, however, needed a miracle, which the prophet Elisha provided.Isn’t it wonderful that God gave us glimpses of all different women so that we could see all levels of the spectrum? Don’t you love that even if you never tell a soul what you’re feeling, He still knows. He knows the desires of your heart. He knows your deepest heartache. And He’s there for both. He longs to give you all that you need and to comfort you in your time of sorrow. I’m Sharon Wilharm, your host, and it’s day 5 of National Podcast Post Month.Today we move on to 1 Samuel 9 where we meet a group of young maidens on their way to draw water. They were merely going about their business, doing something they did every single day, but this particular day God used them in a mighty way.God used a lost donkey, a servant, and a group of girls to introduce Saul to the prophet Samuel who was to anoint him king. Our God is a God of destiny, not happenstance. Nothing is truly random. It all happens for a reason. It’s likely those girls never knew that the man looking for a lost donkey was the man who later ruled over their land. It would have never occurred to them that giving directions to a lost man would set him on a royal path. But God knew. Yesterday we left off when David’s two messengers were caught in En-rogel but escaped to Bahurim, a village east of Jerusalem on the route to Jordan. They came to a man’s house that had a well in his courtyard, so they climbed in the well. The woman of the house saw what was going on and figured out who they were. Without anyone observing what she was doing, she covered the opening with a cloth then threw dried grain atop the cloth. You may be at a season of your life where most of your time is spent at home. You may feel there’s nothing you can do while tucked away at home. But God has you right where you need to be. All you have to do is listen to His promptings and obey what He tells you to do.   20. 44Naaman's Wife's Maidservant: An Unexpected Spokesperson For GodIn today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at a beautiful testimony of God at work through a humble servant girl. Though she’s only mentioned in one verse, she is the personification of what a Christian woman should be.In 2 Kings chapter 5 we’re introduced to Naaman. He was commander of the army of the king of Syria. He was a great and honorable man of valor, and a victorious warrior, but he had leprosy. We all know the familiar phrase in Esther “for such a time as this”. Although the phrase itself is only found in that one instance, the concept is throughout the Bible. That little servant girl was in Naaman’s household for such a time as that. You are where you currently are for such a time as this. In the days ahead we may very find ourselves in places we never intended to be. Situations may not be of our choosing. But we will have the choice of what we do in those situations. When you’re whisked away from the comfort of your former life and thrown into an unfamiliar world, you have the choice to wallow in darkness or to shed light in the darkness.   23. 47Bonus Episode - Two MothersHi and welcome to All God’s Women. I’m Sharon Wilharm, your host, and it’s day 14 of National Podcast Post Month.So now, I warned you, today’s story is not pretty. In fact, it’s quite disturbing. But it’s included in the Bible for a reason, and as gory as it is, it’s a message that needs to be shared. In 2 Kings 6 verses 26-30 we meet two mothers. Earlier in chapter 6 we find unrest between Israel and Syria leading to the king of Syria gathering his army and besieging Samaria. Add to that there was a famine. The economy reached the point where a donkey’s head sold for 80 shekels of silver and a fourth of a cab of dove droppings sold for five shekels of silver. Donkey heads and dove droppings! People were desperate!These were dire times. But when mothers nonchalantly kill their children and think nothing of it, something is wrong. When mothers sacrifice their sons to serve themselves, there’s a bigger problem than lack of food. It’s no wonder the king tore his robes and went around in sackcloth. But we’re going to focus in on the granddaughter of Absolom and the wife of King Rehoboam. We first meet her in 1 Kings 15, but I want to look first at 2 Chronicles 11:20-22. In verse 20 we’re told that Rohaboam married her and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith. Then we learn that Rohaboam loved her more than any of his other wives and concubines, which is pretty impressive, considering he had 18 wives and 60 concubines. He fathered 28 sons and 60 daughters, but he appointed Maacha’s son Abijah as crown prince to succeed him as king.All God's Women is a Bible study podcast where we journey through the Bible one woman at a time.
