John 7 Explained: What Did Jesus Mean by Living Water?

October 11, 2026 · 1 hr 5 min

They came to arrest Jesus, but they left without Him. When the religious leaders demanded an explanation, the temple guards gave an extraordinary answer: “No one ever spoke like this man.” (John 7:46)What did Jesus say that left the crowd divided, the religious leaders furious, and the temple guards unable to carry out their orders? In this verse-by-verse sermon from John 7:32–52, Pastor Jon Groves of Honor Church takes us into the Feast of Tabernacles, where Jesus stood before the crowds and issued one of the most remarkable invitations in Scripture:“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” (John 7:37)Against the backdrop of Israel's celebration of God's faithfulness in the wilderness, Jesus revealed Himself as the source of living water. His message confronted religious hypocrisy, exposed the seriousness of unbelief, and offered salvation to anyone willing to believe. In this message, discover why God's purposes cannot be stopped by human opposition, why Jesus invites everyone to come to Him, what the rivers of living water reveal about the Holy Spirit, and why the words of Jesus still demand a response today. You'll also explore the biblical meaning of revival, the importance of remembering God's faithfulness, and why knowing Scripture matters more than merely practicing religion.Primary Scripture: John 7:32–52Additional Scriptures: Leviticus 23:39–43; Nehemiah 8–9; Isaiah 55:1; John 3:16; John 6; Psalm 119:11; 2 Peter 3:9; Revelation 21:6.ABOUT HONOR CHURCHHonor Church is a Bible-preaching, Christ-centered church in downtown Lake Mary, Florida, serving the greater Orlando area.We believe in preaching the Bible verse by verse, building authentic Christian community, celebrating communion every Sunday, and helping people know and follow Jesus.JOIN US IN PERSONHonor Church109 E.
