God's Authority Over Life and Death 0:10 We welcome you to chapter 27 of the book Reversed from Culturally woke to biblically awake. We're looking at chapter 27, which is the topic the aged0:22 and euthanasia. Now, we all have something in common. Everyone of us watching this, every 1 of us at some point are going to die. However, the determination of that is up to God,0:34 not up to us. Now the the Bible does give authority to military activity of a government to restrain evil and use lethal force. The Bible, I believe, gives0:46 the legitimacy of lethal force if it has to be used in protecting some loved ones in one's home as an example. But other than that, it's up to God when a life is supposed to0:57 end. Now Satan is the destroyer. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Why does he hate human life so much? Why does he try to destroy human life? We mentioned in1:09 a previous video that 1 of the reasons is because humanity is what worships God. Now it says if we don't cry out the rocks will, but God doesn't want the rocks to cry out. He wants us to cry out in worship1:21 and adoration of him. So that's 1 reason Satan hates us. There's another reason in the fact that we procreate in the image of God. We're made in the image of God and part of that1:33 capacity is the capacity to create, in this case, procreate. Angels don't do that. Humans do that. And Satan, named Lucifer, hates that and disdains1:45 that. And so, he tries to bring death to everyone he can, including premature death called euthanasia. Sometimes these are called mercy killings. Sometimes they even call1:57 it death with dignity. But the fact is it is still murder and is not appropriate. I wanna distinguish we we use the word suicide.2:08 Suicide, which means actually has the meaning of death to self. We don't have the capacity to create itself. Don't have the the capacity to create to take our self. We'll always live. We're eternal2:20 beings. What we actually create is is biocide. We may end our life, our breathing capacity, but the self continues. This has to do with the word death2:32 side. So really, you don't technically commit suicide. You technically commit biocide. You end your your natural physical life, but yourself, you don't have the2:44 capacity to end that. Tragically, 10 different states in Washington, DC have all made legal euthanization, the the killing. In fact, they they2:56 they make it sound like if you're not willing to take your life when you are elderly, that you're actually being selfish. What does the Bible have to say about this topic? I'm gonna read3:08 you a little bit page 2 18. Page 2 18. It says, how does the Bible treat suicide? It turns out that every time it is mentioned in the3:20 scripture, it's in a negative light. From Abimelech to Saul to Ahithopaul to Judas Iscariot, taking our own life breaks3:31 God's command not to murder. Because this is a case of self murder, which artificially shortens the opportunity for unforeseen circumstances3:44 to bring glory to God. Now, that's not the same. There's nothing morally wrong with however, on the contrast to that, administering things3:55 that would diminish the pain of someone in the very twilight moments of their life. Proverbs actually, verse chapter 31 verses 6 and 7 alludes to4:07 this, giving someone something that reduces pain as as life is ending. Unfortunately, I've had to be a part of this, 3 times. Morphine was given to my wife4:19 in her last few hours as she died of cancer a number of years ago. My 1st wife, saw it in my mother. My mother died at the age of 102. And,4:31 painfully just before this taping, my daughter died died of cancer. And we've had to had to see morphine administered in those situations4:44 that reduced the pain as the as the body was beginning just to breathe its last few times. That is legitimate and that is appropriate. We call that palliative care. We call that, pain4:56 management in the life of someone who's dying. However, at the same time, it's important for us to have respect for thePalliative Care vs. Hastening Death 5:07 elderly. I pause there because we live in a culture that does not grasp honor. Western civilization does not grasp honor. I traveled to Korea to preach5:19 1 time, and the 1st thing they announced I was preaching at a conference. And the 1st thing they said is the year I was born. That's what they announced. I thought, that's strange. They beamed a message to everybody the5:31 year I was born. It indicated that I was the oldest person in the room, and everybody was to honor me. It was based on age. Strong sense of culture, and boy did they honor me because of the very year5:43 I was born. That sounds strange to Western culture that sees elderly people as throwaways. That is not particularly valuable to the culture. The Bible does5:55 not look on elderly people as throwaways or to be warehoused. It says, I'm gonna read from page 2 19. What about those who are elderly, tired, and suffering? The6:06 Lord reveals that we are to show special respect for those who are older, Deuteronomy 32, Job 12, and value them in their weakness, 2nd Samuel 19,6:18 Ecclesiastes 12, we are to protect them, Psalm 71, and encourage them and cherish them, and not to see them as a burden as they approach the6:30 end of their earthly life. That is the pattern that God established for the elderly. Not euthanasia, but respect and honor6:42 and cherishing them. Well, we're still going from culturally woke to biblically awake.6:51 Let us pray. Heavenly father, we commit to the sanctity of life at all stages. We pray for the well-being of the aged and ask that there would be love and7:03 respect for them from their families, support for those in nursing's homes who may be lonely and in pain, and endurance for those who are7:14 tempted to despair. We pray for helpless people facing pain and fear, seeking comfort, support, and for skilled medical team care. We7:26 pray for the sanctity of life and for a culture of life to dwell in our nations and that we would reject the culture of death and all its deceptions. In Jesus' name, amen.7:40 We hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching. Hey, don't forget to check out this discussion questions that are attached.
