Midday Prayer on Matthew 16:26

Lord of Heaven and Earth,

We stand at the crossroads of desire and divinity, pondering the enigmatic words in Matthew 16:26: "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" We feel this truth urging us to look beyond the veneer of worldly gains, to question the cost of the quests we undertake.

We often chase after temporary joys—wealth, status, influence, and applause—as if they can clothe the nakedness of our souls! We are mesmerized by the flickering lights of the world like moths to a flame. Oh how bitter the ashes taste when dreams birthed from vanity crumble and fall.

But You, oh Lord, guide us through this existential maelstrom. You invite us to a deeper currency, where the soul's worth is not measured by worldly scales, but by the gravity of love, compassion, and purpose. We ask for the wisdom to know that the trade-offs we make today sketch the eternities we inhabit tomorrow. May the ink of Your Holy Spirit write upon the parchment of our souls stories worth telling and love worth giving. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
