The Bible is clear that we're slaves no matter what -- but it's up to us who the Master will be. We can choose to be slaves to sin and allow the devil to run our lives, or we can be slaves to God and to righteousness. And even when we disobey Him, He still extends His grace to us.
There are good and bad choices — foolish and wise. The wise choose the way of God and they listen to the advice of those who follow Him. Would a wise person accept this kind of job offer?: “If you do what I want, when I want, I’ll give you a huge bonus at first, but then I’ll pay you less and less until you become my slave. Then I will watch you waste away until you die.” Satan extends this kind of offer to all of us. Unless we make a conscious decision each day to walk with God, we will naturally turn to this offer without even recognizing it.
Sometimes refusing sin looks like missing out on fun, but choosing not to follow God is a decision to follow Satan by default. Satan enslaves us to sin that leads to death, while God richly blesses His children who walk in the way of wisdom.
When has one unwise decision spiraled into many others? What or who got you back on track?
