Scripture

“But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.”

1 Timothy 4:7-9

Our wellness journey goes far beyond diet and exercise. It can include stress management, life balance, and spiritual, mental, and financial health. Setting goals in each area is important, but focusing on one or two at once is more realistic. When you feel called to start reaching them, break them down with the S.M.A.R.T. goal guide. This acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. For example, I want to start working out for 30 minutes three times a week at a local park for a month.

When we meet our goals, it’s recommended that we pause for celebration. A reward could include buying new running shoes, a fitness watch, or taking some vacation time. Research shows that doing this increases motivation and productivity.

The best advice is to start today. You will never look back on your wellness journey and regret beginning a day earlier than you did. Think of Jesus as your personal trainer and life coach. He will be with you and encourage you to care for your mind, body, and spirit. All it takes is that you invite Him into your wellness journey. Give this time back to the Lord, and He will bless you for it. He believes in you!
