The Bible says that with God, all things are possible. This sentiment is especially relevant in times of emotional or physical hardship.
When you encounter problems with your health, taking a moment to say a prayer for healing can give peace of mind to many.
Saying a healing prayer won't solve all your problems, but it can provide comfort during a time when you need it the most.
Of course, the prayers don't need to be said for you. Your thoughts and healing prayers can bring peace and comfort to someone in your life who is experiencing health problems, too.
Here are some prayers you can use for your recovery or the recovery of a loved one.
The Bible is filled with stories about healing. In the Old Testament, there are more than a few healing Bible verses. In 2 Kings 20:1–11, God heals Hezekiah’s terminal illness.
Hezekiah says to God, “Remember, Lord, how I've walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”
God agrees to heal Hezekiah on one condition. After three days had passed, Hezekiah had to go to the temple and receive 15 more years of life. It was through Hezekiah’s unwavering faith that God agreed to heal him.
Also, there are several stories of Jesus healing people with his miracles. Jesus healing the blind man in John 9:1–12 and saying, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” is one of the most well-known.
There’s also the story of the woman who had a blood issue in Luke 8:43–48. Her bleeding had gone on for many years until she reached out and touched the robe of Jesus. Her ailment immediately stopped, and Jesus turned and asked who had touched Him. When the woman stepped forward and confessed what she'd done, Christ said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
While it may be impossible to heal on faith alone, it can be a comfort to read these stories of faith and healing. We may also find it comforting knowing that we are not suffering alone. The Heavenly Father will always be there with us every step of the way.
There are so many different types of healing that aren’t necessarily physical healing. Some different types of mental healing include healing grief or healing relationships. Sometimes our body and soul need healing.
We can be so overwhelmed by what ails us that it can be hard to pray for ourselves. But there are plenty of ways to do so, including:
If these options aren't available, here are some prayers you or a family member can use anytime.
If you're religious, you can feel great peace and comfort in just knowing that somebody is praying for you. So here are a few prayers you can use to help those in need.
Lord, You still perform miracles today, and I praise You for Your promises of healing and restoration. Today, I claim those promises for my friend. You have the power to change lives through faith, prayer, and Your healing hand. I want to assist You in starting that work in my friend's life. I ask You to surround my friend with peace and strength and give them the faith to believe that everything is possible through You, the Holy Spirit. Amen
Dear Lord, I ask You to be kind to me as I suffer, to strengthen the hands of my healers, and to bless how they treat me. I'm going through a hard time and suffering from a broken heart. Let me trust in the power of Your grace so that even when I'm afraid, I may put my full trust in You, my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Dear God, thank You that you love [name of the person who needs healing]. I pray that You'll heal this disease and bring healing from all sickness through your compassion. In the Bible, I've read of miraculous healing, and I believe You still heal the same way today. I also know from my experience of life on earth that not everyone is healed. If that happens here, then keep my heart soft toward You, help me to understand Your plan, and help me to prepare myself for my loved one’s return to heaven. God, I thank You that [name of the person who needs healing] belongs to You and that You are in control of everything that happens, from our first breath to our last. Amen.
By your faithfulness in suffering, Lord Jesus Christ, You've given us a perfect example of obeying Your Father’s will. My Lord and my God, help me in times of weakness and pain. I ask that You sustain me by Your grace so that my strength and courage do not fail. Please heal me according to Your will and inspire me to believe that what happens to me here is trivial in light of eternity. Amen.
Jesus, I know that when You walked on the earth, You trod upon hard places. You felt the strain of this world and the pressures of mental torment. So I ask that You come beside me now, lead me through this time where my mind cannot cope. Help me to find peace and calm my inner thoughts. You hold me safe, God; I trust in You. In the name of the Lord, Amen.
Praying for the good health of yourself or another person can be a wonderful gift.
It can be a great mood-booster, knowing that someone is looking out for you. Being reminded God is watching over you with the healing power of his love gives comfort to all Christians.
