Ep 1447 | Fallen Angels Crossed God’s Boundaries & This Is the Price They Paid
October 22, 2026 · 58 min
The Jesus who offers forgiveness is also the terrifying judge we’ll face, and that’s a harder picture to hang on the wall. Jase, Al, and Zach challenge the comfortable version of Jesus that leaves out his power, authority, and judgment as they continue through Jude. The guys confront church imposters, the excuses that sustain a double life, and the temptation to treat grace as permission to keep sinning. They also trace the Bible’s warnings about fallen angels and consider a possible connection between an ancient sacrificial ritual and the spiritual forces Jesus defeated.

Series Unashamed with Phil & Jase Robertson
Impostors in the Church and Warnings from Israel’s Exodus 0:01 I am unashamed. What about you?0:06 So welcome back to Unashamed. We've told you before, we, record a couple at a time. And so with this discussion we're having is so intense. Normally, we have a little bit of a light light intro,0:17 but we just finished, the last podcast, which, man, this is such a big... And Jason0:24 look at this as finishing. We're we're in the struggle.0:28 We're in the agonizing contention0:31 of the struggle.... Studying something that is not studied much.0:35 Yeah. Well, and I think one of the reasons why, Jay, is that Jude sort of he he sort of strips back, such a short letter, but it...0:46 There's an intensity about it that's, that's noteworthy. I mean, you know, I mean... And and0:52 Al, maybe we should say the obvious. If you are an impostor Yeah. At your local church, this is not gonna end well for you,1:03 which which is a perfect segue.1:05 I I... And I do believe that... I'm trying not to make a blanket statement here, but I would say almost every local church has impostures.
1:17 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
1:17 They're there. They're sitting around. And I think it's just the way the model is set up that we spend most of our time, you know, just at the meeting place on what's going on. And anybody can walk
1:29 in and anyone can say, oh, yeah. Jesus is lord and live a double life kinda like what we went through in James. And, and and there's just a lot going on behind the scenes
1:42 where they're actually recruiting people Yeah. Who have made Jesus their lord Right. Into activities that are not godly and that cross boundaries that are obviously wrong and that
1:54 you will stand before god, and he's gonna say And
1:58 how how what? And how many times have you seen it when these people ascend into leadership, especially, that then it ends with some... With all the basic things we're reading here, the immorality
2:10 Yeah.
2:10 Stealing money. Yeah. All of this is the same basic thing. And it's back to that idea I was... I brought up earlier in the last podcast about idolatry as part of this, and and we were just getting into this with
2:22 these warnings from example, and we we sorta... We we kinda dabbled in all three of those, but I wanna get into them a little bit more on this podcast because his first one is the exodus as you described and set
2:34 up, and they were brought out of slavery. But do do you notice it's the same thing in all three of the examples? They were brought out, but then a a certain
2:46 portion of them immediately wanted to go back.
2:49 Yeah.
2:50 And and this becomes the internal struggle so much so that God expands it out over forty years of being out there so that a whole generation of people will die
3:02 before they reach the place he sent for them to be. They should have been there in forty days
3:07 Mhmm.
3:07 Not forty years. Why? Because they grumbled and wanted to go back. Again, their eyes got off of exactly what they were asked to do. Started with their grumbling about the leadership, about the food. It was every
3:19 little thing that went. Yeah. And you think about the the huge... The moment of truth literally in the desert was when god gave his law, which would then give the
3:31 people... His people the law for them to follow. This was the idea about this is how you're gonna be my people and what they do. I mean, Moses went up. It took it took him forty days to
3:42 receive what he received from God. And during the forty days, they gave up on him, took the spoils that he had given them on their way out of Egypt, gold and all that, fashioned it
3:54 into a golden calf, and then had a massive orgy
3:59 Yeah.
3:59 Around the calf.
4:01 Yeah. Which is the... That's the point I made in the last... That's the that's the that's the exact point I made in the last episode of the nature of idolatry. They were given the spoils from Egypt. So they were
4:11 exercising dominion over the wealth. They... That that was... They had authority over that wealth. And then they take that wealth that they were given to to to spend and to have authority with. They took
4:23 that, and then they fashioned it into something that they then began to worship, and they obviously did that through the orgy as well. But that is the nature of it. And you say, well, what? That's so stupid. Why would
4:34 it... Well, we do it. We do it all the time. That's... This isn't a... Idolatry is not an ancient thing that doesn't happen anymore. It just has a different... People will look back on our day, a thousand years from now,
4:46 if the Lord hasn't come back, and they're gonna look at the things we did and the things that we believe and the things that we beheld, and they're gonna, wait, wait. People gave that much of their life to a to a box, to
4:56 a black box of Seal and Save. People real... Like, people really did that. They were on Instagram. People really were creating OnlyFans account. Like, that that really... They... They'll they'll look at that, and they'll
5:05 think we were ridiculous for it. But we do have... In our cultural context, we have we have a context for the same exact thing today.
5:12 Yeah. It's an... It was invested into them so that when they got to the promised land, they had their start. They had their starting point. And they squandered the... This was a physical investment, but you could say the
5:24 same thing about spiritual. Remember in in Luke fifteen, the story about the prodigal son and the other son, he asked for the inheritance, the investment into his future. He takes it. He goes
5:36 to a neighboring country, and he squanders the whole thing until he has nothing left. And in his case, he comes back. But it's the same exact thing. The idea is is that god
5:47 makes an investment in us when we're called into him to then him be our sovereign, to your point, Ernie, you made. And then if we take that and we squander it by bowing down to any
5:59 idol, whatever it is. But it... You know, the idols always wind up back in the same place just like the kid in in Luke fifteen, in some place of immorality, some some place of debauchery.
6:10 Or even the older brother who should be rejoicing Right. That the grace of God is working. Oh, no. He missed the grace of God.... It again. Look. I I know
6:22 it's hard to make these things practical. I I think that's where I've struggled because I think that's why Jude has avoided being studied because it does tend to get deep.
6:34 But the whole reason I went over the two different words for lord in the Greek is, one, to point out there's a whole wing of our Christianity that have obviously missed something. Right. Because they
6:45 don't realize that God bought bought everybody, whether you're on... In the wrong camp or the right camp. But the two two sons actually illustrate that.
6:55 Yeah.
6:55 It's like, wow. Look how far God's grace can go. This guy's in a pigpen eating slop after he got drunk and slept with everybody he could sleep with....
7:05 Squandered all of his future.
7:06 And here's the Lord running to meet him, and you're like, wow. You know? So that whole wing of Christianity says, oh, wow. That... That's really appealing to every celebrate recovery group
7:18 and all that.
7:19 Nobody's too far gone.
7:20 We can't go too far, but guess what? He doesn't want you to be the best version of yourself. Right. He wants you to be like Jesus. Yep. And, I mean... And so hit... Then you got the older brother. He's not
7:32 done, but, you know, he's living by the law Yeah. Supposedly. And then he can't recognize this happening and rejoice. He's mad, and he's angry at God
7:44 because he's not getting what he feels like is what, you know, the golden calf. He's like, where's my stuff? Yeah. Well, I've been a slave to you all this this time, and you didn't do
7:55 anything.
7:56 He gets he gets, he gets the fattened calf, and I don't even get a goat.
8:01 Alright. That's why I think that calf being slaughtered, you know, the golden calf, I think there's something in there. You know?
8:08 When you think about the, kind of the the trajectory of the the text moving into perverting the grace of God and instead turn it into
8:20 a a license to sin.
8:23 Which, by the way, that was you just described, one of the descriptions of these false people. That was one of the ones.
8:29 That's it. Well, so... But that that... I think that's why he sets it up with the Exodus story because what he's saying is, which is actually really brilliant too, the way he's doing it, he's he's... One, he's locating
8:42 Christ Jesus in the old testament now, which is absolutely brilliant move because he's
8:46 Oh, it's absolutely pivotal. Because we And I wanna hang out here, so don't jump ahead.
8:52 No. I was just...
8:54 No. I was thinking that, like, when you... This is something that, that when you say the the name Jesus, and if you... And I've I've preached this sermon probably seven times in my life, and I always
9:05 get the same response when I'll basically get in the in the, I'll I'll open up the sermon with... I'm gonna say a word, and I... And and when I say the word, I want you to grab the first image that pops in your mind, and
9:16 I'll slow it down and explain it over and over. And then and then I get the word, and the word is is Jesus. And then I have three slides on the on the... Behind me that I'll show, and I'll say, give me a raise of hand
9:28 on which image you saw. The first image is Jesus petting the lamb. And he almost looks... You know, you've seen the picture. He looks almost like... He's like the nicest guy in the world, super gentle. I mean, he's just
9:38 like... He's he's holding a lamp for crying out loud. Then the next one is, and about a third of the audience raises their hand. Then the next one I'll I'll show is the one with Jesus, all the kids around him, you know,
9:48 that that picture. Yep. I'd let the children come to me and and then you have, you know, a good good percentage there. And then the last one will be Christ hanging on the cross, and that's that's the majority. Every
9:59 time, that's about half the audience. We just hit real fall. Last night at my house, it was thirty three degrees. It's the best. I don't know if y'all got there
10:11 yet.
10:11 Well, it's... In Louisiana, it's fifty, and that feels like twenty three degrees because it's usually ninety.
10:19 Well, once you get down to below about sixty, that's when I pull out our old friend, the Bubble Cuddle, from our friends over at Cozy Earth. We are all Cozy Earth family. I mean, you guys... What all y'all got? I mean,
10:29 y'all got the pajama sets. You got those the bamboo sheets. I don't know what all y'all... I got it all. What do y'all got?
10:34 What's crazy is Missy last night pulled out the bubble cuddle for the first time since last winter.
10:41 Well, they got the jogger sets. They're designed to be your go to outfit. So if you're out out and about, you kinda wanna be comfortable, but you wanna look sharp. I... I'm telling you, these are the things you wanna
10:50 wear. They got clogs. They're made for everyday wear. They got the bamboo sheets. They got, pajamas. I mean, they've got it all, including your... Our favorite, which is the bubble cuddle. I live in my cozy earth BJ's
11:00 too. I've got my eye on that incredible incredible jogger set I told you about. Incredibly soft and comfy like my PJs, but built to last and take on whatever the day may throw my way. So you guys, I wanna encourage you

11:34 The point that... Then I go to Revelation chapter one, and I read that image that John the Revelator saw, and I'm like, how many of you saw that picture? Christ with
11:46 white, wooly hair, Christ with fire in his eyes, Christ with a a double edged sword protruding from his mouth, the... I mean, like, when when John the revelator saw the image of Christ,
11:57 in in his... In in Revelation on the All of Patmos, he said I I was so terrified that I fell at his feet as though I was dead.
Jesus as Sovereign Lord and Judge Over All
12:07 Yeah.
12:07 Then you think about the, Saul when he's on the road to Damascus and he has an encounter with Christ. He he what... He didn't see Jesus petting a lamb. He was so... The the the image was so
12:19 powerful that it was like looking at the sun in all of his
12:21 riches.... Him. Yeah.
12:22 It blinded him. It literally singed scales across his eyes. Acts chapter seventeen says that God will judge the world Yeah. By the one that he is... That that he is resurrected. So so Christ is gonna
12:34 judge the world. So I think what Jude is doing here, he's shifting the mindset. Did Jesus die for your sin? Absolutely. Is Jesus full of grace, mercy, and love? Yes. He absolutely is. Yeah. But Jesus is a
12:46 lion.
12:46 Yeah. And a judge. But that's why... That's why...
12:49 And he is sovereign. Yes.
12:50 That's why I wanted to bring this up. There's obviously two things that are connected with Jesus buying us. Now there's one aspect to us. We're
13:02 surrendering to him. But him buying us, I think, is an important point. And there's two wings of that. If you go back to the garden, one,
13:14 man chose to sin. Eve specifically said, oh, yeah. But then there's this spiritual force of evil here from the angelic world, Satan. He's influenced.
13:26 So when...
13:27 Which is part
13:28 of what he's talking about out of their boundary Yeah. Be... Even being here.
13:31 And look, I'm I'm simply ad nauseam going over this because it's hard for us to wrap our head around that when Jesus, Jesus became Lord of
13:43 all. And think Ephesians one. Lifted to the highest. Think Colossians one. He he is above all. Yeah. All men, he took care of the sin,
13:55 but also in the supernatural world, he's above all of them. He he conquered them. So he conquered those two things that led to our rebellion, not only from an earthly
14:08 man and woman standpoint, but also the supernatural world. And so I think you have to look at it... That in the back of your mind. Those two things are addressed. We tend to only focus
14:20 on man's sin Yeah. And not the spiritual forces.
14:23 In Hebrews where it says made a little lower by becoming lower?
14:27 Oh, oh, oh, we're we're gonna get to that. Look. Look. So so, that's a really good point. So just think about these two verses because you're gonna think, well, how does this square up?
14:40 Why would it say that he was made a little lower than angels? So that means he became a human.
14:46 Right.
14:46 So in essence, we're a little lower than the angels. Well, how come Paul in another verse in first Corinthians says, we'll judge angels? Right. I thought we were lower. I don't know that exact
14:58 verse off the top of my head. Is it first Corinthians six? Hold on. I might be right here and didn't even know it. I think I am. What are the odds of that? Yeah. Yeah. First Corinthians six, I was
15:10 literally fixed to read this. Now watch this. This... If I can just please help me, Lord, through the Holy Spirit, get through this off the top of my head. Amen. In verse
15:21 three, it says, do you not know of first Corinthians six that we will judge angels?
15:28 Yep.
15:29 Well... And then we have Hebrews two, and and chapter one says, Jesus is above all angels. Not sure the exact verse of that, but
15:42 Hebrews one... What... I mean, just pick a verse. Verse four. So Jesus, who's the image of the invisible God,
15:54 he became superior to the angels. Yep. And he goes through that. And then verse fourteen of chapter one says, are not all angels ministering spirits sent
16:06 to serve those who will inherit salvation? But then in chapter two, it says, we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels
16:18 now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death. So, verse eleven of chapter two, both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy
16:30 are of the same family. Yeah. Verse fourteen. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity. That being a human is
16:41 being made a little lower than the angels. The angels are sent here to serve. However, you say, well, how do you square that? Because since Jesus is superior... I'm just gonna say
16:53 this and we... You know, you can look up the verses to prove my point. When he was raised from the dead Yeah. He became superior to all angels. When
17:05 we surrender to the king post resurrection, we are we are now with the king. That's right. So right now, yes, we are made a
17:17 little lower than the angels. But post resurrection, we're gonna judge angels not because of who we are. It's who we're with.
17:25 That's it.
17:25 We're with the king.
17:26 Same family.
17:27 So it's it... Look. It's the now not yet conundrum that we've been talking about applied to us eventually judging the angels. And and that's the only explanation.
17:39 I mean, go look it up, chase the rabbit holes, do whatever you want to. You're gonna come to that conclusion. Go ahead.
17:44 And and you gotta keep in mind in John seventeen, because you think where where's all this going? John seventeen, Jesus says, the father, the time has come to now restore me with the glory that I had with you
17:56 before the world begins. So you say, what... How does Christ... So Christ... Philippians two, Christ condescends. He takes on the nature of a servant, but but you gotta remember the resurrection of Christ, the death, the
18:07 burial, and the resurrection, he's vindicated. And so he... The the the father restores glory to the son. So when you get to act seventeen, it says he's fixed a day on which he will
18:19 judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this, he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead. So the
18:31 resurrection of the man Jesus restored the the full glory with God, the... Restored me to the glory I have before the world began. Christ is gonna judge us, and I think what what Jude is getting at
18:42 here is we only wanna think about Jesus dying for our sins. It's very uncomfortable to to to to understand this truth about the scripture is that the the same Christ that hung on a cross is the
18:54 same Christ that will judge the world. The same Christ that that died for your sin is the same Christ that destroyed those in Exodus. Like, I... You you... We have to remember that when we're dealing with Christ,
19:06 he's not like your grandmother stirring hot chocolate with a spoon coming out of his mouth. It's a double edged sword coming out of his mouth. Like, he's dangerous.
19:14 I mean That was a pretty good line.
19:15 I mean, we we have to remember who we're talking about here. Yeah. We have to understand that we cannot take his grace lightly. Akashi is sovereign.
19:23 I apologize for you for
19:24 you go there. So I brought up a point that I missed when we first started into this, and I wanna go back and grab it because this is the perfect place to put it in. So what what did you just say? You remember when he
19:34 said... Jude said we are kept in Christ, kept by Christ, kept for Christ. We talked about that word kept. I looked up that Greek word. You know where it took me? John seventeen, where where Zach just
19:46 was. And listen to what he says here with what we're talking about in verse eleven. I will remain in the world no longer. It says Jesus talking to the father about us, about the disciples, but they are still in the
19:58 world, and I'm coming to you. Holy father, protect them by the power of your name. You know the Greek word the Greek word for kept? Guess what it is here?
20:08 Protect.
20:09 Protect. So that same idea is there. That's how we're kept, and that's this not yet now thing you're talking about.
20:16 Yeah. So back to the point I was making in first Corinthians six where he brought up angels. Now that's an interesting thing. They were suing each other, not acting in line with the truth of the gospel. And he starts
20:28 bringing up, we're gonna judge angels. You can't figure out some trivial thing going on in the church. Alright. That's where he started. Right. Then he gets to sex. Look. Verse nine of chapter six in Corinthians.
20:40 Do you not know the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, no other sexual immoral idolaters. There's these words we're using. Adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexual offenders, thieves, greedy,
20:50 drunkards, slanders, swimmers, willing to have the kingdom of God. That is what some of you were. So that... Luke fifteen, wallowing in a pigpen. Right. But you were washed. You were sanctified. You were justified in the
21:01 name... Look. Here we go again. In the name of the lord Jesus Christ. Well, look. There's our word for lord in the general sense. Guess where this goes? In
21:13 chapter six in verse eighteen, he says flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body. That's where Jude is gonna go. But verse nineteen says, do
21:25 you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you've received from God?
21:34 So, Jace, with the arrival of the cooler temps, it means that, opening day of duck season is not too far ahead of us. Right?
21:44 Well, it's the most exciting time of the year on planet Earth, and I actually have your last year's waterfowl duck stamp, which you're
21:56 supposed to sign now because you're leading me into temptation because I could just put this in my pocket.Show more
