Vitamin D: The Flu Prevention Key 0:01 The key things you want is hydration. You want water, but even better water are these teas. These teas are amazing in helping the symptoms of the flu. Go0:10 over those.0:10 1 of the best is elderberry tea, and elderberry tea has antiviral and antibacterial effects, which will help both flu many times and strep.0:24 Hey. Kyle Colbert here, and this is doctor Colbert's broadcast. And I'm here with my dad, doctor Don Colbert, and my mom, Mary. And today, we are talking about the flu.0:33 Yes. We all0:33 It's a bad flu season. It really is. I mean, it hit me. I don't know if it hit you. No.0:38 It hit us.0:39 Definitely. Yeah. Because0:40 we do this.0:41 Yes. We do this. And this0:43 has saved us.0:43 Absolutely. We've0:45 got some great information.0:46 First of all, let's explain what the flu is. It's a very contagious viral illness, that literally this virus, the influenza virus infects the nose and the throat
0:57 and usually goes into the lungs and can cause pneumonia. And the symptoms occur suddenly and people get headache, muscle aches, body aches, fever, chills,
1:09 sweats, nasal congestion, sore throat, severe fatigue, and many times cough and nausea and vomiting. But again, the first thing is knowing if you have
1:21 the flu. And so you can get a rapid 3 in 1 flu test from Amazon. It costs like 7 bucks. So you can get a bunch of them and you can know immediately if you have the It's
1:31 not 1 of those you have to stick way up your nose. Is it? Not way up. Okay. Oh, I hate those.
1:35 But that you can know within 15 minutes if she has the flu, and then you could take action right away. Because we have the meds
1:42 People think it's antibiotics is needed and that that is
1:46 It's not antibiotics. We have antivirals now that are amazing. 1 of the antivirals is Tamiflu, which is oseltamivir, is the generic and is dirt cheap.
1:57 Okay? Oseltamivir. It's 75 milligrams and it prevents the flu. You can take it for prevention. So if you have the flu in the family, you can put the other children on it, and you say, how can I get it? Well,
2:09 you can see you can do a telehealth with a doctor or a nurse practitioner, or you can go go the wellness company and you can buy their little medical kit or their little pharmacy kit that they sell, or you can
2:21 just ask your doctor. And many times, they'll give this to you. If the family has it, they'll give every family member the Tamiflu because it prevents the flu. I didn't
2:29 know you could take it as a preventative Yeah.
2:31 You can.
2:31 That you only take it when you get the first symptoms. No. You can. It
2:35 prevents the flu. And so if your family has it, it gets your Tamiflu.
2:38 Yeah. It keeps it from spreading to all the family, but you need to take it, like, in the first 24 hours. Don't you?
2:44 Well, you have to take within 48 hours of these symptoms. So if you're having that it come the flu comes on suddenly. Boom. All of a sudden, you have that headache, muscle aches, body aches. You have that
2:56 fever, the chills, the severe fatigue, severe fatigue.
3:00 This 1 was a horrible 1. I haven't had the flu in years.
3:02 And, again, those symptoms occur. You have 48 hours to get on that Tamiflu because it'll help to minimize the symptoms, and it'll shorten the course of it tremendously. I've had patients the next day on it. Literally,
3:14 they feel back to normal.
3:15 Especially if you go to public areas a lot. You know, for me, I went to work out at the gym, and I go every day to the gym. And so you're touching that equipment and, you know, there's 50 people that touch that equipment
3:25 that day.
3:25 This is so important. This is critical. Please, after the gym, I always go to the bathroom. And I wash my hands with soap and water for happy birthday twice
3:37 and you have Not me. I stick my fingers in my nose, ears.
3:40 You do that. You go immediately after working out and wash your hands. And also a great little, medicine that helps prevent the flu is called Cofix,
3:52 c o f I x r x. It's a nose spray. And you get on Amazon that costs about 25 bucks, but it helps prevent the flu. It contains betadine, which is iodine
4:04 1.25 percent. It contains some vitamin d 3 and it contains xylitol. The xylitol helps prevent the flu viruses from, attaching to the nasal cells
4:16 and infecting, and infecting you. So you just spray 1 spray in each nostril, usually twice a day or 3 times a day, and it helps prevent the flu. And you get it from Amazon. It costs about
4:28 25 dollars.
4:28 And they can make that claim. It helps prevent the Well,
4:31 it's antiviral. And I'll give you okay.
4:32 I can't say prevent the flu when you say antiviral.
4:34 Right. It's antiviral. It has antiviral effects. But what it does say, and it says the xylitol trap the viruses and prevents them from attaching to nasal cells. Okay. That's what it does.
4:45 And that's their description. Yes. Okay. Interesting. I wonder if xylitol gum could do something similar.
4:50 Well, again, see, the flu usually infects the nose and the
4:55 throat. Okay.
4:56 So yeah. So the the that's where it mainly affects, and then it moves on into the lungs. Interesting. Oh, that's why it's so important. Now, again, we have the flu vaccine, and you say, well, is the flu vaccine
5:07 effective? Well, it's recommended by the CDC for anyone 6 months of age and older. And if you're over 65, you gotta get them, higher dose flu vaccine, but it's only 40 to
5:19 50 percent effective in preventing the flu.
5:22 There's also that thimerosal, which is mercury based.
5:25 Yeah. Thimerosal is mercury based, but it's only in 4 percent of flu vaccines now. They Oh, really?
5:31 They've removed They
5:32 removed it from most flu vaccines. But if
5:35 you still get the multidose can be tricky. They can rename it. Exactly. They do that all the time. I would be curious to go with that if they've changed the wording.
5:42 Imirasol is in the multidose vaccines. So you wanna get the single dose thimerosal free vaccine because it's now it's only 4 percent of flu vaccine.
5:52 But you're saying even when you take that, it works 40 to 50 percent of the time.
5:55 So that was kind of pitiful.
5:57 And you're getting the effects of the flu vaccine, but you kind of feel the effects of the flu.
6:00 He had so much information on how to help people. I know that it just overwhelms all the information, but the beginning is vitamin d. You've gotta keep your vitamin d level up.
6:12 Optimized.
6:13 You've gotta do that.
6:14 80. You've gotta keep it in that range. I check I find that most of my patients when they're and that's what I do. I don't even get a flu vaccine. You say, what? You don't? But
6:22 that's been by the same time. I don't either.
6:24 I have found if I when I keep my vitamin d level between 50 and 80, I rarely ever get any any
6:31 Any thickness
6:32 at all? Wash my hand.
6:33 But see, you have the benefit of checking your blood work, you know, easily. You have your own nurses and everything. So you get that done. For the average person, it was to keep it between 50 and 80. How do they know
6:42 they're not going too high or they're not way too low without going to see a doctor?
6:46 Well, I check my vitamin d 3 level every 6 months. And so I just check mine. I'm about 55.
6:52 And any person could do that. Lab 4 for what? Like 50 bucks, I think is This is cheap.
6:56 Yeah. It's cheap. So, again, that's critical, and that's why I've got a new book coming out, Know Your Numbers.
Nutritional Powerhouses and Immune Boosters
7:01 It's 1 of them.
7:02 And that's 1 of the key numbers, 1 of the key 12 numbers. You know these numbers and check them every 12 months. You can prevent so many illnesses by knowing your numbers.
7:10 Just taking vitamin d every day though for everybody. Yes. 2000.
7:14 At least 2000.
7:15 At least 2000.
7:16 And then the in the wintertime doubling it to maybe
7:18 That's what I do.
7:19 4 to 5000.
7:20 I do 4000.
7:21 So when they see 2000 IU on the bottle or 1000 IU on the bottle, they need to take it twice a day.
7:25 Well, that's why our divine health hormone zone contains vitamin d 3. I found and I take I've been on that for years since I developed it when I wrote the hormone zone book about 10 years ago. It has 1000 units.
7:37 You take it twice a day. It also has the k 2 and has the dim, which are 3 of the most important nutrients you can take.
7:44 Now Immune Support has 2500 IUs per capsule. I know. And 5000 per serving.
7:49 Yes.
7:50 So that Okay. Is that too much?
7:52 Well, that's ideal for most people, just 1 a day. Now if they get the flu, they can double it to 1 twice a day. Okay. But it'll prevent the flu for many. Or if a person during the winter,
8:02 they take 1 twice a day. This will prevent the flu. But what you're saying is when you're optimized for vitamin d 3
8:08 Yes. And I don't know if everyone's different. That's why you need to check your numbers ideally. But if you can take 1 of the immune, support twice a day, you'll get 5000 units. You'll also get your zinc.
8:20 You'll get your elderberry and other nutrients that protect you from health
8:24 It said crank prevention.
8:26 Yeah. It's the key for preventing the flu.
8:28 Okay. Gotcha. Now we're not saying immune support prevents the flu, but we what you're saying is when you get these nutrients and you get them optimized, you get the numbers on it. Nice. Yeah. It helps you prevent the
8:36 flu. Exactly. Just to distinguish that clearly. So, you know
8:39 If someone takes it and then they get their flu, they said
8:42 Yeah. Well, the thing is is our viruses are so funny. They're not like bacteria. So they're almost like I've heard them described as little micromachines. Yeah. And so there's very
8:54 few nutrients that can actually disassemble. We have to think of them as we're disassembling a machine almost. Isn't that right? And so vitamin d is 1 of those Right. That can that's been studied to disassemble those
9:05 viruses. And is the other glutathione?
9:08 Well, glutathione has, it it supports the t cell immunity, which our t cells are natural killer cells, and our t cells are the ones that literally protect us from viruses. So
9:20 glutathione boost your t cell function, which in other words helps protect you against viruses. So we have nano glutathione, and that's what I take every day. I take
9:30 I do it.
9:30 I take big
9:31 sprays in my mouth twice a day and
9:32 it just
9:34 supports the body against viruses.
9:36 Me too.
9:37 So p cell immunity, which is our key immune function against viruses.
9:41 Well, you're saying that when you're the glutathione
9:43 guys Correct.
9:43 And so and glutathione so why does this boost glutathione more than anything
9:47 in glutathione? The nanotechnology. When you understand nanotechnology, it's literally a very tiny molecule that's absorbed so much better than regular glutathione.
9:59 Glutathione is a large molecule. But when you nano size it, you create tiny amounts of it that's literally absorbed. When you spray it in your mouth, studies have shown that up to 80 percent absorb in your mouth.
10:10 Oh, wow.
10:11 So it bypasses your gut. Okay. So you get those tremendous benefits of, glutathione without the problems with absorption because it's hard. Most glutathione supplements are hard to absorb by the gut.
10:23 And so, glutathione is just 1 factor. We've gotten ahead of everything. We're we're talking about meds. And she skimmed over to the supplements. The supplements I talked about last, but the meds, there's Zofluza is
10:35 another med used for the flu. Most people have never heard of Zofluza. I haven't
10:38 heard of
10:38 it. X o f l u z a. It comes in 40 and 80 milligrams. If you're less than 176 pounds, you take 40 milligrams 1 time a day. And if you're over 176 pounds, you take 80 milligrams once a
10:50 day. It's a great flu pill, but it's not generic. So it's expensive. So Tamiflu is much cheaper. And then there's Rilenza, not Replenza. Rilenza is an inhaler that's a
11:02 powder form that is great for the flu. We have to take it about 7 days, but it's contraindicated for asthmatics. Those are the main meds for the flu that And
11:10 you have to ask that leading up to the flu, not during the flu.
11:13 No. You take it during the
11:14 Oh, you take it. Okay.
11:15 Yeah. But the best 1 is by far the Tamiflu or old cell Tamiflu.
11:22 Good recommended Tamiflu forever.
11:23 I love Tamiflu. I love Tamivir. What about
11:26 the other 1? Did I thought you mentioned this a few weeks ago. What's, the the 1 during COVID that, you know, the
11:33 Ivermectin?
11:33 Ivermectin. Love it, but I can't talk about Ivermectin. Oh, you can't?
11:37 I can't. Oh, okay. Because there's, you'll be blacklisted. I won't get this on YouTube.
11:41 Okay. We'll just call it IVC. Can we talk can we just they'll know what we're talking about. Call it IVC. Tell me about IVC. Why do you want it IVC? Let's just call it IVC.
11:50 Ivermectin. I have good Call
11:51 it IVC.
11:52 Okay.
11:53 Just
11:53 well, just so we don't get this blacklisted. Okay. I'd rather avoid that, but if we do, we will not get this on YouTube.
Healing Soups, Teas, and Hydration Hacks
12:00 Okay. Well, hey. Let's But I love it. If you wanna know doctor Colbert's take on ivermectin, send us an email info at divine health dot com, and we'll email you, the information we've got. I'm curious to hear. I'm
12:12 sure you just piqued everyone's interest on going about because I've heard it personally you recommend IVC. So okay. Let's keep going. So what else do you have?
12:20 Okay. Then okay. So we've talked about the the flu vaccine's only 40 percent effective, so I personally don't do it. I take a nutritional and dietary approach to prevent the flu. We we have not had the flu for
12:32 many, many years, a decade or more over decades, really. I don't ever the best thing is diet in prevention of the flu. And the diet that I tell people the best thing for controlling symptoms is chicken
12:44 soup. Mhmm. Chicken and rice soup.
12:47 What is it about chicken soup or chicken noodle soup is equivalent? Right? We can
12:52 Well, the noodles, the gluten increases inflammation for a lot of people. And so the rice is better. Okay. The rice appear a lot of people's 1 of the top, 10 allergens and sensitivities
13:04 of foods is gluten. So instead of the gluten, the noodles, we recommend the rice. You can use white rice, basmati rice, jasmine rice, wild rice. You know, if you wanna go keto, you're not gonna be keto if you're
13:16 eating rice, you can use brown rice. The best, of course, is brown and wild, it's the lowest glycemic index. But what it does, it decreases those nasal secretions and thins them out. So it
13:27 it it helps prevent that excessive mucus. The hot soup, the salt breaks down and and decreases the viscosity of the mucus. When you add to it onions and
13:39 cilantro, these are high quercetin foods. Quercetin is that amazing bile flavonoid that actually, helps protect you from the side of from
13:51 the effects of the flu.
13:52 I saw you light up when you mentioned onions and cilantro. You love those.
13:57 I love them. And then I also put lime in there. It gives you your vitamins.
14:01 See. He's talking about my soup recipe.
14:03 Oh my. And we put
14:04 a garlic rotisserie chicken in there that we get from Kroger. And you have the most amazing soup that is so good for your immune system and got so many immune boosting herbs
14:16 and and nutrients in it that is just wonderful for you.
14:19 And I get the chicken broth that is the free range organic sodium. That low sodium, like, comes in the carton, and I put in 2 of those Mhmm. And a chicken
14:30 old rotisserie chicken. And onions.
14:33 Do you know what brand you throw? Do you know what brand it
14:36 is?
14:36 There's just soup brand? No. No.
14:38 No. No. No.
14:39 It's in the carton.
14:39 This is organic free reign.
14:41 He doesn't like the can. Don't let the cans. The carton.
14:44 Okay. Well, sure. The BPA. But the cartons will even have some BPA liner in them too. But we can't get away from everything.
14:50 Yeah. Exactly. Exactly.
14:52 Okay. So the chicken rice soup is your It's
14:57 1 of my favorite. Bone broth or vegetable soup. Soup. Oh, okay. Those are really good for your immune system. And then teas. The teas with having the flu, you've gotta stay hydrated. You've gotta
15:08 get your sleep. Those are 2 critical things, and you don't wanna overstress your body. Like, many people go and take saunas. That adds more stress. It dehydrates you. It actually make flu
15:20 worse. Really? Yes. And most I don't
15:22 really I think I've over saunaed.
15:24 Well, your body needs to rest, not stress. And saunas create a lot of stress for your body and it dehydrates you.
15:33 But in doses, it's healthy.
15:34 Well, when you don't have the flu. Okay. Now the key things you want is hydration. You want water, but even better water are these teas. These teas are amazing in helping symptoms of the flu. And so I wanna
15:46 go over these tea. Yeah. Let's go over this. 1 of the best is elderberry tea. And elderberry tea has antiviral and antibacterial effects, which will help both flu many times and strep.
15:58 And so elderberry tea is 1 of my favorites. And then you add Manuka honey. It has methylglyoxols in it. I know that's a a mouthful. But these methylglyoxols
16:10 in the manuka honey help with inflammation. They are anti inflammatory, and they help to thin those secretions, and they turn on the immune system and help to relieve sore throats too.
16:22 And so it coats the throat as low glycemic. It only has, like, 2.5 grams of sugar per half teaspoon. You don't need a lot of it, just a half teaspoon. So you can you put it in your elderberry tea, in
16:34 your echinacea tea, ginger tea, which has powerful anti inflammatory benefits. Green tea is also good. Lemon and lime teas are also good, as well as, peppermint tea.
16:46 So lemon and lime tea. When you say that, you're taking lemons, limes, squeezing it in water Yeah. Drinking it.
16:51 Or you can just get they have lemon and lime teas. You
16:54 can Tea bags.
16:55 Tea bags. Tea bags. Right. And lime. Okay.
16:56 And then add your manuka honey, a half teaspoon. And then the ginger is 1 of my favorite, but peppermint tea helps to thin the mucus and congestion. So peppermint tea works really good for a lot of people. And, again,
17:08 you've got the methylglyoxal and that manuka. That manuka is therapeutic honey, but don't overdo it on the manuka.
17:15 So what's unique about manuka honey versus regular honey?
17:19 Well, it has this methylglyoxal. This is a powerful, compound that literally helps your immune system. It's anti inflammatory. It soothes a sore throat and
17:31 it's antiviral. Okay? That actually works as an antiviral property. So it's a it's medicinal honey, which so many people haven't heard of, but you get that many times at health food stores, not in grocery stores. I
17:42 believe
17:42 it's the honey. It comes from Japan, doesn't it? Isn't it where it comes from? I believe it.
17:46 But I know that it definitely works.
17:48 Yeah. Okay. Interesting.
17:50 Now other things we do, like we talked about our soups, and then water is critical. You wanna drink plenty of water. What kind of water, though?
17:57 What what kind of this is a very confusing topic for a lot of people.Show more
