Radical Obedience: Trusting God's Plan 0:02 We wanna honor God because He sees everything.0:10 You were born with a plan and a purpose. He's the god of all things possible. He's the god of all0:22 miracles.0:52 Welcome to Grace Grace with Naina Michelle. I'm Michelle Humphreys, and I0:56 am Naina Keegan. Welcome to our broadcast today. You know, we as soon as I say the title, you're all gonna run and turn us off, don't. Because today, this is so important when we talk about1:08 radical obedience. And I know it's gonna make people like, oh, no. I'm gonna, you know, feel bad.1:13 Am I gonna have to1:14 do it? I'm, like, disobedient in some way or whatever. You know, but but it's so important because when we look over and over again at all the amazing stories in the Bible where, you know, there was just a1:26 radical obedience that was required for the miracle to happen. And, you know, if we just got in line with what God is asking us to do and just obey his word, we're1:38 gonna see some really amazing changes. And maybe some of you haven't even realized that you're praying and praying and praying, and maybe there's something that you need to change, or that God's been asking you to lay1:49 down, or to go do, or to get rid of, or to pray through it, or whatever. And you haven't been listening or obeying. And, and so, you know, maybe if this is gonna trigger that for you so that you can, like, see and and2:01 check yourself and and say, where have I been disobedient? And and then so you can go get your blessing and really switch some things around. So we're going to talk about that today. Yeah. Radical obedience.2:11 Well, and think about everyone in the Bible that we admire had radical obedience. I mean starting with Abraham. Mhmm. Right? Abraham was asked to leave everybody he knew2:24 and go to a land he's never heard of. Step. He took step 1 in that direction. Right? Sometimes it's just step 1 in the right direction and then taking the next step and the next2:36 step. He didn't know where he was going. The Bible says he did not know exactly what was gonna happen. He just believed God, and the Bible said he amaned God and was credited to him2:48 as righteousness. So that kind of radical obedience is what pleases God, and the Bible says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. So radical obedience3:00 is like don't just be a hearer of the word and say hail to the chief, Abraham, but do it. Do it too. You be you start your own story. Right? Whatever it is3:12 that God has told you to do, which lines up with the Bible, then you make sure that you radically obey because every time you radically obey, I promise you God is3:24 gonna come through, and that is where the fruit of God is, and that fruit will continue on its exponential. I'm telling you there is nothing like obeying God and3:36 and and absolutely doing what he says.3:39 Well, and it's not just always the big things that you're all thinking about, but because you're it's like training yourself to hear God's voice even in the small things like That's a good word. Put your shopping cart3:50 away, you know, go bring it back, or or maybe it's, you know, just little things. Make your bed. Maybe just don't get into gossip with people or or to, you know, really be silent and4:02 not complaining about things. Like, just just those little things that the Bible tells us all to do that we all do miserably fail at these things every day. And yet, these are things that God is asking us4:14 to be obedient in. And so it doesn't always have to be some giant thing. You know, I think about, Michelle and I just preached at a women's conference, recently, and and this was 1 of the subjects that we4:26 spoke on. And when I started looking into the Bible about radical obedience, I I kinda started off with the first miracle. Right? The first miracle in the Bible is the wedding where where Mary,4:37 Jesus's mother, asks him to to create some more wine because they were running out of wine at this wedding, which back in that day was a huge problem. Like, people were like4:48 Social faux pas.4:48 Yes. It was not a good thing. And Jesus was like, it's not my time. But but so here's what I wanted to point out. Jesus did what his mom had asked, and he but he didn't just5:01 wave his hand across some barrels and turn it into wine, which he could have done in a split second. Right? He could have just said, wine out of this water. And then nobody would have been the wiser. Nobody would have5:12 seen it. Nobody would have witnessed this miracle. He just could have, you know, that's it. We're done. But you know what? He went and told a whole bunch of people that, you know, that these weddings back then had, like,5:23 hundreds and hundreds of servants. They were huge weddings, and they were such a big deal. And he told these servants, they had these I did all this research, these 20 to 30 gallon stone5:34 jugs. Think about this. Big stone jugs that held 20 to 30 gallons of water and wine. And he told them to go fill these jugs up with water. Now that's not like you5:46 go get the hose. Right? It's like you are walking for miles sometimes to the water well or to the river or to the closest source of water. 20 to 30 gallon jugs of stone. Right?5:58 And it says in the bible that there were 6 of them. Huge. So it took a whole bunch of people that were probably grumbling and going, you know, why do we need to do this? This is you know, this is so6:10 far away, and we have to lug this thing around. Think about all that, right? But they did it. Okay. So then they bring back these heavy, heavy stone jugs full of water, and then Jesus prays over in front of6:22 everyone. And the water turns into wine. And so when you think about it, all of those people who are involved in that were obedient. They listened. They had to go do it, you know,6:34 even they didn't really understand what was gonna happen, but they were all partakers in Jesus' first miracle. They were all part of the miracle because they had to go step out in faith and do something and obey6:46 something that they didn't really wanna do. But then they were able to go and tell everyone, you wouldn't believe what happened. This was water. We filled it up ourselves. Like, this is no joke. And literally, when we6:57 dipped our cups in there, it was wine. And so they were part of this huge miracle. And over and over again in the Bible, we see that. Whether it's go to the river and dunk yourself 7 times, and it wasn't even the7:09 close river. Or it's march around the walls of Jericho. And, you know, over and over again, it was crazy things. At least it would have been to me, like, well, this is dumb. Why am I doing that? This is like, there's a7:19 close river. I'll just go to that 1. Doesn't that make more sense? But it's about believing and trusting and being obedient. Amen. That'll preach, sister. That's what we're doing.7:31 That's kind of the point.7:32 That is that is really good. Obedience, there's nothing like it. I mean, nothing is going to change your life more than radical obedience. Even if it's7:45 obedience and being disciplined, you know, like if the Lord is asking you to do something, to take something out of your life, to stop watching this, to do this7:57 instead of this, to break up with this person, Whatever it is no. I'm not talking about your wife or your husband that take that off the table. We're talking about biblical things. That's how God8:08 speaks to us through the word. Right? And it's gonna line up with the word when he says it. So when he tells us to do these things that are very hard and we don't do them, we're8:20 just walking around the the mountain 1 more time. We're just walking in the wilderness a little bit longer Until you decide that you're gonna go north into the promised land and obey God8:32 and and obey him radically, you're not gonna walk into the blessing. And so when we come back, we're gonna talk more about that.8:40 I'm excited to announce that we're having our biggest 3 in 1 sale ever with a limited edition product, a back in stock special, and a closeout deal you won't find anywhere else. Like, just really getting out there and and doing all that God's got in store for you and while he's calling you to do.9:50 And, you know, so many times in our lives, like, I think about times where I had to be radically obedient when it absolutely made no sense. And trust me, it it almost never does. Like, you know,10:02 aside from the small things. Like, the big things in life often don't make a lot of sense when he calls you to do something. And, Michelle knows that, my husband and I we live in a suburb of of Houston,10:14 but we used to live downtown, Houston. And, we bought a house and, my husband and I. And, it was it was, you know, kind of like a new house in this in in a in an area of Houston.10:27 And we were not there very long, like a year and a half. And, my husband was working in the medical center downtown, so we had to be there. And a a couple of things happened. You know, I I had10:38 suggested to my husband 1 day. He was he was working in in Houston for 27 years. And I suggested to him 1 day that I felt like the Lord wanted him to get a Florida medical license. And then I10:50 also told him that we needed to sell our house, which I think we're in maybe a year and a half. And it made no sense because he still was living down there. He said, I'm never gonna move to Florida. What are we what are11:02 we talking about here? Like, I'm I'm, you know, 27 years. But I just felt these things, like, and it would have been really weird to the11:09 still small voice of God, and and you were hearing it, and and so Yeah. And then what happened? And it11:15 didn't really make much sense. And so Yeah. But, you know, I I always laugh. My husband was radically obedient to me. Right. And he he you know, I know sometimes he knows how I roll enough to kind of go with it. And11:27 it did take him a long time, like, 9 months, I think, to get his Florida license, medical license. And we put our house on the market, and it sold. And we moved into a high rise in Houston. But we we, you11:39 know, we we just thought it was, like, a safer we didn't know what we were doing. Why is God having us sell our house? But then COVID came. And then and then all of this craziness happened at at11:50 hospitals and in the city, and and and crimes started going up. And then all of a sudden, where our house was, the prices of these houses, the market just fell. Like, you couldn't almost give these12:02 houses away. And so it was like we got out of that. And then, Rich, a long story short, he's decided, you know, that he was going to, like, change. He had a buddy that,12:15 does exactly what he does in Florida. And and my husband was kind of maybe thinking about slowing down a bit, like semi retiring. And so his friend in Florida was like, come and just work, like, a little bit, like, 1012:26 days a month, something like that, like, less time, have more time with your family. And so by the time he decided to switch jobs and go do that, we were had the last month of our12:37 apartment rent. We didn't have a house to sell. He already had his Florida license intact. And now he's still gets to do what he loves, but he's not, like, crazy busy all the time and on call all the time.12:49 Well, and and at the time, it just didn't make a lot of sense, but that's what I love about it, and that was such a step of faith. You know, trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own13:00 understanding. That's what the Bible says, and it says, in all of your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path. Amen. You'll make them straight. That's what it says. And that's exactly what happened with you13:11 guys is that you didn't understand it. You just took the 1 step and then the next step. And, I mean, that's crazy. Think about it. Here you've been in a a doctor in Houston for13:22 27 years in Houston, Texas. Why would you go and get a Florida license13:28 to be a13:29 doctor over there? Right? So that's amazing. And and you sold your house and then it it just all unfolded. I I love that story.13:38 Just even that the the rent the apartment that we leased, you know, the last month on the apartment was the the last month he had to work at he was working in Houston, And so we were done. We were out of the city13:50 without having to sell anything. No more no more rent still owe nothing. And so, you know, God will order your stuff. But did you ever notice, Michelle, he never tells you the big story, the big picture. Because14:02 we most of the times we would say, well, we're not doing that. I'm we're not moving. Like, we would have thought it would have been a move to Florida, but we didn't move. Right? Yeah. Like, we would have thought the14:10 wrong things. Yeah. And so he never shows you the whole thing.14:12 He started looking for a place up there. I mean I do that sometimes I jump the gun and that is exactly Yeah. You know the the opposite of what we should do, you know, when we start jumping ahead of God. So14:24 I think it's just so important to just like sit in God's presence. Yeah. Like put him first. Begin to praise and worship the Lord, and listen for that still small voice. And honestly,14:36 for me the best time in the when I hear from God, it's mostly when I'm reading the word in the morning. Yep. It's just like something jumps out to me.14:46 At first.14:46 And I and that to me is how he speaks to me. Mhmm. You know, sometimes it'll be an entire sermon. Like, there is no way I would have known where this was or where that14:58 was, but God is just speaking to me saying, go here. Go here. Mhmm. You know? And I and I it's just a still small voice. And sometimes I'm I'm reading the notes on the side and15:10 then following, you know. But when God tells us to do something, there's nothing like it. When you get in the river of God, when you get in above your head, and you are15:22 trusting God, and if you don't if you if he doesn't come through, you're gonna look crazy. And and and that's a little scary, you know. I I've said this before, like with, with15:33 college, my husband and I decided when we were in college, we lived in the Mary dorms, and we decided we were not going to be in college debt. And that's just unheard of and and almost foolish to15:45 think that you can just get out of college without any debt and whatever. But honestly, our friends, they would laugh at us at first, and then towards the end when we were seniors they were15:57 like, well we know God's gonna come through for you guys. You know I mean like Troy got 1 time he got a a a scholarship from the police jury. Like, what?16:08 Like, we didn't even know that scholarship existed. He he was nominated by his government, professor, and he got some random scholarship. 1 time, we got a16:20 little dink on our, fender bender. It was a little fender bender rather, and, they sent us some huge check. It was like enough for college. You know, I mean it16:32 was like so crazy, and we would get it anywhere before, but honestly we just would walk that out. We would trust in the Lord with all of our heart, and we would not lean on our under understanding, which was16:44 we don't have the money. And so and we're not going into debt, and we're not taking out these loans, and we're not gonna charge up our credit cards, and so we just trusted God. And honestly, by the end of it,16:56 we we really did. We walked out with 0 debt. That is just impossible, but it was like not trusting in ourselves, trusting in God in the crazy ways that he would come up with college17:08 money for for Troy and I was17:10 it was impossible. Faith stops at the question mark. You know, it it starts at the question mark. Think about it because we can't figure it out ourselves, and that's where the faith starts. Like, because you have no17:20 idea, no clue what's gonna happen. But we're gonna talk more about that when we come right back. Stay right there. You're watching Grace Grace with Nina and Michelle.17:26 I'm excited to announce that we're having our biggest 3 in 1 sale ever with a limited edition product, a back in stock special, and a closeout deal you won't find anywhere else. They're made with giza cotton and designer gusset.18:14 Queen, 17 98. King's only 19 98. So go to my pillow dot com or call the number on your screen. Use your promo code to get the best offers ever. Quantities are extremely limited, so18:25 order now.18:26 Welcome back to Grace Grace with Naina and Michelle in in the subject of radical obedience, our favorite. We all just wanna, you know, be more obedient, but I'm telling you, there's nothing better. And, you18:38 know, when we when we simply just step, take 1 step, take 1 step, and I know for all these years that we have been in the Bible and in the Word, you know, it's even obedient when you were saying starting your day in the18:50 Bible, because he says seek him first. Seek him first the kingdom of God, and then all things are added to it. And so that's how we get to know the really the character of God and how19:02 faithful he is and how, okay. He did this. He did that in my life, he did this, he was faithful here, I don't know how he did that, but he did it. And so he's never changing. God is never gonna19:14 change. He is always there. He is never gonna say, yeah, I'm out of this 1. This one's too hard. No. But he always, like, I think, wants us sometimes we see the radical19:25 immediate answer to prayer, but so many times, he's stretching us. Yes. Just just hang on to the hem of his garment. Take the next step. Sometimes I think19:36 he's dragging me Yeah. By the hem of his garment because I'm not kidding.19:41 You let19:41 me tell you. I'm just gonna confess something. Like, when it comes to my kids, that's where he really has to get me on radical obedience because I have a19:53 problem with wanting to jump in there and solve all their problems.19:56 I had this conversation today. I19:58 I promise. It is it's a it's a problem. And so, like, when my kids need something or want something, I want to get in there. I'm like, we we got to do this, we got to do that. It's like it's me, and they're20:10 they're grown. And and it's like, you know, we have got to let God. Now the Lord has told me that I have got to take my hands off. So radical obedience for me20:22 sometimes is to do absolutely nothing and to say absolutely nothing. And I'm like, but I have all this good advice. And I mean, I I I got20:32 the word. I've got all this years.20:34 I I I got this. I I I can tell them. I can help them. And and God has told me over and over again, don't say a word. Just wait. Let20:46 me do it. And it's like, that's radical obedience for me because I have to wait and let God intervene in their life. And and he does. He's faithful. He20:58 has been faithful. If I when I recount the times that he's faithful to me, I cry. Mhmm. When I Yep. Recount the times that he's been faithful to my children,21:10 I'm undone. Mhmm. I'm undone because I'm watching God be real in their life, and and that's what we want. Right? We wanna we want our kids to be in ministry. We want21:22 them to be on fire for God, and in order for them to get where they need to go and for God to dig down deep in them, sometimes we just have to take our hands off, and that's radical obedience.21:33 Well, we're also stepping on God's domain. Yes. Like,21:36 we're we're21:37 like God. We're trying like, a mini God in their lives instead of them going wholeheartedly trusting the Lord to do, you know, something in their life. And and and so many times when we have seen God break21:49 through in some way, or you're you're praying with your kids, or you're praying for something, and then something happens. And then, you know, it's also so important because I'm the first 1 who goes, that was God. Look21:59 what God did. And and and sometimes our kids don't recognize that yet. Mhmm. Or they think it's a coincidence or some you know, like, we have to always remember to give God the glory and to see where he that22:11 that was actually impossible or the time frame was impossible or how that all worked out is just an amazing thing. And, you know, I I I have this little grandson who's 4 who's22:23 absolutely hilarious. And He is so funny. He is. And he's he just loves the Lord. And he knows he tells me the other day, that that he is, he's22:35 he's gonna be a pastor. He said he's that's what he's gonna be when he grows up. Well, we've22:39 been calling him Rev Kev, so we call those things which are not, now they're gonna be.22:43 It was funny because he was spelling it in the car. He goes, no, maybe I'm gonna be a p a s. He was like sounding it.22:49 Oh, good.22:49 And he told me He's 4. He was gonna be a pastor. And I said, okay. And he takes these little golf lessons, and he loves his golf. And he goes, but you know, pastors only have to work on Sundays at the church.23:01 And he said, so the rest of the time, I'm gonna be a golf pro. And he said, and I'm also gonna be a veterinarian, but my animals won't be very sick because I'm just gonna pray for them. And so, so that's his whole plan.23:13 But, you know, it's kinda funny because I see he told me he has so many bible stories in his body that he has to stack them up so they all fit. And so when I think about he will he will,23:25 he will, like, debate me on a bible story. You know, maybe this was him. And do you know who who who was coming against Nehemiah? And he's, you know, and he knows all these things. And I think about him, his23:37 radical obedience to know what the word says. And he is that's it. This is what the Bible says, and he knows that. And when we think about and and next time we film, we're23:49 gonna talk about childlike faith. But, you know, we think about that. Like, how God works and has, tells us the childlike faith so we can witness that in a child and just how how24:01 seemingly easy it is for them to just trust. They just believe. Only believe.24:06 I love that. I I that's why I always love having kids in my house. It's like little kids have the most febity and give me a Sunday school class with children in it all day24:18 long. I will take that class because if you want something great to happen, pray with some kids. That's an agreement that that, you know, they truly believe that24:29 Jesus is gonna do what he said, and and that's why I love I love teaching little kids Sunday school. So, that's that's my favorite.24:40 Kevin was upset because he was trying to part my pool. He he he, that's my grandson's name, Kevin. He he was trying to part my swimming pool, and he said the prayer, and he said the whole thing, and he was just standing24:51 there, and he was waiting for it to to part. And he's like, but Mimi, it didn't work, and I said the same prayer, and that, that, that Moses said. And I said, well, buddy, I said, there's no enemies chasing you. I said25:03 You gotta wait for that. You gotta wait for that.25:05 But he, you know, so25:06 Gotta have25:06 he just truly believed that water was just gonna pop.25:09 Have some Egyptians coming after you. It's the cause of most wars. But again, evidence shows differently. It shows26:26 that out of 1763 documented wars, only a hundred and 23 were due to religion. That's between 6 and 7 percent. When you take out Islam, that only leaves 326:38 percent of all wars that could be attributed to religion.26:46 Does science disprove God?
