Excellence in a Broken World 0:02 We wanna honor God because He sees everything.0:10 You were born with a plan and a purpose. He's the god of all things possible. He's the god of all0:22 miracles.0:52 Welcome to Grace Grace with Naina Michelle. I'm Michelle Humphreys.0:56 I am Naina Keegan. Welcome to our broadcast today. Today, we're gonna be talking about a spirit of excellence, and that's what the bible calls it. That's what they that's what it's it says1:08 that we should operate under a spirit of excellence. And so we're gonna dive in and figure out what that means.1:15 And I love the thought of that, you know, when it talks about in Daniel Yes. How Daniel it's it describes him. It says in Daniel 6 3, if you're following along in your1:27 Bible, it says, he became distinguished above all the other officials and satraps because an excellent spirit was in him. His faithfulness,1:38 wisdom, and integrity earned him favor. And so when you have a spirit of excellence, you're going to have the favor of the lord, because you're you're you're doing1:50 what the lord wants you to do. You know, years ago, the Lord spoke to me and said, my kingdom is excellent. Yes. And and so How can2:01 it not be? Think about that.2:03 Exactly. And then he told me that I needed to be excellent in doing something that he wanted me to do. And so it was just like, I've never forgotten it.2:13 You know? The scripture you just said, I love even it goes on to say that and the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.2:22 Mhmm.2:22 And so if you have a spirit of excellence, it doesn't matter who has the better resume, or who has all the degrees, or who has whatever. God can just move, rearrange, and Amen. Park you2:34 right where he wants you to be because you have a spirit of excellence. And God honors that, and it's that's so amazing. You know, I don't know what's going on in the world today, but how many times,2:46 Michelle, do we say, like, every nothing works. Everything's broken. Nobody does what they say they're gonna do. Like, you have to you know, if if you think you've taken care of2:58 something2:59 call some like a company. Yes. At first, you talk to a robot.3:04 5 times, and then they always drop the call.3:07 Speak to a person. Hang on. They'd like to speak to a representative. Then you speak to the representative, and the representative transfers you. And then you tell the whole story and they transfer you.3:19 Yeah. And again.3:20 It's ridiculous. And, you know, and so it's gotten to the point now where my husband and I are absolutely shocked in amazement if something works. And that shouldn't be this way.3:32 Like, I I always call it the broken shingle world. You know how, like, you put in the old days, you would put hang your shingle out, which is, like, your sign that you're open for business. And I always just think it's,3:43 like, those are just broken and falling off. Like there's nobody open for business. There's nobody working. We actually went to a big home improvement store the other day. Wasn't I'm not gonna name names.3:55 And3:56 Although you would like to.3:57 They have the vest on. They're walking around, you know, like ready to help you. And yet we asked 2, not 1, 2, where something was. I don't know. That's what I got.4:08 Oh, wait. 2 people said.4:09 2 people. I don't know. Maybe it's over there. I don't know.4:12 And it's And that's it. Okay. They're finished.4:14 There you go. And then we had to walk up to the desk to return something. There was 1 person at the desk. They looked up, saw us, and then they left. They didn't come talk to us. They just4:26 left. And it's like, I guess they're on lunch break. I don't know. But you know, when I see, when I see things like that, because I, you know, I guess, I guess, you know, I worked in all kinds of jobs growing up, you4:36 know, from, from clothing and fashion and, and restaurants and and all of that, you know, I always thought, like, you know, you you serve the Lord when you do things to the best of your4:48 ability. Like, you you don't mess around. I was I had, like, a fear of getting fired or not doing the best. Like, I would worry about it. I wanted you know, we at a clothing store, we had to sell and5:00 make a quota and all these kind of things. It's like, so what happened? Why why is it that nobody seems to care and people are just it's it's just like, I don't know.5:12 Do you ever notice that? Like, everywhere. Oh my goodness. From airports to to even on planes. We grew5:18 up in the eighties. And, you know, the eighties, they they would say quotes that I believed personally. They're not biblical. They're not biblical. They're not right.5:29 With it. But we did.5:30 We rolled with it. Like, for example, a winner never quits and a quitter never wins. Yeah. You know why? That's true.5:36 It is true. And how are you gonna5:38 win if you quit? Exactly. What do you have any quotes from like your childhood? Oh. You know?5:44 I have a lot, but none I could speak on TV right now. So there's that. You know.5:49 Yeah. I mean a secret to your success is hidden in your daily routine. You know things that, you know, sure. 1 thing my5:55 grandma used to say to me all the time was just to keep still, be still. Because a lot of that is like when you want to be upset with the world and the way things are going, just be still. And6:07 but I always think, as a result of what we kind of see happening all over the world right now, and you know, it's even hard to even even at a really nice restaurant, you know, the order's wrong,6:19 You know, they they don't they don't even, like, come fill your I don't know. Something sometimes they just say6:25 just went to a restaurant. That exact thing happened. And I I mean, it was like I picked the you know, we eat gluten free. I picked the 1 thing that I thought I could eat.6:37 And he's like, nope. That they decided to change the recipe today.6:42 Or they're out of it.6:44 Well, it just sounds gross now. They changed the sauce. And so it just is so disappointing.6:50 Well well, it was the other day, we were at a restaurant, and I I I had to order 3 different things. And then I go, pretty much just tell me what you do have. Since you're out of everything, what are we down to?7:00 You're like, go in the back. Get out this. Do you have this? You pretty much write your own recipe.7:07 Can I just go back there and cook it? You know, let me just say that, you know. But, you know, I know we're laughing at all this stuff, but it is pretty serious. Like, if you are working anywhere and you're7:19 sloughing off at the job, if you're scrolling and you're, you know, you know, taking extra long breaks, if you're showing up late, if you're leaving early, you know, that is not a spirit of excellence. And I'm7:31 here to tell you right now, you're not gonna get promoted. That's the thing. I don't care, you're not gonna see God's glory on your life if you're not serving him. The Bible says to do all7:43 things as if you're working for the Lord. Be like he's your boss. And imagine if we all did that, if we all just aimed to please the Lord in everything we do. Exactly.7:54 Imagine what we could accomplish. And imagine how God could cause you to skip over so many other people that that might look better on paper. But but because you have a spirit of8:06 excellence, God can use you so powerfully and so incredibly. And and we have to just be so cognizant of this. Like, how Yeah. How are you treating others? You know, are you a8:18 Christian, you know, in private or just out in public? Like what what are8:22 they And are you how are you treating others that can't do 1 thing for you?8:26 Exactly. That's so key. That's so so true.8:29 It is. How do you treat your your waiters, your waitresses? How do you treat anyone? You know? Are you8:36 road region? We are talking about a spirit of excellence, and I love the story of Joseph.9:57 Yes.9:58 Don't you? I mean, Joseph was a man sold into slavery by his own brothers.10:04 Yes.10:05 And yet he still did not whine and complain about it. That to me is part of having a spirit of excellence is that you're not you're not complaining. Like the10:17 Bible says, go about everything without arguing or complaining. And arguing for him, you know, he went from 1 thing to the other. So he sold10:29 into slavery. Potiphar buys him. Potiphar's wife accuses him of of busting a move. And, you10:40 know, and she she's completely lying, and he just ran out, and she got his coat. And so it was like,10:51 like, try to use it as evidence.10:52 He did it.10:53 Mhmm. But when he was thrown into prison because of false accusations, he did not whine and complain. He was excellent in prison. I I I'm so amazed at that.11:04 And then in Genesis 41 38, it says, Pharaoh recognized Joseph's wisdom11:13 and11:13 the spirit of God in him. Now there came a day when Joseph's day came and he was able to interpret a dream, and he he ended up being ruler,11:25 you know, a ruler, a governor over the entire land. And, I mean, he saved his brothers and his father from famine. I mean think about that. That's what a spirit of excellence11:37 will do.11:37 It is. It can save your family. It can save a nation.11:41 It can save it's exponential. You know? And so just even what does that mean? What is excellence broken down? It's an attitude of outstanding character, integrity,11:53 diligence that always points to God. Don't you love that? And if you have to ask whether you're doing something wrong, then you probably shouldn't do it. Like if it's even a question, like if12:05 you think, yeah, I don't know. That's kind of iffy or, you know, should I even go to that movie? Should I watch this? Should I, you know, do this or that? You know, if you even have to ask and and you know what, what's12:17 what's right for you or what God is is calling you to, you know, maybe that's different for someone else. But you have to obey what God's, you know, telling you to do. And so if you even have to ask that, you're12:28 probably, you know, you're probably not even, you know, you're probably not even supposed to question. You shouldn't be going and doing whatever you you are questioning in the first place. You know, if if the Bible says12:39 in in Hebrews 10 36, don't give up. God will reward you at the right time if you trust him. And so it's all about him. You keep your, you know, your head down, you keep doing12:51 what you know to do, you work super hard, you learn all you can do, go the extra mile. You know, don't don't just do the bare minimum to get by. You know, you know, just maybe you show up at13:03 the office a few minutes earlier, you know, than than you're supposed to. And, you know, maybe you're you're blessing other people. Maybe, you know, somebody's gonna see you that few minutes earlier with your Bible in13:14 the office. Pray over your office. Pray over your coworkers. See how you can be used in a blessing in that way as well. And Dress for success. Make God popular wherever you13:25 are. You know, let let his favor shine through you and let him use you where you are as well too. And and that can cause people to notice you. There's something different about you. What13:37 is it? And let it be Jesus. And let that be13:41 what purpose you And and, you know, people are going to be drawn to you with a spirit of excellence. Yes. You know? That's a fact.13:51 Yes. Absolutely.13:52 And if you're,13:53 you know13:53 It's contagious.13:54 If if you're all grungy and you don't care and, you know, think about that.13:59 Yeah.13:59 It's just not appealing to others. And the Bible says that we carry a fragrance with us, and it does say that for it says that we14:11 stink to those who are perishing. It's a stench in the nostrils. Forgot your children. Exactly. But it is, it's a fragrance to those who14:23 either want Jesus or are are are saved. You know, because don't you know, like, you can almost, like, connect with somebody almost instantly that is also born14:35 again.14:35 Well, you know, that's so fruit.14:37 And I think part of that is that spirit of excellence14:41 and There's witness. Yeah. You know? He does. And you can recognize them, you can see it, and, you know, just like you and I, we we were sitting next to just randomly sat down at an airport and next to a pastor14:53 and his wife and started talking the whole time about the Lord. And, you know, you know, if, you know, God will move mountains on your behalf and he can cause you to he can rearrange15:05 things and cause you to be at the right place at the right time and give you divine appointments and divine anointings to be able to speak his word and do his his will everywhere that you go. Yeah. But15:17 you know what's key to that is if you start your day, you know, in prayer, which is part of having a spirit of excellence, because if we want to be ambassadors for Christ, we have to know Christ. Not just of him, know15:29 him. So get in the word, seek him, spend time with him, have a relationship with him, and then ask him, okay, what are we doing today together? Where would you have me go? Where, you know, how15:41 can you use me? Take out my agenda and anything I had planned for today, shred it and and and give me your plan and and order my steps. And have you ever noticed sometimes where, you know, God might15:52 call you or, you know, you're going you think you're gonna go to 1 grocery store or something, and then all of15:57 a sudden you pivot.15:58 And you're going to another store, or you're doing something But the Lord16:01 will speak it16:01 Yeah.16:02 In your spirit. This is where you need to go.16:04 And then all of a sudden, there's somebody there that that you're gonna have an opportunity to pray for or something's gonna happen there or God will give you something to speak to somebody and he'll use you in that way.16:15 And our lives, as part of a spirit of excellence, should be naturally supernatural. Amen. Every day. We shouldn't be ordinary because God's not ordinary and we work for him. And16:26 so we want to be his ambassadors every day and, you know, we don't have to know the who, what, when, where, why, and how. We just need to know the 1 who does know all of that. Amen.16:38 And so you don't have to know how he's gonna promote you or how he's gonna use you or any of that. Just say yes. Just amen him in your in your time with him.16:46 Amen. I mean and you think about, like, going back to Joseph. It took years. Yeah. He was there for years. This was not some little thing. No. You know, it didn't16:58 happen in a week.16:59 It was like 14 years.17:00 Yeah. I mean, it it's crazy how long it took. So remember that Yeah. That a spirit of excellence also requires perseverance. Yes. And and the Bible17:12 says, if you if you shrink back, the Lord will not be pleased with you. So when you're pressing in, you can get weary in well doing.17:21 Yes.17:21 And so remember, it can be difficult, yes, because you're taking a higher road. But just like Joseph, he didn't whine. He didn't complain. He just kept being excellent regardless of17:33 being in prison, being falsely accused, and yet God raised him up, and that's what he's gonna do for you. I mean, isn't that just just so amazing that that's what we can have? Like, just think about that.18:33 Right? You know, God just thinks of everything. And so if you don't know what excellence looks like for you and what you're doing maybe you're a stay at home mom. You know, I mean just ask18:44 him, just get in the presence. He knows you're tired, he knows you're weary, but you know what he knows our hearts and that we want to do better and God can give you supernatural rest, and he can redeem the time.18:57 And so your supernatural excellence might might just be, you know, I'm gonna put this aside for a minute and and read the Bible with my children.19:04 Exactly. Mhmm. And and you think, you know, the culture had would have us believe that we are 100 percent supposed to be these big19:16 career people, you know, kids in the daycare and whatever, and that's okay if if that's what you need. But when you're a when you're a when you're a stay at19:27 home mom, sometimes you feel ministry. It it is a ministry. And I remember years ago, I my kids were just, like, fighting, and19:39 I was, home alone with them. And I was not a great referee, and I think it was a 3. I have 3 kids. I think they were all in a fight. I mean, they were just fighting right in front of me. And I was19:51 cleaning some dishes, and I just I was just like, I've I've had it. I I was tired. I got down on my knees with my hands in the suds. I was cleaning a20:03 pot. And I I was like, god, I thought I was gonna do something great for you, you know, and I I don't even know how to referee these kids. And the Lord said, this is great.20:15 This is what you're supposed to be doing. It's so important. It's not excellence doesn't mean that everything's all tidy and perfect. That's not excellence.20:27 That can be striving. Yes. Excellence is doing the will of God to me. And I mean we do our best, right, and we forget the rest. God is not a, harsh task master.20:39 No. And and also it's just it's as simple as doing it right the first time, or not having to ask somebody again and again and again to get something done20:51 that that, you know, was promised to be done. Right? So so, you know, just just doing it right and doing it the first time when somebody asks you and don't make people have to come back to you and say where's21:03 that, where's that report, or where's the email, whatever, and just ask ask the Lord to help you with that so that you can say okay I'm not gonna I'm gonna put my full effort into this, I'm gonna do21:15 the best I can the first time. It's not gonna come back to me saying, hey, make all these revisions, or it seems like it was haphazard that you did it last minute at the end of the day because you wanted to get get out21:26 and meet your friends, or or you had something else you had to do. No. Do things with a spirit of excellence. Do it right the first time. Treat others the way you would want to be treated, and that's part of21:38 a spirit of excellence. So if you were the boss of a company, how would you expect to for for, how would you expect for the employees to work? Because you're paying them, and21:49 you're hiring them for a specific job that they need to do with a spirit of excellence so that the whole company can work together and and for a united goal. And so, you22:01 know, if you think about it from someone else's perspective, from who's hired you, who you're taking your orders from, and look at it from their standpoint, what would they what would make22:13 them happy? What would what would I do in a work environment that would please the people who have employed me? And I want to work with diligence, and I want to be vigilant, and I want to, you know, make sure I've22:25 done it to the best of my ability. Because that's all that anybody asks is you just do your best and really do your best. Don't say you did it and do it, you know, just halfway because that's not22:37 gonna work because it's it's all gotta work together and and and do what you would expect others to do if you hire them. And and that's a it's a good key there.22:47 Yeah. And I I love how, like, you know, King Solomon, you know, he didn't live a perfect life, we know that. But when he came into power,22:59 he got down and he asked God for wisdom. Mhmm. Right? Which that prayer brought excellence. I mean, think about all the things he built.23:11 Mhmm. I mean, he asked for wisdom for leadership, which God has called us all to be leaders of some sort, whether you're leaders of a family or23:22 leaders on the job or, you know, who knows what you might be the leader of. But God wants you to ask him for wisdom. He wants you to ask him how23:34 to, be excellent. Like, show me, Lord, how can I be more excellent in what I'm doing? Yes.23:41 You know,23:41 whatever it is. The Bible says whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.23:47 And all diligence. All your might. Your might. Yeah. And you know what? I always think to say what you mean and mean what you say, and let people know that they can count on you, that you are23:58 a person of your word, and that if you said it, you're gonna do it. And that, that is so important so that, you know, no matter what it is, if if you say what you mean and mean what you say. And and don't24:10 let people say, yeah, they they just never follow through. Don't be that person.24:14 You know, be the person that God's called you to be with a spirit of excellence. And so with that, we're gonna pray. Alright. Let's pray that God is going to give us a spirit of excellence.24:27 So I want you to hold your hands up because we're gonna receive it right now. Father, in the name of Jesus, you said that we could ask you anything,24:39 Lord, according to your will and it shall be done. So right now, we ask you to receive a spirit of excellence, father, that you would give us a spirit24:51 of wisdom and and, and excellence, lord, that that from this day forward, that we would see a change in how we in how we do anything, lord,25:03 how we do everything, lord, that that we would move forward in our in our individual ministries with excellence, so we would work with excellence, so we would deal25:14 in our family relationships with excellence, and we ask you this.
