“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Have you been to a movie or stage play where you got so caught up in the drama you had to take a moment when it ended to remember it wasn’t real? The world’s stage is set for the drama of the ages; only this one won’t be make-believe. But too many of us today are troubled and jittery. We often don’t have steadfast hope in this shaky world. God doesn’t want us to be upset or dismayed. If you’re troubled by what’s happening today, Paul wants you to find rest when he states, “and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who do not know God...” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8). We don’t know when Jesus will return for His church. But God wants us to have a settled faith, remaining calm in the face of unrest and turmoil. For that, we need a bulldog grip on the Word of God. May the Holy Spirit write hope-filled words from His truth on your heart today.
Dear Lord, help me to surrender my fear to you today. I know that You have overcome this world, so I don’t need to fret about what will happen. You see everything, and you are in complete control. So help me put more trust in You and let my faith be an example to others. In Jesus' name, amen.
